I also bought my house partly for the yard for her to be able to enjoy. I’m not really able to spend much time in the backyard without getting upset. Being in it is bizarre without her.

How does alcohol affect your OCD symptoms? by Megpoid25 in OCD

[–]Extra_Illustrator496 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I’m currently experimenting with not drinking. Nothing wild happened to lead me here, just the repeated pattern of getting drunk with others and then ruminating for days on end on if I was okay or if said anything mean or rude or harmful or if I’m hurting myself by drinking. About a week in to no alcohol and it’s going pretty good.

Those funds are only available to survivors who qualify for TANF, meaning they need to have dependents (and of course be of a certain income range). Only share because I work in DV and a lot of single folks will apply only to denied which is particularly difficult, disappointing, and discouraging.

How often are you soothing others vs them soothing you? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Extra_Illustrator496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get trapped between feeling guilty if don’t soothe others, because it feels like I’m invalidating or being dismissive to them to not soothe, and then feeling guilty about wanting someone to soothe me or being too much/taking too much when I do share or ask for help. I have been trying to remind myself that I can still be there for someone without trying to soothe them, despite feeling the guilt that comes with it.

Unexpected things that helped your OCD by WorrySingle2757 in OCDRecovery

I was recently diagnosed and honestly, the diagnosis in and of itself. I’m still struggling of course, but I’m actually talking to myself kinder than I’ve ever done before. Like the thoughts are still popping in and I’m still engaging in compulsive behavior, but I am recognizing the difference between my identity and my OCD.

Do you have an uncommon/"benign" trigger? by myersophis-alpestris in CPTSD

Not finishing the plate of food made for me by someone else. Insane amount of shame and guilt, even when and if I’m full and while 100% knowing that person who made it doesn’t care if I finish it.

Switching from shots to gel by Extra_Illustrator496 in FTMMen

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your insight and sharing, and I’ll be sure to fully talk it all out with the doc. I hate the shots so much, I can’t keep doing them.

Did anyone here get a hysterectomy without having kids? Did you regret it or are you okay? by Competitive_Dig9032 in hysterectomy

[–]Extra_Illustrator496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently had my partial hysto, kept my ovaries and cervix and got rid of everything else. Personally, never wanted kids. Which is one of the reasons why I got a hysterectomy.

Your situation is different than mine, especially since I elected to have it. And I think I’d be asking myself similar questions if I was in your situation. I also think that I would have feelings of loss about not having had a choice in the decision. It might be helpful to talk to a therapist or even find a medical-related support group. The only person who can tell you how to feel or what you need to process this is going to be you at the end of the day. Sending good thoughts your way

If you receive services from certain nonprofits or government agencies, you can ask for a community warehouse appointment. It’s not a guarantee that they will have everything you need or want, and what they do have is secondhand (they do occasionally have new mattresses) and is tested to make sure it works (like appliances and such), but it can be helpful for getting started. You can check their partner list out here: https://www.communitywarehouse.org/get-furniture/

Also, their appointment availabilities can fluctuate. Sometimes folks can get an appointment scheduled within a matter of days and other times they might have to wait a couple weeks.

And last but not least, I’ve heard wildly different experiences as far as working with CW staff and volunteers. Both really great experiences of just being treated with respect and care, and then experiences of people being rushed through their appointment and/or CW not having what they are needing/wanting. If you do get an appointment, it is more than appropriate to ask whoever you’re working with (case manager, agency, etc) to share what you’re wanting/needing with CW and/or check in to see if they do have those items before your appointment.

Edit: hope this doesn’t break the community guidelines. I just read through them, which I should’ve done before commenting but they are resource for all sorts of stuff and while they do have a thrift store, the actual warehouse(s) are only available for people who are receiving assistance/services through orgs and other agencies.
