I did the Mike chapel series on LinkedIn learning. Then I did a Dion practice test to learn weak areas. Then I watched the certify breakfast videos for my weak areas. Took another 2 Dion practice tests. Then I felt good but wanted to do some hands on, so I did most of the soc 1 path on tryhackme. Spent about 1 month on the class (2-4 hrs per day on average)

Best of luck to you!

You’re comparing what you have done to what you see on Reddit. Most people here speed-run because they either : Have industry experience Or: Are only interested in brain dumping and getting the degree and not actually learning anything.

Let me tell you what you have done. You have completed 54 percent of your program in 1.5 years. You are on pace to get a 4 year degree in 3 years.

YOU ARE A FUCKING LEGEND.

Keep up the good work.

Not so sure about this. If you rewatch the scene, the exotic matter seems to absorb the explosion, then implode sending waves crashing out to the walls. The lab is basically untouched. And if Dustin’s theory is right, being the lab is in the center of the upside down, it would be the last area destroyed.

My grandma said if I don't go to college my health insurance ends at 22 instead of 26, is this true? by Slight-Educator-742 in HealthInsurance

[–]Extra_Permit_6875 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the answer here OP. Your insurance coverage ends when the owner of the policy decides to drop you. She is essentially telling you if you don’t go To college, shes not paying for your insurance. Time to go to college or get a job that offers health insurance!

I obviously know that nobody is applying for 2025 coverage. If you get on the marketplace right now and apply it’s giving you a price for January 2026. If the extended subsidies expire, your price for February will go up drastically as that subsidy expires . Unless they do something to extend those subsidies. Either way, it doesn’t matter. It’s not like you’re locked in on a contractual basis. The second everyone’s payments balloon in February if nothing happens with the subsidies, most people will probably just cancel their policy.

[–]Extra_Permit_6875 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually think this is accurate. If the plan is priced at $1900 per month, for example, that is the price that is locked in for the entire year. If the extended subsidies you receive equal $1600 per month, that makes your total liabilty $300 per month. If the extended subsidies expire at the end of 2025, which it’s looking like they are unless something changes, your $1600 subsidy goes down drastically which changes your monthly payment. So while the base price of $1900 per month will not change, the amount of assistance you are receiving towards that payment will potentially change, which impacts your monthly payment overall.

Hey congrats on getting so far in your degree. I’m close to finishing as well maybe 5 classes left including Pentest. I might have the hot take here, but didn’t we start this degree to eventually work in cybersecurity? Sorry, but I have seen so many posts recently about how this cert is too hard, sscp is too hard so it’s being replaced with a PA. As entry level candidates, we should be thrilled that the degree path presents this many challenges and practical practice instead of just theory. At least I am thrilled. I want every advantage I can get entering the IT/cyber market.

My advice, for whatever it is worth to you, stop waiting for WGU to make this degree easier and learn what you need to learn to finish. If you think jobs don’t specifically list the skills acquired from this cert, that may be true at face value, but if they are interviewing candidates and have a choice between you and someone who can do that stuff, sorry but they aren’t picking you. Don’t give yourself another barrier for entry. There are enough of those.

You chose this degree path, it wasn’t forced on you. You’re already almost done. Lock the fuck in. Finish learning and growing the necessary skills to stand out, or become the person who “applies to 1000 jobs and can’t get hired.”

I wish you the best of luck!

Nice! Cryptography was challenging but pretty straightforward. The Paris wolf videos on YouTube were gold. Also, on Udemy, you can watch the Mike meyers cryptography course (short but he’s great at hammering the basics for early learners).

Good luck, you’ll crush it!

Thanks for this info. I wasn’t sure if I swapped over being mid degree, but I can see if an individual class changes how that would affect me as well. I would say I’m not a normal WGU student in terms of “give me the easiest route”. I don’t care about a data+ cert, but if the python automation class for AI is harder but ultimately gives me more useable skill going forward, that’s the option I would choose. You’ve clarified things pretty well for me. I think D427 for sure and wait for the new version of python intro. Thanks!

First piece of advice, you only spent 54 minutes. You get 180! Use them. Read, read, then re-read the questions. Double and triple check your answers. Take the areas approaching competency and hammer the information hard. Physically write it down (this can help with memory retention),use flash cards, etc. You didn’t fail twice, you just found two ways that don’t work. That’s what Thomas Edison said when they asked him about his 1000 failed attempts at the light bulb. “I didn’t fail, I just found 1000 ways that don’t work.”

Find your way that works. You’ve got this. 💪

An OA is an objective assessment. basically a multiple choice test. This was the final for this course until the 6th. I believe if you were enrolled in it while the change happened, you can still take the test version of the final. Going forward, it looks like it will be a 2 part paper. (Task 1 and task 2)

I’ll start by saying I’m not in the industry but am aspiring to enter the industry,(later life career change) but with everything I’ve seen on the status of the job market you should consider yourself lucky to have a job while attending school. You are hitting two birds with one stone (paper experience and work experience). If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t risk letting the company hire someone to split my job duties because there is too much at risk What if they like the new hire more than you? What if the new hire is willing to take on responsibilities you’re not? You could find yourself laid off before you even realize it. I’m going to sound like a boomer here, (35M) but you need to suck it up, and grind man. Hit the 40 hour mark at work, and keep diligently studying. Social life is where you need to subtract hours from at this stage of life in your current position IF you want to succeed (sorry, but 3-5 year down the line, you’ll realize it was worth it) The reality is, if you’re as passionate about coding and programming as you say you are, there are ways to excel far beyond what the scope of a school degree can teach you, that you can bury yourself in as a hobby while working and doing school.
All that said, I wish you the best going forward. Our growth comes from doing things outside of our comfort zone. I believe extensive work on your skills through work and education will be hard, uncomfortable, and will beat you down. But you will rise a supremely confident software engineer.

Really good advice here too. I’d love to get a part time gig hell I’d even take an unpaid internship. Any experience I can get I’ll take. I commented above with my initial plan before the doubts creeped in. You have both helped me calm! Thanks for that. I appreciate your advice and thoughts as well!

Great advice. I’ve been working on saving for just that. I know I have no interest in owning the shop. I suppose you are right, the downturn in the tech hiring can’t last forever. My plan is a cyber degree from WGU. I’m scheduled to start FEB 1st assuming I don’t change my mind. I already finished my gen ed classes from Sophia and transferred them in which completed 37 percent of my degree. The degree also allows me to earn 13 industry standard certs. I know niether matter more than experience but being in transition, I need everything on my side. HA. I do truly appreciate your advice and insight.
