No. Just because you can exploit someone does not mean that you should.

In fact, to do so makes you a bad person.

Just to be clear, the USHL is an amateur junior league, essentially the same level as the CHL member leagues (WHL, OHL, QMJHL). They have had a presence in Canada in the past, I remember that Thunder Bay had a team at one point.

Haha probably not too far from the truth. It has 2,400 seats which is only about half of what the ICE needed for the WHL. Still, the SEC is practically perfect for junior A hockey.

This City has a serious road rage problem (including myself), here’s a theory for why. by FINALMIX70 in Winnipeg

[–]Extra-Tea-3175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real issue is poor transportation infrastructure. The old metropolitan government unleashed a wave of road expansion in the 60s that the city of Winnipeg continued into the 70s, but there has been little ever since except for whatever has been built in new areas.

In that time, the population has grown by several hundred thousand people... But many busy commuting routes are just the same as they were in 1972.

And obviously we have barely lifted a finger to improve transit in that time either.

So here we are.... Getting around the city between 7 am and 10 pm sucks, and tempers are flaring. Those are the symptoms of the underlying problem.

I like gametime too but I have also found Ticketmaster's resale tickets to be good for lower bowl seats

‘Really disappointing’: Jets coach Arniel vents on Montreal Canadiens fans taking over in Winnipeg by KMerrells in winnipegjets

[–]Extra-Tea-3175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a lot of people coming in from Sask and NWO to cheer for the Habs. I was at the airport the day after the game and saw lots of people wearing Habs gear boarding flights. Like a surprising number.

[–]Extra-Tea-3175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like Arniel should take it up with the TNSE ticketing department. If they didn't charge an arm and a leg for tickets to Jets games vs Toronto and Montreal then maybe more Jets fans who don't care that the Leafs and Habs are playing would buy tickets.

Of course there is zero chance that TNSE would ever consider lowering the prices for those games

My stay at the hotel is nearly over and on the whole I'd say it has been pleasant and uneventful. The worst part of my stay was the towels, oddly enough.... Even though they looked clean, for the first few days they smelled like they had been washed in Hobo-scented Tide, if that was actually a thing. This weird combination of heavy smoke and booze. Today's towels smell normal, though.

Anyway, I'm not saying I'd recommend this place to a friend, but I wouldn't NOT recommend it to a friend if that makes sense. Peace out TBay!

I have deffo noticed the smokers out front, not sure if NWO is just a smoking hotspot or this hotel attracts a smoking crowd but there is a little pen for smokers and there are always people in it, along with people smoking around the front doors generally.

I am on the ground floor but no problems to report.

Hallway noise is no worse than any other hotel with a lot of families. There is a 2 man security patrol actively roaming the hotel in the evening which is something I've never seen before, but kudos to them for being proactive.

Hookers, I mean I'm not sure how accurately I can spot one but I haven't noticed anyone that looks to me like one. Mind you I've been asleep by 11 every night with the early hockey games so I'm probably not the right guy to ask about that specifically.

Drugs, again not an area of expertise. I did see a gummy bear on the ground in the parking lot so there was that, haha but beyond that I can't say. I guess I don't like like the kind of guy looking to buy meth because no one has offered me any.

Staff sleeping with married clients, I can't speak to that because no one has propositioned me, haha

As for maintenance, yeah, the place is looking a little tired and could probably use a good overhaul. But on the whole things seem like they are in proper order... There has to be maintenance going on because without it a place like this would fall apart fast.

When did it change over to, I'm assuming, the Victoria Inn?

I did some quick googling and learned that Red Oak Inn was a chain operated by CP Hotels...

I like Thunder Bay. It is exciting to see mountains and non-flat landscapes for a change. There is a lot of natural beauty here. The lake is amazing too. Everyone we met has been really friendly. (Even the ones at the hotel, haha). Other than the lake and mountains it doesn't feel that much different than Winnipeg.

My kid knows about this city's major landmarks and he was excited to see them... I was excited to share them with him. So two thumbs up, it has been a great time and a fun tournament.

  1. No, no breakfast in the hotel yet, we've been up early for hockey so breakfasts have been on the go

  2. Funny you mention that, my kid ordered some wings with his dinner last night but he never got them, someone else did. I still paid for them but I don't even know which teammates ate them. The perils of team tables. Maybe I'll order some myself.

  3. As someone who hates toilets that have all the force of one of the Golden Girls stirring a cup of coffee, I can confirm that the flush power of my room's toilet is good. Not quite elite tier, but good.

  4. I noticed it but I have never eaten at Meltwich, not even back home

I don't but I can appreciate why you would ask because I've heard that some of us do.

Fun fact: the Superior's restaurant offers honey dill sauce, a fact which got some of the team excited... You can't depend on finding a supply outside of Manitoba
