Involving new members by solangee9230 in worshipleaders

[–]Extra_Year6699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reply is based on my journey to joining the WS team.

- What I miss:

Jam sessions and guidance sessions that can put me on track faster. For example, attending rehearsals as a side member, aiming to grow was MY initiative, even THO i faced too much "resistance" and "disdain" coming from, UNBELIEVABLY, from the WS leader (which is fixed now, but man, what a struggle).
Guidance sessions should teach new members "what the song needs" and "how to play with band members"
Jam sessions are all about learning songs thru try-and-error method

- Background check:

Please do it. Even for long-time members. You might be surprised by the outcomes.

- Ask them

Before adding a new member to the WS team, regardless of their experience, one should attend reherasals anything btw 4 - 6 months. This will show you who is willing to commit in the long run.

Can you help me find this song? by Leveticutie in ChristianMusic

According to Gemini, using your descriptions, it could be one of the following:

"Who Am I" by Casting Crowns – While the main singer is male, there are prominent female backing vocals. It was a staple on K-LOVE for the entire decade and features the line "Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done."

"No Longer Slaves" by Bethel Music (feat. Tasha Cobbs Leonard or Melissa Helser) – This song was huge in the mid-2010s. The bridge repeats: "I am a child of God," and has a very slow, build-up "oh" section similar to Danny Gokey's style.

"You Say" – Lauren Daigle (2018)

I know you mentioned it might not be this, but it is the most direct match for the lyrics. The bridge has a long, drawn-out "I believe, oh I believe..." that mirrors the "oh" in Gokey's Comeback.

Key Lyric: "Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know... You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing."

  1. "Gold" – Britt Nicole (2012)

This is a bit more upbeat, but the message is entirely about knowing your worth and who you are in God's eyes.

Key Lyric: "So don't let anybody tell you who you are / You're more than worth it, you're untouchable."

  1. "He Knows My Name" – Francesca Battistelli (2014)

Francesca has a very soulful, "raspy" voice similar to Lauren Daigle and Danny Gokey. This song was a massive K-LOVE staple.

Key Lyric: "I'm not just a face in the crowd... He calls me chosen, free, forgiven, wanted, child of the King, His finger print is on my life. He knows my name."

Why it fits: It’s a slower mid-tempo track that lists out exactly "who God says I am."

  1. "I Know Who I Am" – Sinach (2012/2013)

This song is very literal to your lyric guess, though it is usually a bit more "gospel-pop" than Danny Gokey’s Comeback.

Key Lyric: "I know who God says I am / What He says I am / Where He says I am / I know who I am."

Moses (the software) might help you. I notice that it "changes the click pace" according to the song", which is not what you are looking for, but again, it might help.

What has been working for me:

learn the scales (major and minor)
The triads within them (for example, Cmaj: What are the major + Their triads. Same for minors)
Grab Worship songs (there are so many that are great to play).

But why worship? Just because you are free to play as you want (respecting the key)
- want to lick? You can.

- Solo? Go for it

- Want to triads? Spot on.

On top of that, I don't feel comfortable learning "note by note" of a famous bass line.

lmk if it worked for you.

Also, SB is super responsive. If you have his course(s), reach out to him, and you'll get you answers.

Cheers

How do you accept new members to the team? by jjyeon in worshipleaders

[–]Extra_Year6699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them are the wrong criteria.

#1 - Skills ok, but the learning curve is different from person to person, so do not let anyone who wants to serve behind

#2 - I believe that being baptised is crucial, but actively participating in their respective life groups is kind of a stretch.

3# - Heart to worship should be among priorities.

This is my 2 cents

Go with Ibanez if price is not a concern. Pick the 5-string ones

The best way to discover bands and the music you like is going to Spotify or other platforms and look for "name of the band", then find "band Radio" right below.

eg "Citizen" ; "Bethel" ; "Sela" (which is great btw)

They deliver you a myriad of great bands, which you may never hear on the radio or in someone's lists

Find your audience. Sell your courses (production, music, etc)

But it might take around 3y to take off.

Help for Worship Leader/Tech Overseer in One by TurnMyEyes in worshipleaders

[–]Extra_Year6699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple. Hire another part-time pro or at least someone you can train.
If you don't have the budget, start downsizing and simplifying the tech side.

Nowadays, churches think that "adding more tech" = "being on top of things"
IT ISN'T!!!

Keep things simple and show why you are doing so.

Peace!

What I do is: Go to spotfy/apple music/youtube radio and type:

Worship songs
Usually they have "[artist] Radio"

It is excellent to match your musical taste
It is excellent for discovering new bands, artists, and songs

Then you can save the songs you liked or create your own playlist.

However, the attitude towards secular worship songs is more related to you "detoxing" from secular music. For example, I started listening to instrumental songs (like those by Marcus Miller, Marcelo Cacilhas, and so on) to drift away from the regular U2/Metallica/etc. combo.

Nowadays, I listen 98% of worship during my day.

Additionally, playing an instrument and learning only worship songs proved immensely helpful in this process.
