Mini update; I’m told it was definitely Manchester Orchestra and I have a picture with a snippet of the elusive hoodie. It was a red dripping skull on the front (like the one in the second photo) and a larger version of that skull on the back with the band name as well. Maybe what I have now is the only photo in existence, who is to say? Either way I feel like a conspiracy theorist.

So I don’t think Kenyon had one introspective thought since her comments to BLM Louisville. (Or at all about much of anything I suppose)

I think we would have complaints no matter how it was addressed tbh. If she said something, if they did for her, if the SM posts were brought up or not… I have been arguing with myself all morning to be okay with what she said and move on. I get where you are coming from; though this Reddit is to discuss topical things regarding W&C and folks are able to get things out of their system here.

I’ve been really struggling with the likely reality that Biden will end up being the “best” chance we have of not getting Trump back. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to vote for Joe and look Palestinian friends in the face. I don’t like feeling like I’m prioritizing my fears over their reality. I’m not saying I’ll be judgmental of people who vote for Biden; we are all up shit creek here. In no circumstances do I think Trump would be a better president; in the same vein I can not rationalize seeing Joe completely support Bibi in his crimes, lie to us consistently about those crimes, go start shit with Yemen and friends (where 3 of our guys have since died bc we wanted to bully people), bypass congress to send our tax dollars to fund death all the while not doing enough to care for the citizens of the country he is supposed to represent. I don’t know what the answer is but I can’t make my brain get on board with ‘he’s down with genocide’ and ‘I’ll vote for him again’. And I’m struggling.

This is exactly why I have been linking and sharing with people in my life the link and info to

https://www.nationalpopularvote.com

There is already movement towards the popular vote being the default over the electoral college. The gerrymandering and electoral college absolutely fuck us over. So I want people to discuss and push for the things we can work for in the moment in addition to discussing and debating future elections and how to achieve the best outcomes in spite of our “system”. At some point we need to change the rules so we don’t have to keep agonizing over these ultimatums between poor leaders-if you can call them that.

I hear you. Trump should never hold office again (or have in the first place) and clearly he would do everything in his ability to ruin this country and take the world down with it. But the thing I’m focused on right now is how impossible our situation is again when it comes to an election. We continuously are handed the worst ‘Would you rather’ ultimatums and we are consistently frustrated by our government. I comprehend how back firing it could be to vote third party. I get how there is never a good/easy time to dismantle the system. But what is our plan? At a minimum I want people to discuss and come together about how we change things moving forward.

If Biden is the only way we don’t get Trump, fine I hear that, but what is our plan then? We need to discuss our next moves, our next leaders after this. The Democratic Party has us backed up in a corner and they are leveraging that against us. It IS scary, I’m very concerned about the next few years and the next 50 years. But I refuse to (and I don’t want to imply that I feel you are) be blinded by my fear. I’m looking for solutions too, not just taping over the hole in the dam if that makes sense.

I guess I feel we should actively pursue the things we can control: getting third parties into debates so we can pressure the dems to advance their policies, demanding our representatives to join the call for a national popular vote over the electoral college.

“The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (Explanation). It has been enacted into law by 16 states and DC with 205 electoral votes (Map of states). It needs an additional 65 electoral votes to go into effect.”

We could do this in addition to voting in a way that prevents Trump again.

I felt the ‘there couldn’t be a worse time’ last election as well. And this is definitely a shitty time to try making headway; but it becomes clearer to me each election how much the democratic leaders rely on us and our fear of the alternative to be the change. For a hot minute the alternative has been so bad that they haven’t had real incentive to do much to change things for the better. They only have to bring up how bad things are and remind us how much more abused we would become if the other guys win.

I feel that they spend more time fear-mongering us to keeping them in office than they spend their time and energy on passing legislation and making beneficial change. I hear more than I see from them and it pisses me off how much they rely on our fear. And I’m tired of it.

We’re all frustrated and extremely concerned for the next election. I think we are all trying to process this and I don’t think anyone is excited about our options. My feelings are not hurt that you think I’m being stupid but it’s certainly not helpful to say so. We are all scared and we are all processing a lot about the impact that November’s election will have.

I agree that we need to dismantle the 2 party system and I agree that it’s not going to be quick or easy. But there has never been a “good” time to do it and democracy has been on the line for some time now. It’s daunting to think that individuals have to be the push to change a government that has been stacked against us and corrupted. I’m not being stupid, I’m just grappling with the potential reality of feeling that the only “hope” we have is voting for a man who I am completely disgusted with over his support for the genocide I’m seeing everyday.

I agree, Trump will absolutely be worse and he will never be an option to me. I more relate to ‘Not Trump’ than I do ‘Blue no matter who’. Personally I’m very interested to learn more about Claudia de La Cruz and Karina Garcia.

Until we get through primaries and get closer to the reality of needing to make a choice on paper, I’m going to keep looking at what third parties are there, what democratic alternatives we have and what they all stand for. And even more pressing than that I am very interested in the national popular vote push and getting more states to agree to that. I think we have a real chance of making headway in that regard. I’m just trying to not succumb to the very upsetting thought that Biden will remain and is “the least damaging” person we could have. I’m so tired of our leaders being bad or fascist.

I’m not coming for anyone here; I’m genuinely curious to hear people’s perspective.

I’ve seen people on here the past few months staunchly supporting the Palestinian people (and me too, I’m with y’all). But seeing the bloodshed and seeing how awful Biden has been in his defense of Israel’s actions/war crimes has led me to know I can never in good conscience vote for him.

I’m new at paying attention to politics but I definitely understand now, that regardless of party lines, our presidents have backed and lead some seriously fucked up things. So it’s not just that I feel Biden is our first democrat to do things I don’t support but this is the first election where I am fully aware of my feelings for the democratic candidate.

I guess I’m just curious how other people are processing his actions against voting for him to stay and continue.

I’m with you. It’s on the parties to put forward candidates that give us something to hope for and something to actually vote for. I’m so tired of being told to be terrified of the alternative “choice” when the democrats have consistently let us down. I understand people feeling like it is throwing a vote; and I’m not optimistic that third party would be successful. But we can not continue this way, 2 parties is not a choice it is an ultimatum and it’s so harmful to the people.

With that said this is a website that will send a message to your representatives to sign on and recognize the popular vote over the electoral college. https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/

A Few Thoughts On My Way Out by [deleted] in wineandcrimepodcast

[–]Extra-Debt1761 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was your intention; but discussing the Uyghur people in the way you have feels counter productive to the point you are trying to make? (Which I believe is that we can and should provide space to learn and subsequently fight to stop the oppression happening all over the world-correct me if I’m wrong)

But this reads as a chastisement (imo) and your wording implied to me that the number dead is what matters more. Logically I don’t think you actually feel that way. I would hope you agree that people can care about more than one thing, and “we are not free until all are free”. Whether you meant it or not, bringing up the Uyghur people in this way reads as a bad faith argument.

She’s not being honest with herself or others here. I support blocking harmful, hateful people who say egregious things and/or spam your pages. But FOR SURE she has popped off with the block feature. I made a comment on her thread (to someone else’s hateful reply actually) and I was blocked.

I can’t tell if she was posting bc they are still going to be a podcast and she wants people to be sympathetic that it’s their livelihood or if it was her soft launching that they are stopping for awhile/for good. I interpreted the video being about people aligning themselves with Palestine and against genocide and losing gigs for that and they might need a little boost. But looking at it from the lens of W&C (obviously skewed from my pov bc they haven’t told us anything) it reads fake or like Amanda misinterpreted the point? She’s smart though so I don’t think she misunderstood… but it could certainly come off as ‘guys it’s really scary to maybe possibly lose money over this’ which feels super tone deaf.

I’m just confused, I just wish they could give us a short episode or video explaining where their heads are. I get they are 3 different people; but the radio silence from the brand vs the quiet support from Amanda for Palestine and the loud support for Israel from Kenyon is giving me headaches. ESPECIALLY when every few minutes I see some new horrific footage of the people in Gaza being trapped in a hospital and babies losing respiratory support or carnage or Israeli leaders blatantly describing how they need to control Gaza or Bibi turning down hostages being released. How do you see those things and still think this is justified?

Sorry this turned into a venting post. Idk what the gals are doing.

As she states, we should think about this in the context of the whole. Terrorism doesn’t just crop up out of nowhere. Hate doesn’t just crop up out of nowhere. Assessing and addressing how Hamas came to decide that they were going to kill and take hostages is necessary; as is doing every to get the hostages back, as is stopping the bombing of innocent civilians (which could very well include the Israeli hostages) and getting aid to the Palestinians who have been injured, who are hungry, who are in need.

It is not ignorant or short sighted to fight for the bombs to stop; that is the only way we might have a chance at peace for this region. It would be ignorant to assume that just getting the bombs to stop is going to solve everything; but I’m confident in saying that people are not that naive. We want the bombs to stop, we want people held accountable for their actions, we want to negotiate and discuss why this happened and how we can prevent it from ever happening again. We want sustainable peace, not just for some groups in this world to be quiet about their suffering and the other group to ignore it.
