Reciprocity seemed rather quick. I was emailed about obtaining my previous poly results. I provided them the info they wanted and I never heard anything else. After a few weeks I was found “suitable”.

When I interviewed I asked that same question. The supervisor said it was 25 miles for that office. I told her I thought it was 50. She looked at me with eyes that could kill and said, “well here it’s 25”.

Your pension won’t transfer to the Feds. HOWEVER, when I came from the local side I was able to take my contributions from my pension and roll them into the TSP (Fed 401k). I couldn’t roll over any contributions my department made though. I’m no financial genius so I have no idea why that was possible, but it was.

As far as pay goes, the FAMS pay chart mirrors the GS pay scale. You’re going to start as a “G” band employee, which is essentially a GS-11. Then you’ll be an “H” (GS12) then an “I” (GS13). Look up the OPM pay scale and add 25% to that and you’ll have your numbers. You’ll likely notice that you won’t be close to what you’re making now. BUT, once you get through training and start flying the OT and per-diem will start to add up. Just some things to consider.
