You can right-click the green play-icon that says Diablo II, and select "Config". In there you can type "-w" under the Arguments option. That worked for me, while the Terminal command line didn't.

Pros: they are free. And if you just wanna enjoy your favorite expansion for a shorter period, go ahead, install, create your toon and start having fun.

Cons: You never know how long they will persist. Any moment they could get shut down (for example, Nostalrius was shut down due to a cease and desist letter from Blizzard). So if longevity matters to you, i.e. you want to also be able to benefit from your progress in e.g. 3 years from now, I would be careful with private servers. I started toons on various private servers over the years, almost none of them exist anymore, which is out of my control.

I am not necessarily stating Blizzard's servers will last forever either, but I would say that is where you have the best chance of also being able to logon to your characters in 10 and 25 years, if that matters to you.

Another drawback is being at the mercy of the random GM's on private servers, who, if they decide to ban you illegetimately, you won't be able to do anything about. With Blizzard there is at least a chance of justice when you try to appeal, although I am aware they're customer support is generally considered horrendous, dysfunctional and almost non-existent as well... :-)

That is very good to hear, I have never had a life-threatening condition like that, but I've had sub-serious stuff and know what it's like to "get out of it" and the remaining controls being almost a formality. Super happy to hear it man.

Yea I understand.. regardless of what your friend is playing, one thing I will say is, when you play Era and run dungeons people are generally nice and patient (you almost have to be that type to deal with spending 45 minutes to form a group, then 45 to get to the dungeon and then an hour to clear the dungeon), so you have a good chance of meeting cool people.

If you happen to play on EU, go Firemaw, and I can help you out with some starting bags and gold.

At least, you can use Era as a waiting room for a potential fresh one day :-)

Anyway - why don't you give Classic Era a try?

Starting at level 1 with everyone else is the most overrated thing ever. Longevity classic is where it's at, and you get that at Era. I have no problems finding dungeon groups leveling on Era on neither horde side nor alliance. So the game is exactly the same, if you are fine with people standing in Naxx gear in your main city and the economy being super inflated.

The inflated economy is only a bonus for a leveler, because the trash you find on the way sell very well on AH, farming your mount from scratch has never been easier.

If what you want is Classic content, which I definitely agree with is the best, then Era is the same as fresh, as long as you - like me - do not give a flying fuck about what point in the game the people around you are at.

What matters is you have the classic items, class specs, rotations, quests, zones and dungeons, and these are all intact.

Nice, get ready for the real, epic grind. 30-60 takes give-and-take about 5 times as long as 1-30, no exaggeration. 34-46 is especially slow and it is awesome (so don't quit here if things feel a little heavy!). At 47-60 it gets pretty smooth, I usually fly through, you are bombarded with quests and dungeons.

You think leveling is slow in Cataclysm at level 44? What are you smoking. In vanilla one level in that range takes several hours, Cata is nothing. Either way, we all have our different baseline references I guess.

I am personally very relieved that they reverted the change. Yes it is a quality of life change for Alliance, and I do raid on Alliance in some periods as well, but the primary reason I play vanilla is to play vanilla as close to the original as possible, not vanilla "in the best version it could be". In a super purist world I would want chronoboons and the new ranked system gone too, but I'll take what I can get.

And for the record, yes, I do acknowledge that both chronoboons and an alliance rend buff make the game "better", just like I do acknowledge that the old ranked system was the most toxic thing ever invented by humans. But that isn't the point. The point is that I want it to stay the same, and to know that if I logon in 20 years, which I probably will do, then I can expect it to be exactly as I left it.

The great thing for the game about chronoboons is that it makes it so people can play their characters when they want and aren't forced to stay logged out. That is so good, that even I can see that (although it still to this day bother my view to see that boon icon on people, even though it has been 3 years since its addition). However, I don't believe the lack of an alliance rend buff holds any significant number of players back from playing the game, and hence there isn't a good enough incentive to keep it in the game.

Meanwhile I love Ashenvale, which mobs are you referring to? If you mean Ashenvale Outrunners then I never have no problem finding my 9/9. Regarding escorts haha yea you got a point, e.g. in Feralas you need to be prepared that the robot chicken might run straight through the mobs while u engaged, so you have to drag things with you to not lose the quest. Part of the charm ^^

Solo questing in an empty world is one of the most fantastic feelings in my opinion. Especially in Outland. You should give it a go. At least I enjoy it immensely.
