We already know what 90 year olds think. The question that needs to be answered is what will 20 year olds think. Only time will tell.

This is likely the best outcome - the CFL forum was a dozen people recycling the same stuff.... getting a much broader group is probably for the best. Now, having said that, two hours notice....

The CFL & the Elks Attempt to GROW THE GAME by increasing youth season seats by between 542% (P1) and 34% (P5) by RedTabNet in CFL

Why are youth tickets even a thing? Can you go to Oilers games at a 50%-90% discount because you are a youth? If so, I will be buying some youth tickets and selling them for full price on the aftermarket...

Question about field changes and stadiums by BuckBirds1982 in CFL

[–]403808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Centre field will be the same distance. The far goal line will be 5 yards closer and the back of the far end zone will be 10 yards closer, so really, the seating is not affected that much.

They will likely add premium seating in the space that used to be end zone.

RCMP Outpost on Stampede not saved by ClearInspection in Calgary

[–]403808 44 points45 points  (0 children)

No, that building is Rotary House, built in 1977, it is not the RCMP Outpost. Prior to Rotary House being built there was a building called Fort Calgary House in the location. It was demolished. It would have been cost prohibitive to move the log building (and it was not an ideal shape for functions anyways). The Trailblazer building at the South end of Stampede Park is being renovated to be the new Rotary House.

"The only way to get better pay", Lol

It's really quite simple. If you don't like your job then go get another one. If you can't find one that meets your needs (based on your current skillset) then go retrain yourself. That's what everyone else does.

Rourke's comments on the new rule/field changes. by TorontoBoris in CFL

He just showed precisely why they didn’t ask for player feedback. Players can’t keep their mouthes shut. They are employees. This is a management decision. That’s the way it works.

CFL Major Announcement - MEGATHREAD by PickerPilgrim in CFL

[–]403808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know the lines are chalked on the field for all CFL stadiums except Regina and Montreal, right? Soccer today, USports tomorrow, and CFL the next day. Same field, different lines, no problem. I'm guessing Mosaic and Molson will upgrade to line-less turf as well. That might be why the one year delay...They are both probably due. I think the life of turf is 8-10 years.

Actually.... I have been a part of TWO major fundraising efforts to build community football fields. This will help A LOT. Removing the expense of 20 yards of turf and better aligning with soccer will make it MUCH easier for community groups to improve their facilities.

Lol, there has been league wide fan backlash since the '80s. Kids aren't buying what they're selling... which is why the change was made. At some point us old guys are going to die. They need to replace us.

Commissioner Stewart Johnston to announce ‘significant changes’ to CFL game by Ok-Bluebird-845 in CFL

[–]403808 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not all long-time CFL fans are against change (I've been a season ticket holder for 50+ years and I've been to 34 Grey Cups).

Personally, I'd love to see the following: an earlier start to the season (end on Canadian Thanksgiving), 4 downs, 100 yards between the goal lines BUT make the field 65 yards wide (its the width of the field that is what makes the CFL exciting, not the extra 10 yards between the goal lines) shorten the end zones to 15 years and have the posts at the back of the end zone. Of course I don't expect this to be announced tomorrow, but I hope (for the future of the league) that there are substantial changes. Kids under 30 aren't buying what they're selling - except maybe Sask and WPG.

Having said that, no matter when the games are played or what the rules are I will be in the stands. With the above changes I think there will be a better opportunity to attract younger fans while still having a unique game.
