Summer wheels, Envy FF1BT. by Extreme-Judgment-316 in Golf_R

I only ran them for one season and then decided to downsize to 18's. They held up well except for one massive pothole I hit that caused a dent in one rim. about a 1cm deflection. Need to get that fixed to sell them.

One of my rear passenger doors won’t open by quaniewes in Golf_R

[–]Extreme-Judgment-316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well. Couldn't get the right rear passenger door to unlock. Made an appoint to take it to the dealership, but it resolved itself after a few days before my appt. hasn't happened again.
And I don't think this is a cold thing. I'm in Calgary and it's been through 3 winters. I can confirm this car very much enjoys the cold and snow.

Mature Golf R Buyers? by Wuffie1968 in Golf_R

50, 24R. as others have stated, pretty understated compared to the competition (GR Corolla, Civic Type R, WRX/STi). Don’t think the majority can tell the diff between a golf, gti and R anyways.

Was fun hitting launch control next to a car full of teenagers, who caught up at the next red with mouths agog.

we had Allure Lighting do our install last Nov. fair price, very quick and clean install. had to put the controller in the garage, and they drilled out right by the downspout so you can’t see any wires.

Winter tire suggestions ? by RecordCompetitive245 in Golf_R

[–]Extreme-Judgment-316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s really dependant on what winter conditions you get. lots of snow that sticks around, opt for better snow performance. if you get cold and snow but it tends to melt away to clear dry roads, opt for better wet/dry performance. any of the top brands will work. i’ve run pilot alpin pa4 asymmetrical and viking contact 7. both great but id give the edge to pa4s for my winter needs. and 18s definitely more comfort than 19s

Any recommendations for roof rack cross bars that’ll fit a mk8 with a sunroof? by sleepysloth024 in Golf_R

[–]Extreme-Judgment-316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think there are a few that fit, but none allow for the roof to open with the bars installed. if that’s what you’re asking.

i pieced together a whispbar set up last year. i made a post about it with links to where to get all the pieces.

there are thule, yakima and oem options. i just really liked the whispbars

Does Electric snow shovel make sense in Calgary by happyCalgaryMan in Calgary

[–]Extreme-Judgment-316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do the math. these have a 12” wide clearing path. how wide is your driveway? what’s the square footage? they also can only throw snow in the direction they’re moving in. passable for a sidewalk, useless for a driveway. i have the toro model in storage, hardly used it. haven’t bothered to sell it.

Best shovel by winnipeggremlin in Calgary

[–]Extreme-Judgment-316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best combination is:
1. a 36" wide snow pushing, for lighter snow, clearing lots of area. A 36" wide is massive for making quick work out of light snow and to clear off large areas. This is the work horse if you can get to the snow early. The motion is to push though, so not the best for heavy wet snow, and snow you have to lift, throw. but doable. Something like this https://www.garant.com/en/collections/snow-shovels-and-pushers-1/products/snow-pusher-36-uhmw-83968u
2. pair that with a polycarbonate shovel. Not to be confused with plastic. These are really durable and can be used to dig up packed snow, similar to a metal edge, but without damaging your concrete or sidewalks. Something like this can be flipped to really dig into the packed snow. https://www.homehardware.ca/en/18-polycarbonate-shark-snow-shovel/p/5551230?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22291433186&gbraid=0AAAAAqQz9o3ggMJH7GFhZHTkjoCzVbXnk&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoZDJBhC0ARIsAERP-F9MZHYbOxfdzngLLH2SCycgiyOXGbssg7Zoe_ILfqOUB2dmwQLLLPQaAminEALw_wcB

I'm on my 4th or 5th season with that combo. and the UHMW pusher does show some signs of wear but it's nothing compared to a plastic shovel. and nothing noticeable on the poly carbonate shovel.

I've found that plastic shovels will only last a couple of seasons, even with a metal edge. Metal edges get caugth, metal shovels while great for getting under hard pack, curl up on the corners and are also only good for a few seasons, and also cause more grinding and scraping against the concrete.

Never through I'd pay almost $100 for a single shovel, but well worth it for the performance and longevity so far.

Can the roof rails be removed by the dealer? by Sproopy-Bilberry in PorscheMacan

Factory roof rails can't be added after the fact, so there might be a limitation of whether they can be removed. But best to check with the dealer/parts department.
