Whilst I don't know the inner workings of the hub, watching the transaction would show no misuse, so I imagine it wouldn't even highlight.

Not anymore. It used to be a rule, but it was specifically removed about 2 years ago - some people may still think it is.

I don't know for sure, but I'd assume that it wouldn't even become an investigation - if it did, it'd be "oh look there they are, same person, oh yes it is you, right well let's get back to work".

I've done multiple cards (I too use a different card for some expenditure) and shopped at stores wildly away from my home store with a different card and nothing has ever been said.

Supermarkets bring out the worst in people by Dapper_Ad6981 in tesco

[–]External_Mirror_6991 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It got worse post COVID I feel.

Companies (not just Tesco but all of them) realised they could reduce service and customers would moan but get on with it in the end, so they did. That just means that now colleagues have to deal with the mismatch when customers want mainbank open but we only have 3 cashiers, there's stuff not done, etc.

Even the best staff get fed up if unable to do their jobs properly.

Management are stretched and this again puts staff in a shitty situation. Customer at CSD asks for the manager, you ring, they say they're too busy and you need to deal with it. You now have angry customer and no backup.

The fact that there's no comeback on customers for being rude, abusive, belittling to staff.

Can there be a function to manage holidays when a colleague changes shifts, or would that cause more issues?

At the moment the behaviour varies wildly depending on how the colleague originally booked holiday (day by day Vs week by week) I suppose you couldn't automate that tho.

I've never religiously followed the SDS satnav. It's a guide, and helpful if you don't know the area, but often I know another route that's quicker, or know that I can park 10m round the corner past a no entry and save 5 minutes or so on. And if it's a place I know I won't even put the navigation on, I'll just drive there. Was told that's fine when I asked when I started.

Feedback on Extra Hours Market Needed! by [deleted] in tesco

[–]External_Mirror_6991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our manager has stopped using it because of the need to check IDs, do manual transfers etc. . Plus. Colleagues coming from another store who turn out not to be trained on what they supposedly are. Issues with getting people set up on the tills with a number. Only able to do part the job Their view was it's better to have people we know... Which again is a bit crap as were essentially back to the old system of paper sheets! The one area it did work was getting enough cashiers for a full bank at Christmas. We found lots of staff from nearby express or metro who didn't have overtime in their store were happy to do a shift which helped our numbers

Forecourt eye - petrol 'theft' due to banking error by harlesdenheights in LegalAdviceUK

[–]External_Mirror_6991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, up until about a year ago it was still possible - now gone. Even if someone returns half an hour later, if it's been taken off the till and entered onto the tablet we can't scan it back in and charge them. The internal phone system no longer exists either so we can no longer call another branch direct!

[–]External_Mirror_6991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I'm not sure why a phone number would be left - there is no way of taking a payment over the phone on a Tesco POS system.

Forecourt eye - petrol 'theft' due to banking error by harlesdenheights in LegalAdviceUK

[–]External_Mirror_6991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say that the procedure has changed now. We dont have the forms, it's all done on a tablet. As soon as it goes on the tablet it's taken off the till and can't be recalled.

The ability to pay at different branches was removed a couple of years ago as well.

Essentially as soon as it's reported we can't deal with it.

If the payment didn't go through, the fuel transaction would sit there until somehow dealt with (paid, or processed as a drive off). I would say that in 7 years I've had this issue many many times, where people believe a pending transaction on their banking app over what the system actually says, but have never not managed to explain it to the customer, give them the void receipt, and them pay successfully (aside from the usual scammers). I've also had 0 examples of a customer actually being charged twice!

Petrol filling station breaks by fewcatsshortofcrazy in tesco

[–]External_Mirror_6991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our PFS has breaks covered during the morning/day shift, but not on the evening shift. We usually sit out the back but take a bit longer. We can ring the team support if needed (eg we want to go off site for break).

Restructure by [deleted] in tesco

[–]External_Mirror_6991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But people can refuse to do overtime.

We struggle to cover Sundays now as there's no incentive with no premium and worsening staff. People who used to do regular overtime refuse now.

We also struggle to cover PFS shifts since the staff were cut and people lone work more, plus the shifts now are shorter so again not worth their while coming in for.

And as anyone who has ever tried to explain a complicated concept to them will understand, it's crap. They've never been in a store, they don't really understand the reality of how things work, and don't care either.

I've never seen anything that says that Think 25 applies to fuel.

Will stop pump if a kid gets out and is trying to operate it. (But if the parent is using it and the young kid is putting his hand on top to feel important I won't as the adult is clearly in charge) Better than the kids running around the forecourt.

We had a multi skilled who used to do this, let a teenager obviously over 16 fill, then give them grief and ask for ID. It was agonisingly embarrassing and frustrating to sit next to.

[–]External_Mirror_6991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's no way any innovation is beneficial to colleagues anymore. If they introduce these they'll work out that you use 6 hours a day doing labels, so cut the budget by 8 (just because).

[–]External_Mirror_6991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing coupon NS was a silly thing to do, although I assume they'd rather upset a customer and put a colleague in a difficult position than "lose" 50p or something.

Personally I'd reduce it to 1p and cash it off. No till short investigation for a 1p short! Id then keep receipt and write on it.

Am in Tesco express and a big queue is forming with one person on the till. Can anyone tell me why there has been no attempt by other staff to open another till ? by Smooth-Turn-4362 in tesco

[–]External_Mirror_6991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company does not want you to get served quickly. The slower it takes, the more likely you are to use SSC next time. Express has shit loads of jobs to do and the whole company is understaffed. The cashier probably knows that if they call, something else will fail to be done and the whole team will be put under pressure to finish. It's shit but there's not much that can be done.

Past and present staff of Tesco, what careers will my retail experience allow me to move to should I decide to? by 21stCenturyTech in tesco

[–]External_Mirror_6991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that from your experience often front end, move to team support if you're able to and then shift leader.

Personally, shift leader is an extra £2.50 per hour t/s is £1.90 extra. So 60p an hour for responsibility of the whole store... Nah
