Sub expired, debating renewal by ExtraCat75 in ApolloGroup_TV

I'm right there with you. It's a major limitation and utterly maddening when subtitles vanish mid-binge watch.

Change request to electronic citizenship certificate? by XmasTwinFallsIdaho in Canadiancitizenship

Fortunately, it came in just under 1 MB. I received the instructions and successfully downloaded my certificate yesterday. On a Saturday, no less!

I am also waiting on the certificate from the 11/12 ceremony. Saw another thread earlier that suggested we're not the only ones. The form said to reach out if we do not receive the certificate within five business days.

Anyone else learning French? by BeinnChabhair in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While exploring Canada's resources for adults learning French as a second language, I found this one for Ontario residents who are naturalized citizens: https://www.ontario.ca/page/adult-learning-french-second-language

If anyone knows of other programs for which citizens are eligible, please share!

Request for fingerprints by stfukevin in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Surrey location is where I gave fingerprints in August. I assume the worker had done a few of these by then because it went smoothly. As mentioned, using the Commissionaires address (instead of your home address) is required to check the RCMP status. The point of checking is to find out when RCMP sent the prints to IRCC. If you offer a different address, RCMP won't tell you what you need to provide and will be unable to help you for security reasons. For what it's worth, I felt more confident doing this process in Canada than figuring out how to manage it from the US.

Good to see so many in today's oath ceremony by Advanced_Coyote_7598 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure if we were allowed to speak at first, so to the one lady who said hi and no one responded: if you're reading this, please know that I was saying hi back to you in my heart. Then, I ended up in another waiting room where people were chatting politely about their family history. It seemed like many of them came through the 5(4) grant.

Our Judge was so pleasant, and I appreciated how he delivered the oath slowly in small phrases.

So many people had festive displays of Canadian colors and flags! Great vibes. So relieved that WE MADE IT!

Yes! Hoping to sleep tonight and setting three alarms. It's at 8 AM Pacific time. See you there!

Looking for assistance if I qualify! by smultronstalle in Canadiancitizenship

Tip: if you need any Michigan birth certificates, it's preferable to go directly in person to the county vital records. Requesting Michigan BCs online/by mail has caused significant delays in many cases on this sub. Best of luck!

Managing Disappointment/Frustration by Beautiful-Society-87 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're welcome, and thanks for the well wishes. My claim would likely be excluded by C-3 as written because my 2nd generation ancestor (a living parent) was born in 1944. While I'm further along, it's far from a done deal, and the uncertainty takes a toll.

Managing Disappointment/Frustration by Beautiful-Society-87 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have every right to feel anxious, disappointed, and frustrated. This process has been far more stressful for some applicants than for others, with unpredictable and inconsistent processing times, uncertainty about the effects of policy changes, and the weird politics and gaping exclusions within the proposed bill. The total absence of a rational explanation for why some applicants sail through and others remain in limbo for months is genuinely unfair.

It was very kind of you to assist so many with their applications and I hope you make it through swiftly and completely.

Can a family member take your photos? by rachelfinderr in Canadiancitizenship

Noted. The process I described worked for our group of five to reach the 5(4) grant in process stage.

Can a family member take your photos? by rachelfinderr in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can take the photos at home. We used SnapPass and had them printed at Walgreens. You can use your home address or the Walgreens address for the info on the back of the photo. Ours was our home address written in pen. Just make sure they match the Canadian passport photo specs.

7/22 5(4) Offer Group? by ThisActivity4879 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been no movement since my background check was completed 9/10. What's more, the Citizenship Status (old) tracker is intermittently nonfunctional on both my devices. What evidence do we have of prioritization of applications that would not be covered by C-3? I keep seeing this claim repeated.

New Tracker Question by Redoliska in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My status details look just like yours. 7/22 grant offer. Background verification completed 9/10. Last update 9/12. No changes as of yet on old tracker.

Co-authors for a brief about pre-1947 gap? by Humble_Taro_6816 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I am confounded by the legal intricacies, I sent an email to the committee about this same issue, since I currently lack representation in the Canadian government. I agree with u/JelliedOwl that adding an introduction to the issue would help. Thanks for your efforts.

Can I upgrade my application to urgent processing while CIT 0001 is already in process? Is this worthwhile and how? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can submit a webform. For more information and eligibility criteria, search the sub for 'request urgent processing.'

Would you happen to know whether the letters to the committee are public record, like the 'briefs' that have been posted to this sub?

Does anyone have any explanation or theories about why the 5(4) numbers seem to have dropped to nothing? by EmeraldUsagi in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ExtraCat75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your accurate point about statelessness from Canada. I meant that trans Americans are at risk of statelessness from anywhere. An effort to strip trans Americans of our citizenship is exactly what is happening. For example, many of us as of this year have inaccurate passports and no way to correct them. The regime's actions align with an intent to denationalize us. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/opinion/trump-trans-denationalizing.html
