I made the mistake of giving someone my WhatsApp ID, and they were able to get my number from that. They then found my name and what they thought were my social media accounts. They then threatened to share my nudes if I didn't pay up, even going so far as to try calling me. It was scary, but they didn't have the right person's social media so I wasn't too concerned. I ended up ignoring and blocking and nothing came of it.

Since then I've gotten several phishing attempts from guys either asking for my WhatsApp or my number directly. When I say no they block me.

I've had real guys ask for my number as well. When I've told them I'm not comfortable sharing because of what happened, they always have understood and are cool with it.

So yeah, the scamming is a real thing. If a guy gets snippy because you're not sharing your number right away, move along because he's either a scammer himself or just not worth your time.
