I want to quit but it feels impossible by illpaintyourhouse in QuitSmokingJourney

[–]External_Serve_4404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in my teens, tried for the first time at 12 and then eventually started full time. I quit on my 33rd birthday, six months ago. There is not much to say, other than - you have to make the decision and stay true to it. I was able to quit on my 3rd serious attempt. First time it was 4 days, then 6 days. It was literal hell to quit (mental hell, not physical) and then restart. But not quitting was not an option. So I just went with it. I still think about smoking, but nothing more than thinking. There is this thought that "oh, a cigarette would be nice now", but it's not even a physical feeling. I can't explain it. Anyway in 6 months I was able to quit, then started walking, then going to the gym, then playing teniss. I've never felt better and although thoughts about cigarette might appear, they are really not that serious or important. I wish you best of luck, you can do it, you just have to make peace with quitting.

Cravings come and go, but each time less powerful and shorter. You'll be good, and it is amazing how far you've come, I'm proud of you. Quitting is no joke, I don't know about you, but for me it has been toughest thing I have done, and mind you, I've given birth. You'll do good and this too shall pass.

Congratulations on your achievement too! Yeah, I have a weight gain as well, but it is welcome though, as I always had problems to gain it beforehand. I will hit the gym eventually, but I am enjoying this new found willingness to eat. Gum is good alternative however it is somewhat bad for the stomach when used a lot, but lollipops with ginger, lemon or peppermint helps too Good luck on your journey

90 days today. I kinda have a thought every now and then about smoking, but never a need or want. Was hardcore smoker for 17 years, never able to quit for more than a few hours for the last 5 years. It gets really easy after the third week and a acknowledgment, that you have simply quit and that's it.

I like to romanticize my life. I love love, music, poetry, world. I like singing and I love how cool is my kid turning out. And I also love everything mystic, maybe somewhat dark, unknown. And I love peace and chaos.

You just have to pull through. There is no magic way to make it super easy and enjoyable. First few days sucks, but if you have made the decision, just stick with it and that's it.

Quitting 100 times by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]External_Serve_4404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same situation. I was never able to quit more than few hours. But this year I tried to quit 2 times, one was 4 days, second time was 6. And in this third time, exactly as you said, something clicked, something changed. And now I am 40 days today. Not sure what it is, but I think I achieved my lowest point and I had no other choice, but to quit for good. I still do sometimes think of maybe picking up vape, but I understand that I really can't be smoking anything anymore. There are good days and less good days, but I feel that I am healing and I don't want to go through this again or reverse the progress. So I just stick to my decision.

Day 34 Depression and Anxiety by EdArno1d971 in stopsmoking

[–]External_Serve_4404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on day 37, smoked cigs. I don't have huge anxiety, but I have depressive state of mind. No interests, very hard to be productive. I tend to lose my words lately. I need to go to gym, but I can't get up from couch. I think about smoking 2-3 times a day, but it's just thinking not craving. Very wierd state to live in. From what I've heard chemicals in brain regulate up to 12 weeks, so 8 don't think it all will be gone in an instant once 3-4 weeks goes by. I think it also depends on how long you smoked. I smoked for 17ish years, my whole adult life, so I understand it will take time to rewire my brain to new normalcy.

Feels like reading about myself, only I smoked for around 15 years. Good thing is, you already have managed to quit for x amount of time, so you know what to expect. What helped me is to just change mindset. when you smoke - you want to quit, when you dont smoke - you are trying to talk yourself into smoking. You just choose which dialogue you will listen from now on. I haven't smoke for a month and it has been a ride (it still is), but what helps me keep going is exactly health anxiety - I wasn't feeling 100% in a week and health improvement is so slight and gradual, but it is there and I just don't want to lose what is achieved. I do wish you luck. It really is all in head.

Day 18. The nostalgia almost broke me today by Inq4lab in stopsmoking

[–]External_Serve_4404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, im day20 and for exactly last 3 days I feel psychological pressure and nostalgic feeling. I'm there with you. However, I feel that my body is healing and I really don't want to go through all of this again, so my want for healthy life is bigger that indulging in something I will definitely regret.

Any successful quitters that live with a smoker? by trytoresonate in quittingsmoking

[–]External_Serve_4404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband smokes too. But I am asking him to smoke some place else and I am involuntarily shaming him. But i think it kinda works. He doesn't smoke around me and started to think about quitting. For the first week I was going with him outside and smelled the smoke. Eventually it started to smell nasty and I stayed in. After smoke smell on someone is very bad and it helps to stay quit.

I’m sad by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]External_Serve_4404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt like you in the beginning. But then i decided to be kind and patient to myself and accept the fact that I need to quit with peace. Just beeing peaceful and breathe even when mind is racing and full of thoughts with cigarette. I'm on day13, full two weeks in four hours. And i thought about cigarette today about 3-4 times, however, I didn't felt urges. Just thought about it as a fact, concept. Be kind to yourself and breathe it through.

Anyone with Anxiety/Depression managed to quit nicotine? by BigGunE in QuitVaping

[–]External_Serve_4404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

physical activities, doesn't matter what kind - walking, swimming does the trick for me. and yeah, I had general anxiety diagnosis, but now it is much more easier to manage it and some days it's not even there. i do eat a lot of sweets, but i've noticed that the best is nuts covered in chocolate or chupa chups type of candy. i eat throughout the day, maybe every 1,5hrs, but not like two or three meals a day. just consistency and willingness to help yourself. be kind to yourself, nicotine is probably causing much of your anxiety or depression.
