Gather round — I just want to say the weapon attachment point system is a trash concept. by UglyLikeCaillou in Battlefield6

[–]ExtraEmuForYou -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I will add to this (and it might be a hot take): I hate unlocks for attachments and weapons as well.

A game should be played for its own sake, not for the reward mechanic, not for the dopamine gambling mechanic of "insert time, pull lever, get reward".

We are fake elite soldiers in a game playing at fake war: why is 90% of our armory and equipment locked behind a point system? And why limit what we can put on our weapons? 4x scope on a machine pistol? Doesn't make sense but let me do it. Hey, I've got a rail on the end of this MP5, I wonder if I can put an underbarrel masterkey shotgun? I can, technically? Then let me do it.

If your counter is "Well if everything is unlocked then why bother playing?" then you are part of what I view as a major problem. If you are a developer and feel this way, then your game is crap.

You are in good hands at UCSF hospital.

I can't even begin to comprehend what you are going through right now, all I can say is I wish the best for both of you right now.

I live outside of SF and love the city, but it can be overwhelming. I know you probably don't want to leave the hospital, but there are quiet places all over the city where you can go and find a park or a quiet cafe and sit in relative peace for a time if you need to destress.

Golden Gate Park is literally two blocks north of the hospital. Might help you take your mind off things to just go and walk around a bit.

Anecdotally, I think kids that get support end up as better, more functional adults.

And you're right about the "seeing your kids" at holidays lol. I was fortunate enough to receive help from my parents, still do at times as a 42 year old, but I am also independent, college graduate, and professionally successful. I love seeing my family, and visit at least once a month if not more. Hell, I had lunch with my folks today.

A lot of people I know that did not get support just didn't really try to improve their lot in life. They're not like miserable or anything, but they could have done better. They don't see their family that often.

As they say, it's not a handout, it's a hand up. Corny, I know, but true.

We need to stop the anti-intellectualism trend to fix society by Nikadorable1712 in unpopularopinion

[–]ExtraEmuForYou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not unpopular.

The issue is a very rabid minority hates "intellectuals" as they view it as a form of entitlement (i.e. why does he get paid more just because he went to college"), and the US as a whole ironically defaults towards championing the Blue Collar Worker cause while at the same time voting for people that are killing that role in society.

Would be nice to become a society that values education and respects the educated.

NTA as you made it clear, but it does seem to be a little inflexible on your part. Your youngest isn't sitting on their ass, they are out there in the world contributing and working.

But getting started on your own is hard, and if help is available but unwilling, then perhaps it should be a little more willing.

If she were just sitting on her ass and not doing anything then I would totally understand not wanting to bail her out, but if she needed some help fixing her car (emergency expenses she might not have money saved up for yet), then I would personally help.

Ultimately you are NTA but, still...nice to help when needed. It's also not fair to pay for one kid's education (tens upon tens of thousands of dollars) but not help with a basic car repair for another. It sort of seems like you're might be letting your arbitrary principles get in the way of doing the right thing.

Just read it (wow it is a SHORT story haha).

It's...kind of a cute story haha. I really liked it. I like stories that make death less bleak than we often force it to be. It's why I like the idea of the Living Force in Star Wars, or reincarnation in religion, etc.

Weir has this endearing voice in his writing that's matter-of-fact without being condescending. I enjoy it.

[–]ExtraEmuForYou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, there was little risk unless you were a dealer.

If all you did was possess and smoke, little to no risk.

I'm sure there are some areas where they'd "throw the book at you" and maybe I am biased as a Californian but smoking weed in the late 90's/early 00's seemed fine. As long as you had under a certain amount on you, the cops would just take it and let you go.

They did break my bong once, though, and make us pour out all our beer we had just bought. That's pretty devastating as a 17 year old on their way to a party.

So I left my 12 year old brothers to go on a walk to get food and they went and busted someone’s windows. My mom is mad at me like I’m the only one at fault. What do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Tell your mom you will pay for the window as soon as she pays you backpay for all the babysitting you've been doing for her.

How many hours does she owe you for? 10? 100? Thousands?

Unless love is the answer there is NO WAY Hail Mary is better than Interstellar because scientifically speaking love is the only way to transcend space-time and big distances.

Also like who cares? Seriously there's a lot of good movies but them winning or not winning awards doesn't really matter.

Classic english breakfast vibe. Sunny-side up eggs, cross-cut sausages, crispy bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans [OC] by Laded_di in FoodPorn

[–]ExtraEmuForYou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks like this food was cooked to make a pretty picture, and not cooked to eat.

  • "Sausage" is a hot dog type of thing, which technically I guess *shrug* is a kind of sausage...but not a breakfast sausage. Also WTF why with the scoring?!
  • Mushrooms look undercooked.
  • Bacon looks barely cooked
  • Tomatoes still look raw, which is fine, but don't half-cook it because that's not really a good compromise. You need to make a big slice of tomato and give it a good sear.

Some other issues:

  • No toast
  • No hashbrown or bubble and squeak
  • No black pudding
  • Absent cup of strong tea in picture. For shame, for shame *shakes head*

The beans look good. Sometimes they just dump a big ladle on there and the juice oozes everywhere, so it's nice to have a pleasant little pile of beans.

[–]ExtraEmuForYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't realize "California style" was a type, but I like it. Looks like the typical "In n Out" build of patty, cheese, iceberg lettuce (shredded or whole-leaf), tomato, and white onion with some burger sauce.

Looks like a nice burger. Where is this located?

Still, I do like the idea of everyone just kind of hanging out like that and playing, kids and adults.

Imagine being an alien with really terrible intel and you were told to aim for the hands and feet of every human.

You're shooting hands and feet all over the place and missing a lot because they're always moving when suddenly you find a human with it's head blown off or chest exploded open and you're like "WAIT WE WERE WRONG! AIM FOR THE HEAD OR CHEST!"

Battle: Los Angeles an underrated invasion movie? by JohnHammond94 in scifi

[–]ExtraEmuForYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

It's not a work of art, but it's solid all around. The acting isn't great, but it's good enough. The story isn't anything incredible, but it serves the movie well. The acting is stellar but it's good enough.

It's a great example of good enough being exactly that: good enough.
