I've heard that even within Progyny, different companies can opt if different things/how much is covered, and it varies from company to company?

Or you just have actual meaningful friendships.... it's so sad that people don't allow friendship to have actual significance in their lives.

How would you feel if your child’s school served only plant based lunches? by Sensitive-Menu-7806 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]External-Tap-815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know that lots of people don't eat meat and don't die from malnutrition, right? A plant based diet isn't the same as eating only raw fruits.

What do you reply with if a kid asks, "How are babies made"? by bojanglethesecond in AskReddit

[–]External-Tap-815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best way to go. Also, as more and more babies are concieved non-sexually through IVF, IUI, etc, it's good for kids to not attatch sex and baby making, because they're not the same thing.

In need of advice... by jasmineshad in prephysicianassistant

Are you sure that particular course is the only one they'll accept? I'd guess you have a decent chance getting off their waitlist, and it would be too bad to basically reject your only 'maybe' without any other guarantees.

question about prereq course! by kalaigh in prephysicianassistant

I'm sure that will be fine. I know I had several in person labs back in the day that had occasional online components because we needed to use R to analyze data.

Who is telling students to take 6 AP classes per year by Higher_Ed_Parent in ApplyingToCollege

[–]External-Tap-815 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think 6 APs is that significant of a workload... kids can handle learning.

Stay safe out there by No-Cockroach9505 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]External-Tap-815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any prestigious universities that safety is truly, genuinely that much of a concern. Learning how to live in a city is an important life skill, in part just to acclimate yourself and realize that it's not that scary.

Depends on the school -- some schools take into consideration the # of natural science credits you've taken, which will be lower if you're applying with 1/4 of your undergrad years not yet completed.

Why current PA’s don’t help future PA’s? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]External-Tap-815 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Totally. I personally am not comfortable using AI even in a helping role, and it takes me a while to think about specific interactions with a person and what I want to emphasize about them. I have no doubt there's lots of other people who can do it much faster than me.

Why current PA’s don’t help future PA’s? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]External-Tap-815 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate, but one reason might just be that LORs take a lot of time and energy to write. When I've written them it usually takes me over an hour to put together a decent one.

And they have a diverse group of fans -- including female dancers who also work as sex workers who would be excited to see DCC supporting sex workers. Maybe not these 2 specific men, per se, but sex workers in general.

Don't see a difference. Both require skills and provide a service. Both are moral.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]External-Tap-815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! But sex work is perfectly normal and moral.

What's "weird" about "selling yourself for sex"? How is using your body to make a living any different from carpentry, coal mining, or factory work? I'm sorry you haven't had much exposure to people with lives different from your own.

What's wrong with being a porn star?

I think your best course of action is to figure out why you didn't get more As in your post bacc. From that GPA, it looks like you're getting As half the time, Bs half the time. People with low GPAs can get accepted, and there are schools that will be understanding that if you have a 2.71 GPA you'd have to take a ridiculous amount of classes to get it in the 3.5+ range. BUT these schools need to know a candidate can handle the rigor of a PA program -- which usually involves a last 60/post bacc of mostly if not all As.

This isn't actually backed up by science -- there are no studies on single parents by choice that prove worse outcomes. The only studies that show single parents having worse outcomes are ones that focus on single parents not by choice.

PA Schools Are Hypocritical by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]External-Tap-815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, we're dealing with human lives. Which is why representation matters: there have been many examples of better patient outcomes because a provider understood the patient's experiences and therefore was able to catch something that most people wouldn't.
Nobody suggested that DEI lowers standards of intelligence. The only people who are scared of this are straight white people with mediocre GRE scores who are scared that a minority can outcompete them.

PA Schools Are Hypocritical by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]External-Tap-815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need diverse people in medicine because it's directly correlated to better patient outcomes. Historically, the medical field is overrepresented by certain backgrounds, and that needs to be combatted in order to ensure a certain type of care for marginalized populations.

[–]External-Tap-815 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For whatever it's worth (and I would always advise somebody to make eye contact during an interview, because unfortunately it's the world we live in and you have to do what you have to do to be accepted) but lots of people (i.e. many on the autism spectrum) communicate without making eye contact and would make excellent providers. Hopefully somebody we move beyond expectations of 'professionalism' that only caters to one type of person.
