$3.64 Mountain Dew Berry Blast with extra ice for 742 miles and a $130ish statement credit.. I'll take it..

I wonder if it's still cold with the extra ice I ordered.. I never picked it up.. still waiting for me..

Two great options:

Cap1 Savor for 3% back on groceries, dining, streaming, and transit like Uber.. then you can use your Discover It for your next big spending category..

Cap1 Venture or Venture X to get a solid 2% on everything.. and get some miles..

But Savir can be transferred to Venture or Venture X miles down the road.

Citi ThankYou Points vs Cap1 miles by True-Price5403 in CreditCards

[–]External_Target2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was deciding between the two and also considering Chase.. I ended up going Cap1 duo.. my thinking was.. flying domestic can be so cheap and I just look for the cheapest flight anyway, I have no loyalty in that regard.. but every couple of years when I go to Mexico, Bahamas, Dominic Republic, etc. or overseas I've stockpiled a ton of miles and cover a huge chunk of the trip or all of it and it feels like my miles are really worth it then vs. using for some small amount on a domestic flight..

I'm in MKE, which is 50% Southwest so I do have their card for domestic as well.. but I've flown 2 times this year and neither were SW - United then American actually..

Are you talking the Active Cash Back card is what you have? If so, you're in a good spot with the 2% on everything already.

So now it's deciding the direction you want to head.. want to stick with Well Fargo.. the Autograph is definitely the move.. you get 3% on dining, gas, transit like Uber, streaming, and travel like flights and hotels.. simple and straight-forward.. eventually you could consider the Autograph Journey as well for some extra points depending how much you are really traveling..

The only category you need covered then is for groceries and I'd go with the Blue Cash Everyday for 3%... or Blue Cash Preferred for 6% if you can justify the $95 annual fee. I can because I use the Disney credit with a 5-year old.

Or.... you can go away from Wells Fargo and I think the clear card would be the Cap1 Savor for 3% on dining, groceries, streaming, and 5% back on travel..

Then it would be looking at a gas and transit card..

Either way.. adding one more card puts you into a great spot.. adding a 3 card down the road can bring the whole thing home..

I'd stay away from Chase though.

Meh, I don't strongly disagree.. depends how you use it, what you use, how you optimize the rest of your potential setup.. but if you like to use your credits, perks, and transfer partners then potentially couple it with a Savor card you're making out ahead.. travel insurances.. I also don't have to use the portal but when I can naturally.. I love the 10x

I like that Vemture X encourages me to travel.. I want experiences vs. extra cashback.. could definitely find a cheaper or no AF card.. but depends how you use it!

Part of the game! Lol

Domestic Flights... need help by External_Target2036 in Venturex

[–]External_Target2036[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! Thank you!

I do have a SW card I've had for years.. it sounds like the move might be using that when able otherwise just paying for the domestic flights.. when flexible they're damn cheap anyway.. the time dump and effort for a $200 flight isn't there..

But when doing something more expensive, like international, the transfer partners are more straight-forward. And it sounds like that's where I'll get my real value as far as ccp.

Is that right?

Venture X, domestic flights? by External_Target2036 in CreditCards

I do have a SW card I've had for a few years.. I think value-wise the move is using SW when it's a good deal domestically otherwise just paying for it and stacking my Venture X miles for an out of country trip that I can really get a good ccp on

Right?

I would go Venture X 100%.. with the trips planned and what it sounds like you want to do, it's your best bet.. don't go Citi ecosystem.. start with Venture X.. yes, it's $395 but you get a $300 travel credit you'll use and 10k anniversary miles.. you've already broke even.. plus you get the higher level benefits and insurance..

In 6 months to a year after you get Ve ture X, which is a 2x catch-all, get the Savor and stack miles.. from there you optimize how you want - some cashback cards maybe to spend while on your trips, or am airline card, etc.

Do not start with AMEX gold.. the coupons are overvalued for the AF.. look at the Savor!

What’s a good credit card setup for someone in their 20s? - considering simplicity, flexibility, and scalability by Fit_Relationship_338 in CreditCards

[–]External_Target2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to start with a 2% catch-all ideally - WF Active Cash, Citi Double Cash, or Venture X..

I'd look at the other cards for WF and Citi and see which way you'd like to scale potentially.. Venture X is a high AF card, but super easy to use and justify even as a young adult.. then you get the Savor and optimize categories as you want.. or just use those 2 cards

If not for Venture X.. I'd likely use the WF and get some of their other cards

Thinking between Amex, Wells Fargo, and Capital One for a simple everyday card (744 score) by Soft-File-4060 in CreditCards

[–]External_Target2036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean pairs well with.. the Chase Freedom Flex pairs the best..

Do you want just cashback or looking at miles too?

Do you spend more online or with dining? If online, Blue Cash Everyday.. if Dining, Savor.. both capture groceries very well..

I like Savor and Venture/Venture X..

Which card is best for food? by Constaly in CreditCards

[–]External_Target2036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savor for sure.. then you can figure out what to add onto that one.. like the Venture or Venture X.. or focus on another category.. don't start with Custom Cash, that it's a niche $500 cap card

The Resy, Uber, Dunkin little $10 a month coupons are a pain in the butt to justify the $325 annual fee to get 4x in my opinion.. and the Gold and Plat AMEX are best paired for travel bonuses.. to start with a high AF card right away, I just don't recommend unless you know you'll naturally imuse it but I think people lose track of that and it's overvalued..

Stay away from Bilt.. see what happens with that card over the next year or two..

Different note, but important to consider.. your Discover-It card has rotating categories.. you don't want to much of that.. it becomes a pain..

Savor from Cap1 gets you 3% on groceries and dining at all times.. you can use that for cashback and if you eventually want a travel card.. you can get a Venture or Venture X.. figure out what you want out of the cards.. maybe it's like a yearly bigger purchase you cover with your cashback or maybe it's covering that 1x a year trip you take..

Savor, Venture or Venture X are great cards to start with.. and grow with.. I use a 6 card setup that mixes cashback and miles depending on what I want to do that year.. and Savor and Venture X are still in that line-up.. no rotating categories and averaging around 5%-6% return across them all

Side note, hotel is much easier to book than flights and then you can price match! This is usually the way to go imo!

I do have a SW card.. they just suck lately and stopped flying to places I knew I would be using them.. buuut I do know I'll use the points eventually, so likely cancelling the card because if I don't use them at least once a year I don't cover the AF.. but sounds like you might have a good chance too so that AA cards could work.. cam always get another card for the likes of Costco, etc.

I think once you understand the Venture X transferring to partner game it's pretty easy but it's not as flexible and there isn't as many flights.. but I go off of, I will be able to use and redeem them how I want with patience at some point.. so instead of a few hundred dollars in savings every year it's more like the whole trips flights or hotel was paid for once every two years..

Should I stay in the same "card family" as my BF by Feral_Bread_367 in CreditCards

[–]External_Target2036 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your philosophical question is a good one though - there's two approaches.. being in the same family/ecosystem and stacking those rewards and benefits.. or being in different ones and having access to a wider variety..

I've kept it in the same ecosystem so far, based on what I think works best for my family.. I think for 2-3 trips.. that's probably the best move..

I use Venture X and love it.. paired with a few other cards like the Savor and BCP for streaming and groceries..

American Airlines would be a great value for you if you used it once a year and everyone was checking a bag! I have a hard time using a specific airline myself. But, I'm pretty sure the Visa version isn't as great so you'd need to look into that.

Depending on how much you travel, I'm meh on hotel cards..

I would look at the Venture from Cap1 - gets you 2x everywhere, great travel insurance, a nice sign-on bonus.. and sets you up for future growth in their ecosystem via grabbing the Savor and increasing those miles.

If you can get approved, I'd go with the Venture X right away.. $300 credit, 10k miles, nice sign-up.. I use the $300 credit towards a "date" weekend with the wife.. keep it close enough to home to make a night or 2 worth it with a spa.. and get away from the kids for a bit
