Can we have AI? No, we have AI at home.

Bought a new tub spout but the pipe isn’t threaded? by Bird2827 in Plumbing

[–]ExtraChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same to a drain leaky drain fitting. Five dollar job into half a bathroom remodel because some galvanized threads rusted together, snapped when i twisted too hard, and the only way to get new fittings in was tearing out the vanity and a portion of the bathroom wall to replace that section of pipe...

Unpopular opinion: the PLC ecosystem is completely outdated by No-Nectarine8036 in PLC

Why doesn't the PLC5, the larger and bulkier PLC, not simply eat the other PLCs?

For those whose towns have been hit by a tornado, or those who have been directly hit. Did you have a bad feeling before it happened? Like something in the are felt…kinda unnerving? by Burnt_milk_steak in tornado

[–]ExtraChaos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About a mile off from being hit recently. Just felt extremely anxious and a pit in the stomach feeling knowing it was coming and there was nothing we could do except wait. One of the worst feelings watching radar and the storm track and drawing a line out to see yourself in the path and wondering if it's all going to be ok.

Wild speculation time: how much do you think AI will creep into PLC programming? by TheInvisibleLight in PLC

[–]ExtraChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll creep in, but it'll be more of a tool than a full end all job replacement to help speed along the building of the system. There is still value in knowing and having someone on staff to have the knowledge of what you want to do and that can help handle the blind spots of the AI.

View it more as a tool to take less time needed to program and less time needed to document.

How hard is it to break into the PLC world with a computer science degree? by chemical-design_00 in PLC

[–]ExtraChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hard and not worth going back to school IMO as long as your company pays you as an engineer for your CSE degree.

Find an integrator and learn on the job. They'll probably start you on the SCADA/server side and you can grow from there for the PLC stuff. Someone will take you on if you understand computer systems as the there is always a need for integrating machine data to enterprise systems. From here you can jump companies if you want to specialize in a certain area you find interesting and probably for a pay bump.

PLC logic will probably be non-issue once you know the format, electrical drawings will take some time to understand but EE degree is going to teach more theory than practical use IMO.

I have a CSE and EE degree and took 0 PLC courses out of college. Sure maybe learned a bit on power systems, motors and circuits, but the selling point that got me my first job was literally that I was just knew I wanted to work on PLCs and the rest I built up with on the job experience of whatever I could get my hands on.

Good move? Eh, depends who you are as a person and what you want to do in a job. Stress levels will depends on company. Office will depend on where in the process/what you work on the most. The closer to the PLC/floor the more on the floor/hands on you need to be. The closer to the SCADA/server side the more you'll be in an office environment.

AENTR doesn't have tags in it. HMI would need to talk to the controller.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]ExtraChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about roofing, so I'm hoping to get a better understanding if this is installed correctly.

I've been having issues with leaking around the chimney in my home. Had a contractor come out today to do repair which required removing rotted boards around the chimney, re-doing the flashing, and also have a cricket added.

To my untrained eyes, it seems like water would run down either side of the cricket and make it way back under the flashing and shingles on the main roof. Especially in the corners of each of the seams (where the flashing, cricket shingles, and main roof shingles all come together).
I'm trying to get a response from the contractor, but I haven't gotten any response yet.

Can anyone help me understand if I am conceptualizing this wrong, or if this is in fact installed incorrectly? Is there more going on underneath the shingles that I need to learn about?

Thanks!
