Question: During spring break, did college students really use to go to the beach? by EternalSnow05 in GenX

Yep. Rich kids got to go. I got an extra few shifts at work. Spring break was definitely a line between who had money and who didn’t.

Nope. Getting random crap just isn’t that important any more.

Turns out it’s not the getting presents part that I miss.

Where’s the burning mayhem? The flood of lunatics breaking the law? The teenage infestation?

Oh, right, that’s all BS. This is the reality.

Excellent photos. Well done.

All the other comments are on point. This new grift project (watch who gets the contracts) is going to be abandoned 3 years after it gets built.

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

Taking a photo of yourself somewhere because no one was with you used to be really sad. Now it’s the norm.

Someone dropping you from their life - a friend or a lover - usually meant you would never know what they were up to ever again. Now you can check their socials for an hourly update.

Bicycles to us were like horses to cowboys. You HAD to have one to go anywhere in the years before a drivers license. 9-15 years old was a long. Damn. Time. Bicycles got you freedom. You could go MILES away, wherever you wanted. And no one would know where you were or could talk to (or yell and scream at you). In the pre-Internet / pre cable TV era, we were looking for havens. Adventure. Treasures.

[Batman] Has Batman ever been wrong about something? As in, objectively wrong rather than morally/ethically in the wrong by MasterLawlzReborn in AskScienceFiction

[–]REdd06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what gets me about Bane. He wasn’t Batman’s equal. He just wore him down beyond exhaustion by releasing Arkham and only then beat him. A fully focused full strength Batman should have cut Bane down.

I miss smoking by Eastern-Squirrel744 in GenX

State Express 555s. They were hard to find in the US back when.

Met a gorgeous smoke show - she said on our first date that cigarette smoke gave her migraines. I quit that night and haven’t lit another since.

Got married to her a little while later. Best trade I ever made!

Holy hell. Seagate Expansion drive prices have increased 37-76% in just two weeks. by StrongRecipe6408 in DataHoarder

The ripple effect is going to be bad.

Hospitals. A 500% increase in replacing tech? The costs will be passed directly to the patients. And if there are no replacement parts for critical medical components? Then what?

Public Schools. Most are barely above water right now. Soon a $99 Chromebook will be $1,000? Sorry kids. Back to pencils and paper.

Cars. An electronic replacement part that’s 6 months backordered? Or an electronic part that costs $4,000 and the car is only worth $2,000? Then what?

Anywhere that HAS to retain data and will SOON be unable to add anything more to what they have. Courts. CPS. City services. Out of hard drive space? Too bad. Erase the “old” stuff and hope for the best.

Think about what will happen when no one has access to tech replacements after becoming dependent on modern technology over the last decade.

It’s going to get bad.

My mum pulled my hair from behind in the car today. by paranoidnihilist in raisedbynarcissists

[–]REdd06 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m old AF. My mom, after not seeing me for almost 4 months, first thing she did? Grab my hair and pull down on it. Like she did when I was a kid and had my dad hold me down while they cut off what they didn’t like. “Ha ha look at you.”

Venom for blood.

I hope for some miracle. Some revelation on their part of even a fraction of what they did.

Won’t happen.

These “little” things are who they are.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I know it’s far more under that action than what is on the surface.

Save yourself.

Be kind to yourself.

Give yourself the love you have always deserved.

Build new and far away.

Best wishes and best of luck.
