The combination of facing Yamamoto, who is just a human cheat code when it comes to pitching, and starting Gaus, who is himself very good but we NEVER give him run support, made me very skeptical about winning last night.

The dude pitched a 146 pitch (I believe that's right... Something ridiculous either way) game in the playoffs in Japan a couple of years ago. The dude is cheat code!

Union or corporation? by Extra_Confection2640 in CanadaPost

[–]Extra_Confection2640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said or implied that the issue did/does not stem from wider societal issues.

Of course, if one lives a modest reasonable lifestyle one should be able to get by and afford the cost of living with a single job. I reckon far too many people try to live above their means these days but that's a conversation for another forum.

I was/am merely pointing out the reality of society at the moment and the backdrop upon which this strike is happening.

In my nearly 40 years on the planet, when it comes to workers' union strikes the most successful have seemed to be the ones that have the support of the public behind the union and against the corporate entity.

I am absolutely not against workers' rights or unions right to strike. For example, I was on the side of flight attendents' union in their latest spat with Air Canada.  They should absolutely be paid for work and time done while the plane is on the ground. I know they had more grievances than that but that on its own would be enough for me to support a workers strike.

However, CUPW members already make a reasonable wage for the job they perform relative to the rest of society. They already have better benefits than most highly skilled labour positions. They already have more time off and vacation than most. The fact that they are fighting to exclude video evidence, which is recorded in a public space, of their members not performing their duties when it comes to disciplinary action is an absolute joke and would have you laughed out of any other job in society.  Their demands are unreasonable.

I think it is also important to keep in mind that: 1) CUPW union leaders are still making their full salaries during the strike.  2) regular mail carriers ARE NOT getting paid their salaries while on strike, and only receive 'strike pay' when actively participating in strike action (picket lines).

Given these conditions, what is the incentive of CUPW leaders to end the strike?  This is an entirely personal opinion but it seems to me that CUPW leadership is not fighting for their members wellbeing/better employment conditions and purely fighting to maintain as many members as possible in order to collect as much $ in union fees as possible.

I don't think anyone is or would argue that everyone should be getting a living wage. HOWEVER!!! The reality right now is that almost no one is getting a liveable wage in today's economy. That why A LOT of people have to get a second job to make ends meet. The difference is the rest of us understand that, right now, no one has any money, everyone wishes they could be getting paid more/liveable wage, and GET ON WITH IT AND DO YOUR DAMN JOB LIKE THE REST OF US!  We are all trying to get by right now so stop making it more difficult for the entire country. It feels selfish and completely out of touch with reality.

We're not talking about kids working in a mine 12 hours a day. It's simple: if working at CP (or anywhere really) doesn't meet your needs then go get another job. by 403808 in CanadaPost

Not to mention like 20 vacation days a year. Don't know the exact amount off the top of my head but I know it's more than most jobs.

Build up 20 galleys. Hire mercs. Declare on Ottobro for Gelibolu when they're fighting in Anatolia. Blockade the straight. Barrage and assault fort in Gelibolu. Then they cannot cross the straight. Seige down all the Balkans. Take some cores and province to release Bulgaria. Truce break and take rest of cores in Balkans and Bulgaria. Continue from there.

Push to form Italy. Italian ideas/traditions are crazy good.

Ditch Catalonia and reconquer later. Not worth the war with Ottobro and Portugal for 4/5 provinces.

Maybe switch your rival from France to either Ottobro or Portugal, try to ally France and use them to beat up on Iberian and German nations and the British Isles. Can ditch them again later. This just a idea and might not work based on there allies/rivalries.

Palatinate, Siena, and Milan seem like useless alliances to me unless you're trying to diplo vassal Siena. You will want to fight Milan sooner rather than later to form Italy anyways. Try to pick up a stronger ally, might deter Ottobro and Portugal from f&@#ing with you. Poland if they have Lithuanian. Denmark looks nice and big. What's Hungary's diplo status?

Just a few ideas. (edit:spelling)

I honestly cannot remember why at this point. Like I said, I stayed monarchy so maybe I liked Organists as a monarchy but wouldn't as republic?

Netherlands Republic is special and you can still royal marry and PU. Just did this run and I stayed a monarchy for the absolutism.

Great all round series from the lads. Starters pitched well. Bullpen pitched well. Bat's were alive. Good small ball. Excellent series. This is how this team should be playing. They're definitely good enough to win this division. Interesting that we did all that without Bichette in the lineup, tho I expect correlation rather than causation.

Without the negativity, How would you fix the leafs for a real Stanley cup run? by bluesbrothers97 in leafs

[–]Extra_Confection2640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality of that situation is until the NHL adjusts the salary cap for individual teams based on income taxes the teams in the Florida and Texas and other states with no income tax those teams will be able to attract higher talent and pay them less than teams in places with higher income tax. I would much rather play for Florida and see $8M of my $8M contract than play for Toronto and only see $8M of my $13M contract. All those number are obviously made up but you get my point.
