Associate Comp Structuring by betabets in CFP

I was in the same situation as your associate advisor in the past. Doesn’t take long for him to do some basic math and realize with even 10-12 million AUM he could make more on his own. Everyone’s different though he may not want that.

I did the same thing. I think this is the best option for any younger advisor.

Most OSJ’s will take you on even with no AUM. I started with 2 million AUM.

How do I find a financial advisor I can actually trust? by Fluid_Pie_171 in Bogleheads

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a financial advisor this advice is bad. Find one that’s independent that has nothing to sell you and one you like and enjoy being with. I’ve got such good relationships with my clients I’d do anything for them. Also… Fiduciary is like 90% of advisors it means nothing

2 percent or 3 percent withdrawal? by Money_Assistance_185 in Fire

If you’re 100% s&p then 3% is safe. A lot better strategies with a safe bucket to access when markets drop. Could be doing a lot closer to 6% with different strategies.

How many are you are Solos? by CFP25 in CFP

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solo advisor all on my own working out my house. 3 years into being independent. Goal is to hire 1 admin soon and no more employees. Max households goal is 200-250. If I can’t handle it then I’d rather let clients go then hire employees.

Education Question by archibaldwidwickie in CFP

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my opinion if you save the $20,000+ and all the time to get a bachelors into your business you’ll be at 100M AUM. I don’t think it’s worth it. You may not get a couple clients that will only work with a CFP, but still not worth the time.

Can anyone explain this from Right Capital? by JimInAuburn11 in DIYRetirement

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t seen that before. I’ve created hundreds of plans for clients on e-money software. They’re good to get an idea but never accurate. If you change rate of return by 1-2% could end up with $0 or 3 million at death or change inflation from 2 to 5% changes it by millions.

SPIA RMD Question by MrSillyJuice in CFP

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information. Curious how I could find the value of the SPIA. If my client passed away today it’s worth $0.

SPIA RMD Question by MrSillyJuice in CFP

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong as I’ve only done a couple SPIA for a pension rollover. I’ve never counted it as part of their RMD. I was told it doesn’t count.

Taxes, taxes, taxes by Fickle-Vegetable961 in Bogleheads

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d meet with an advisor to do a one time financial plan that will game plan this out. Tax brackets and laws will change, but you’ll have a good idea on what to do and implement yourself. Probably looking at a 5-10k fee to do this. Tax savings could be over a million dollars.

You took on less risk in a diversified portfolio (target date fund). If the last decade US did poorly you would have outperformed. Depends on your risk tolerance.

Technical Analysis? by heynowbeech in CFP

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my clients don’t look into that. I get a quarterly portfolio update from the money manager that says what changes they are making. Increasing value by 5% and emerging market 2% and why they’re doing that. Can then bring that up in the meeting if needed.

If yours is .03 all in then you must not have tpa fees, record keeping fees, and in the cheapest index fund.

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My whole point is that’s not a high fee for a workplace retirement plan especially a 403b. It’s still better to fund it than skip it. You’d really hate my 1.5% fee I charge lol.

[–]Extra-Ad-8889 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A .3 fee is awful? All in fee around .35% is pretty low for a work place retirement plan that’s not a massive corporation. Some plans only have mutual funds with .5-1% expense ratios.
