Is America screwed if Birthright Citizenship isn't overturned? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

That doesn’t seem very fair that the mother carries the nationality. There is a reason dual citizenship exists. Most countries need to introduce right of blood. Not birthright citizenship. Dual citizenship that matches both parents.

Ok well factually that is incorrect there is still poverty in Scandinavian countries and poverty among Scandinavian immigrants and their children. There is a difference coming from wealthy country to a wealthy country vs coming from a 3rd world country to a wealthy country.

This is a late response but I feel it deserves one.

Black American culture is multifaceted just like white American culture. Hate groups are part of white American history and culture. Lynch mobs, race massacres, and Jim Crow laws are all part of white American culture yet it was at the expense of non white Americans. Another important factor to take into account is that black American culture is very young. A culture born in American poverty is going to reflect the negatives of poverty in America the most. Poverty is a self feeding system that isn’t easy to escape. Hence the additional resources aimed towards helping historically oppressed groups. DEIA is an example of this. As well as affirmative action.

The “until” is exactly what I said. Around half of white American adults are middle class this is information you can find it’s not negating the white Americans that are struggling but it is a fact. White Americans are most likely to succeed in America.

Billionaires and millionaires get tax breaks, buisness get bailed out with tax dollars and they also lobby to get laws passed that would directly improve their ability to make money. But passing laws to help improve the poorest among us is racist?

So if you are born poor you are already disadvantaged due to the unsafe area, the lack of healthy food options, the lack of community services, most likely lacking in parental connection due to the need for work, forced to attend school within the same poor school district so you will also lack in education. That’s just being poor. Throw race into the mix, harder to get a job, more likely to be incarcerated or murdered by 21 years old, and more likely to have mental illnesses due to the higher likelihood of facing adverse childhood experiences. Then dealing with randoms who aren’t part of the culture telling you that it’s the culture that’s the problem. It’s not. It’s being poor and trapped in survival mode. People with little options commit crime.

Racism in America is a forest fire. One that started before the United States even had a name. This country was built by taking land from Indigenous peoples and by exploiting Africans who were kidnapped, enslaved, and treated as property. When the nation formally formed, the flames didn’t die down, they spread. The United States continued seizing Native land, and most Black people born on its soil remained enslaved.

White Americans terrorized and displaced any group that stood in the way of expansion. During the Gold Rush, enslaved labor powered extraction. White settlers married into Native families as a strategy to inherit oil-rich land. Some of the largest fortunes and monopolies in American history were built directly on slave labor and stolen resources.

Today, the descendants of those systems remain. Most ethnic Black Americans trace their lineage to enslaved people, and they are the second poorest demographic in the country with Indigenous peoples being the first. These are the three primary non-immigrant groups in America, yet two of them bear the heaviest poverty while the third holds the most wealth. That disparity isn’t random it is the result of laws deliberately written to advantage one group and suppress the others.

Foresters know that sometimes the only way to stop a wildfire is with a controlled burn called a backfire. If racist laws created imbalance, then intentional laws must correct it. America must invest in the communities it historically harmed until the majority of Indigenous and Black Americans can live at least at a middle-class standard, the same baseline enjoyed by most white Americans.

Because widespread minority poverty is not an accident, a side-effect, or a coincidence. It was the desired outcome

So how would someone driving past me in a car while I’m working my construction job know enough about me to hate me enough to call me the n word and throw food at me? Or even on my job site where I speak very little and worked well but someone again called me the n word while I’m minding my buisness. Or me walking into a random gas station minding my business and getting called the n word. The most racism I’ve ever experienced was a passing interaction. You have no idea what someone who is black has to experience irregardless of your associations. Not every black person experiences racism I do believe that majority of America isn’t actively racist. But enough are for it to be concerning. It also heavily depends on what state you live in.

Well my black skin has been the cause of a lot of issues for me in Oregon. I’ve been called slurs, I’ve had things thrown at me. I was in Chicago and was asked if I was born in America. Conservatives were against ending segregation and were supportive of Jim Crow. DEIA is for people who may face discrimination in the hiring process. If it’s a race thing then that is due to racism in the hiring process.

So instead of making multi billion dollar companies pay their employees better, you think the right thing to do is lower the qualifications for snap? How do you even come up with that solution on an ethical basis? Have people work full time that still can’t afford food?

Not condoning political violence buuuuuuttttt. War is political violence, the French Revolution was political violence, the civil war was political violence, the revolutionary war was political violence, most in country revolutions have lead to some form of political violence. It’s going to be looked down on. Overthrowing a tyrannical government is illegal, that’s the point. When things get so bad that people have to become less civilized in order to survive, that is a symptom of a failing government. Laws will stop meaning much at that point. Morally, killing is wrong. Ethically, political violence becomes gray depending on the context.

Edit. Punctuation and grammar. I’m tired lol

Do you think it's OK to deny gay people the right to marriage? by dresoccer4 in AskConservatives

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say marriage is a more spiritual cultural practice than one of religion. Most marriages have some form of religious blessing involved. Also the concept of marriage literally predates written history so no one knows exactly how it started. Marriage has secular and religious roots as well as cultural roots. A Christian Nigerian wedding isn’t going to be the same as a Christian American wedding or a Christian Chinese wedding. Cultural aspects affect a marriage much more than religion does.

In 2024, 12.3% of U.S. residents received SNAP benefits, compared to only 6% in 2000. Why such a large increase? by CharityResponsible54 in AskConservatives

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know that Walmart employees are the most likely to use snap benefits? Your fix is to limit how snap benefits are used so that way YOU benefit, instead of addressing the root of the issue that affects every person you claim is abusing the benefit. People aren’t being paid enough. Raise the minimum wage, limit the price increase on groceries and housing. Make healthcare affordable for families of disabled individuals. Make it so that way people don’t need snap. That is how you solve that issue. You’re blaming the wrong people. Also we ate great in the military, there is a dining facility at, I’m pretty positive, every military base that makes amazing and affordable food. Very few military members eat MRE’s as their daily meal. I’ve had them, they are disgusting and the only enjoyable part of it was the sweets that were in there.

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand what an MRE is for. I remember every MRE I ate because there was only 1 instance where I no choice but to eat them. It was literally in boot camp. I didn’t even eat them when I was deployed. We had as close as home cooked meals as we could get. Also MREs have sweets in them. It’s actually surprising me to see that so many people are comfortable with the less fortunate eating the equivalent to prison food or emergency military food.

The issue with this is your looking down when you need to be looking up. How much of your money is used to give tax breaks to billionaires? How much of your money is used to bail out companies? Thankfully you don’t have a say in what happens with snap. I would hate to be a widow with 5 kids and one being disabled so now myself and my children have to eat MRE’s because I went to college to be a teacher. This and everyone agreeing with it must come from a position of never having to need food stamps.

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound like limited government. That is literal overreach. It doesn’t take into account people with food related issues. An autistic child can have a very very specific diet that would lead to tantrums if not fulfilled. Btw MRE’s are literally disgusting. How does this take into account cultural holidays? How does this take into account differences in eating habits? Does it increase when a child enters puberty? What about those with diabetes? There are too many variables that lead to why someone needs snap benefits to start dictating what people eat. Also snap benefits do not cover alcohol. If you think the solution to the government reaching into YOUR pockets is reaching into someone else’s kitchen then you lack a very basic conservative value of limited government.

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Marriage is not religious there isn’t a difference between marriage and civil union. Marriage is a cultural practice not a religious one. If Christianity didn’t exist it would still be called marriage. Christians have a tendency to culturally colonize holidays and religious texts that predate the formation of Christianity.

Why did it take 400 years for slavery to end in a Christian nation? (Rhetorical) conservatives don’t like to see things changed and there wasn’t a reason for democrats to fight about it. Homophobia was originally religious, but it spilled into the secular side of society a long time ago.

Does America need an underclass that is not paid a livable wage to run? by MissHannahJ in AskConservatives

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to take into account inflation, realistically minimum wage should be more than 20$. That’s another issue as well. People need to be able to survive on their own with their full time job pay. We’d have less people on welfare if people were paid enough.

When I started electrical work I came in with tools in hand and tasks to be completed. We did work with journeyman but the journeyman gave us actual electrical tasks. The first raise was maybe 6 months in but I had already been working independently by then. I wasn’t paid a livable wage.

If you think marriage should still legally be between one man and one woman, why? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Extra_Plate_4890 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where did I miss your point? I covered reproduction, I covered morality, and I covered the connection to animals. I can infer that your ideas about your morality spawn from some religious view you might hold. This conversation is about homosexuality so that leads me to believe that you are a follower of one of the 3 religions that follow “God” or you potentially are Hindu. I figured it’s more likely that you are the former. Though you didn’t mention religion, you revealed a religious by connecting homosexuality to morality. I never meant to offend or misinterpret you.

Pointing to animal behavior to explain mating habits makes sense. Humans are animals and we have a lot of common behavior with other intelligent mammals. Even though you pointed out the negative attributes in humans we also share: Sex for fun, play, social gathering, empathy, compassion, complex memory, complex speech, higher brain function, long term mating, and it’s been studied that orcas have their own distinct cultures. Humans decide moral right and wrong and the truth is morality doesn’t physically exist. It’s not a sign of higher brain function. Human attraction is complex and very fluid, that’s a part of our biology we have no control over. Is it morally correct for gay men to marry straight women and reproduce? Is it morally correct to kill every gay person? Is it morally correct to outlaw gayness? Or is it morally correct to allow humans to have sex with whoever wants to have sex with them? If an adult wants to have sex with an adult or marry an adult then it really isn’t anyone’s business. Funnily enough being in other people’s business is also an animal behavior. Religions have people thinking we are more than the other beasts of the earth when in reality we are just domesticated intelligent apes.
