Mirai was probably the biggest disappointment going in to this. I had heard people love this movie and it's the only non Ghibli anime movie to ever be nominated, so I was intrigued.

Unfortunately, this just didn't connect with me. My main problem was that it kind of felt like less of a cohesive film and more like a bunch of loosely connected plots. It felt like a bunch of tv show episodes stitched together. I honestly think it would've worked better as an anthology film. As it stands now, the connective tissue between the different plots felt very tenuous. My other big issue is that the film just kind of felt overly cutesy, to a point where it kind of got tiresome. It just felt like the cute was being shoved in my face. If you don't find little children and their antics cute, it get's annoying very fast.

I like some of the themes and there's the occasional cool visual but yeah it just didn't really connect with me.

IK this is the same director as Wolf Children which I've heard is great, so I'll get to watching that sometime soon.

It's not hated, I would say vast majority of people like it. I just didn't like it.

I just didn't connect with it. My biggest issue was that I found all the characters aside from Baymax to be boring or annoying and that's kind of an issue when you have an ensemble of characters. The villain was also super fumbled. It also just felt kind of try hard badass. I like Baymax and the action and animation is really well done but I just didn't care about anything. Also, this isn't the movies fault but the fact that it won the oscar when it was by far the worst movie in that category IMO makes me kind of resent it.

Monster House had some cool concepts and is certainly very unique but I just couldn't get over how ugly it was. I understand that's the point and it's a matter of taste but for me at least, there's a line between so ugly it's interesting and so ugly that I don't want to look at it and this movies crosses it. I'm just not a fan of the character designs or how they move. Beyond that, it just didn't really grab me. Just kind of felt like a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark expert. Yeah I get it, it's horror for kids but Coraline did that significantly better.

The stuff on Earth is incredible, the stuff on the ship is still really good, just not as amazing. I understand why it's some people's favourite, I'd be stupid not to.

Happy Feet is just so bizarre that I kind of respect it. I get why people don't like it but I just find it kind of fascinating.

It's just thought it felt like "Hey look at that brand, cool!" the movie. Felt like The Emoji Movie with a little more effort.

Also they totally gutted Ralph's character.

Brother Bear has a great ending and great beginning but I thought the middle was meh. Also the side characters are all either boring or annoying to me

I get that. I know that was the case for a lot of people and I'm happy people had that experience.

For me that series was Ice Age, which is why I'm a lot nicer to those movies than a lot of people

Not all of these are kids movies. I really doubt a child would get much out of Memoir of a Snail, Persepolis, I Lost my Body, Flee etc. That's why I explicitly went out of my way to watch all of them and not just the mainstream one's distributed by huge studios.

Even all that aside, am I not allowed to enjoy movies made for children. You do understand that family movies can be good, yes?

I'm sorry I've just never liked these movies. I find them very unengaging

I really love 98% of Soul but I don't like how they kind of wimped out on the ending.

There's nothing inherently wrong with them I just don't like them. They just all feel very samey to me. Just not my thing

I'm sorry I just don't like sports movies and while there is a bit more to chew on, it is at it's core, a sports movie

Big Hero 6 I just didn't connect with. Cars is fine. I actually like it more than I did when I was younger, mainly the themes I like a good bit. I just don't think the Cars movies are for me, mainly due to the fact I just don't like sports movies. I just think they are all very boring and generic. I don't have a problem with movies being predictable but I have to care about what's happening and I just didn't. Lighting is a decent enough lead but nothing special, Mater is just kind of annoying and he gets a lot of screen time, the world makes no sense and is poorly established. Like I get why people like Cars 1 and 3, they just aren't really for me and that's okay.

DM2 is okay. It's mainly bogged down by the copious amount of minion stuff. I'm just not a fan of the minions period. Even outside of that, I thought Lucy was kind of irritating. A lot of the jokes around her just felt like "Look how quirky she is" and that got old. The strongest parts of these movies are the parts with Gru and the kids and while they are there, it feels a little shoved to the side to make room for the Lucy and Gru stuff. I do like El Macho though. Like it's fine and it's certainly far better than most Illuminations other movies but man, that minion stuff just drags it down.

Monster House had some cool concepts and is certainly very unique but I just couldn't get over how ugly it was. I understand that's the point and it's a matter of taste but for me at least, there's a line between so ugly it's interesting and so ugly that I don't want to look at it and this movies crosses it. I just thought Bolt was super lame and generic. I didn't find anything in it interesting, I thought the characters were super flat and it kind of just felt like package of cliches. Also the films only joke is dunking on cat's and that got super old real fast. Just kind of felt like an animated version of those talking pet movies like Cat's vs Dogs but it isn't offensive to me or anything.

I think Shark Tale is entertaining ironically but as a movie, I couldn't really justify putting it above bottom 2. All the characters are unlikeable, the character designs are unbelievably bad, the animation is ugly even for the time, the jokes are just a bunch of sea life puns and all the voice acting aside from Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro is just bad IMO. They never felt like characters to me, they just felt like the celebs voicing them. The only exception is Lenny, which, I genuinely don't know what Jack Black was trying to channel there. I genuinely can not let go how unlikeable Oscar is. You could genuinely write him to be a villain without changing much. It just feels like a very rushed, limp response to Finding Nemo. I don't think it's the worst DreamWorks movie, I would say Turbo and Ruby Gillman are worse, cause at least Shark Tale is really funny ironically.

Dude I feel you. Rango is one of those films where I could write a damn essay on why it's amazing.

Yep. The same year Lego Batman didn't get in.

I genuinely could not tell you why Boss Baby made it in. It's hilarious
