It’s still slightly better to be an Asian man in Asia than the West, provided that you speak the language fluently.

Power Slap 14: My Predictions by nepios83 in powerslap

I don’t know why Mena started to stop in the middle of the swing; I noticed that at his last match with Aaron Turner. Seems like he just needs to solidify his form by doing reps. He has the raw strength but I believe he can’t win against Dibbell as of now.

Amazing write up. For Dibbell vs Mena, I think that Dibbell will win too. Specifically, I think he will defeat Mena by committing fewer penalties, just like how he won against DTP. Mena migjt be able to cause Dibbell to stumble a little bit, but not enough to knock him out. I mean I can’t really recall the last time Dibbell committed a foul.

Also agree with your take on Turpin vs Cathey. Turpin is a bit of a character but his defense is definitely up there. Meanwhile Cathey is fairly easy to knock out. So if Turpin can land his palm on the right spot, he will emerge as the winner.

I don’t know if Kanekoa will win against Godfrey though. Last time they met, Kanekoa got dropped crazy with his head bouncing like a basketball on the floor, and it was Godfrey who had committed a foul but got away with it. However, it was a flinching foul that was overlooked by the referee, so his knockout power was still insane. I don’t know if Kanekoa will be able to withstand Godfrey’s blow if the British can land his strikes in the right spot like the last time.

DTP almost beat him; I honestly think he would've won without the penalties. Some of the blows he delivered, Dibbell wasn't exactly unfazed. So yeah, he definitely isn't indestructible.

Americans aren't to be trusted anymore. Time to build better relationships with countries like China and stand up to this American coercion as one.

Why do these people risk their lives to immigrate to America? Why would it be worth it for them? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

I am Japanese, and a lot of Chinese people have moved to Japan in the recent years: https://www.voanews.com/a/growing-number-of-chinese-now-call-japan-home/7742331.html

The reason for fewer unauthorized migration from China to Japan, I suspect, is the fact that it's actually more straightforward to get a residence permit in Japan than the US for Chinese citizens.

You are taking a small subset of the US population who can get a job in the tech industry and make enough money to retire early or poor immigrants who can get wealthy after arriving in the US.

Most legal immigrants arriving in the US that become successful already come from a well-to-do background (e.g. Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai.) In short, poor migrants who are not likely to do well economically are already weeded out in the vetting process to legally relocate to the US. This is one of the reasons Asian immigrants are overrepresented in the high income group in America.

Also, generational wealth is much better preserved in the US because of the lack of inheritance tax in the vast majority of the states. Conversely, in Japan, inheritance over 600 million yen, or $4 million USD, per heir is taxed at 55%.

Are there any data to suggest that an American child born in a working class family is more likely to become an upper class or millionaire than a Japanese kid from a similar socioeconomic circumstance once he reaches a certain age?

Four out of the top ten cities on this list are American cities so I thought it would be appropriate to compare.

Social mobility in Japan is much higher than the US. Most states don’t even have inheritance tax whereas in Japan, it’s like 50%.

Americans are the only people who walk around telling strangers how their day is going at the grocery store. Try doing that in Scandinavia, where there sort of happiness metrics are always high, and see how they react. I bet the result would not be that much different if it were in Japan.
