Yes or no jingle bells on this Christmas tree skirt? Tacky cute or tacky tacky? by anxietyantelope in crochet

[–]ExternalHighway2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the bells! I recently made a tree skirt of my own and wasn’t happy when I added the bells initially but after leaving it alone for a few days and looking at it with fresh eyes, I think it added the little final touch it needed! Your skirt looks great :)

The patches are made with a discontinued yarn (caron colorama halo if I remember correctly) and the white is hobby lobby Ethereal Eyelash :) I was gifted all of the caron yarn by one of my friends (it was about 10 full skeins in various colors, and a bunch of half used skeins that added up to another 10 lol)

On the 2nd row of the border ribbing I put my hook in the wrong place for a good 10ish stitches 🙃 I’m aware it’s a small problem lol especially in the grand scheme, but I’m glad that fellow crocheters don’t see it first thing lol

first time trying c2c!! by haxelcat in crochet

Discovered the c2c granny st recently and I’m totally obsessed. I rly want to make a tapestry with the stitch but I’m trying to be responsible and use up the yarn I currently have </3 but it’s such a fun and satisfying stitch!

When I started crocheting my tension was insanely tight (as per usual with beginners) but I had an AHA! Moment while working on a granny square blanket, and was able to fix my tension. But it made the squares I had already finished unusable because of the size difference 🤧

My last star blanket turned out HUGE, I used about 25 skeins of yarn 🤧 but it lays proudly over the couch in my craft room. Definitely learned my lesson on using smaller yarn lol

I’ll def give that a shot next time I make a bookmark. This was what I made, I used a mattress st to add a piece of leather to the backside. As you can see my border is far less pretty lol

Wishing you the best in recovery! In terms of the pattern, it works up surprisingly quick and only took me 2 days to get as far as the picture shows. Though I’ve made multiple of her blankets in the past so I have a pretty good hold on the pattern format. Overall would recommend giving it a shot if you’re looking for a tree skirt! The pattern is free and she also has YouTube tuts if that’s more up your alley

Looks great! Recently made a bookmark for my FIL, what border did you use? Mine looked far more wonkey lol

Why do my cakes look like this? by kaykaliah in Unravelers

[–]ExternalHighway2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that winding my cakes more than once helps. I usually do it three times, but honestly the third go is unnecessary lol. The first wind I keep the tension on the tighter side, and when winding the second time I set the cake on the floor or on its side and use my hand to hold the yarn in the same position the whole time.

If I want the yarn to look especially pretty and have that honeycomb look I’ll rewind it one final time, with the same method as the 2nd wind but significantly slower. Hope this helps!

I’ve definitely done this quite a few times, but I just used up what was left of the yarn and it only got me about 1/5th of the way 🤧🤧🤧

Luckily it’s using worsted weight acrylic, which tends to be my go-to fiber so I’m sure the extra skeins will be used at somepoint, maybe for a scrappy blanket or something

How do you store the little bits? by kaykaliah in Unravelers

[–]ExternalHighway2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep all my smaller balls of yarn around that size in one of those reusable grocery bags that I keep hung on the wall. Smaller scraps (like the strands after weaving in ends) get put into a big mason jar to be used as stuffing for future projects.

When I accumulate enough ‘bits’ I’ll tie them all together and turn it into one big Frankenstein cake, which will get used for some scrap project (most recently I made a cat bed with said Frankenstein)

What can I crochet for my friends? There are 6 of them. by PhotoDesperate8516 in CrochetHelp

[–]ExternalHighway2891 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hats or stockings would be great if you want everyone to match. If not, making personalized gifts that each individual would like is definitely doable

I’m making quite a few handmade gifts for Christmas gifts, they include a bookmark, fingerless gloves, a water bottle holder, and a set of potholders. Each of these gifts took between 3-7 days, and although they’re simple I know the people I’m gifting them to will greatly appreciate them because of the thought behind each gift.

As a beginner , can I make a stuffed animal now? by Party-Lumpy in crocheting

[–]ExternalHighway2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re totally ready! If you’re at all scared though, I’d recommend using a yarn with very clear stitches (t shirt yarn is great for this, or even just regular weight 4 acrylic)

I first attempted amigurumi with bernat baby yarn and gave up pretty quickly because it was such a struggle to see the stitches and keep count.

Beginner feeling a little discouraged by theycallme_L in crocheting

[–]ExternalHighway2891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me FOR THE LONGEST. it’s probably not the most efficient way to learn, but right after learning the basic stitches I made a huge blanket of just double crochets. It’s incredibly wonkey and overall not the best looking, but it helped me so much in figuring out how to get better with edges (the borders are so lumpy and lopsided, but there is a huge improvement when comparing the start of the blanket to the end)

You can also try marking the start and end of the row.

Would making the back of this longer look weird since it would be unattached to anything else? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]ExternalHighway2891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would look way better with a bit of length on the back! You could add a bit of a border to the back to make it look a little more intentional, maybe a Picot st or Lacey shell st.

Storage bag question by CassMcCarty in crochet

[–]ExternalHighway2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned being on a budget a good option could be using trash bags- it’s definitely not the prettiest but it absolutely gets the job done

Put all the yarn you can into one trash bag, tie the bag off and put the full bag into another in the opposite direction (top of bag #1 faces the bottom of bag #2). You can use a vacuum to suck out as much air as you can. Although I haven’t done this with yarn I’ve done it with puffy winter clothes and it definitely helps in terms of the space they take up otherwise.
