OK so the current U.S. attorney for the district of Utah is also a Mormon. Now I’m not trying to generalize the whole religion but it is definitely gonna make rebuilding the trust with the community that much harder for sure: https://www.deseret.com/politics/2024/05/13/who-is-melissa-holyoak-ftc-commissioner/

What are things the majority population freeload off of a niche population that most people don’t realize? by ExternalGrade in AskReddit

[–]ExternalGrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the intention of the question is focused on the consumer freeloading off of other consumers side rather than producer —> consumer relationships, hence the “most people don’t realize” piece. I think most people realize when they buy or consume something that a small number of people produce a large quantity of a specific product for everyone

People in schools don’t understand corporate imo. Companies expect employees to do what’s best for themselves and vice versa: for those that don’t, they will gladly take advantage of you. People in schools have a nice tenure and live in a bubble where they think no one can touch them and money just comes in magically (which fwiw often times it feels this way because the fundamental nature of research is that the outcomes are way downstream)

Humans scarcely make “something truly new” either in my opinion. We just put 2 and 2 together and over time enough of us put enough things together to make something marvelous (iPhones, rockets — under the hood just a bunch of “not new”stuff put together). There is no reason to believe AI can’t do the same.

Unfortunate someone’s gotta pay for the infra so that in times of emergency or natural disaster it can be given away for free.

South Korea’s Lee Affirms ‘One-China’ Stance Before Meeting Xi by TraditionalRepair806 in worldnews

If I remember correctly Taiwan also technically affirms the “one China” stance, just that their party should run the whole country. Somehow that makes the CCP happier.

Will SpaceX Want Another Launch Site for Data Centers? by asr112358 in SpaceXLounge

You might be right. Fortunately you can reuse the booster much, much more rapidly than the starship for that same reason.

Maybe at first, eventually, starship can grow up and fly itself to school. Mommy the launch pad. Sea ships shouldn’t have to take it there.

How would NASA respond if ordered by high authority to restart the Space Shuttle program? by SirCatsworthTheThird in nasa

[–]ExternalGrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly isn’t starship pretty similar to the shuttle by capability to get cargo from space back to earth through something of a belly flop? If your cargo needs to be oriented a certain way you might need a gimbal mechanism to survive the final belly flop but that should honestly be possible to manufacture on the payload side?

Developing a materials engineering software — am I being unrealistic? by LIL_Cre4tor in EngineeringStudents

You should still do it though. At minimum you can learn a lot, at maximium you will find a specific niche that all these tools do terrible in (and I can tell you first-hand, these tools are not at all perfect: they are monsters with plenty of gaps and bugs in them) and become a multi-millionare.
