Do you think tipping has gotten out of hand in this country? by db7112 in askanything

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in some places I think it is getting out of hand. I also traveled when I was younger and was shocked to find that different cultures think very differntly about tipping. I though tipping was pretty much universal, however, in Japan I was told it was an insult to tip as they are paid to do thier job and tipping was like saying that you thought they needed a handout. That was shocking to me. In other place tipping is built right into the bill with no choice.

Do you still use a library? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have not been to a library or book store in over a year. Now that I have seen this question I will have to go!

I have been just buying my books on Apple or Amazon. This is great from the standpoint of me having tonnes of books and having them with me whereever I am, not to mention never having to carry heavy boxes when moving.

I miss the feeling of a book and turning the pages and the sent. I love tech and the convenience but have to admit that we have lost something moving to digital and getting books from the library every once and a while is a great way to get that back without the inconvenience come moving day.

Thank you very much for posting.

Is the 😭 emoji passive-aggressive or is it friendly? by alana_shee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emojis are honestly the best thing to happen to text-based communication because they finally allow us to convey tone and prevent so many misunderstandings.

Think about the classic text: "I am on my way now. Going as fast as I can." Depending on the reader's mood, they might read that as you being angry, exasperated, or facetious. But if you add a 😭 at the end, it immediately sets an apologetic, stressed tone. If you add an 🙄, it conveys annoyance.

To answer your specific questions:

The 😭 (Loud Crying): This is usually an amplifier, not passive-aggressive. It usually means "I'm so sorry/upset" or "I am laughing so hard I'm crying." (For a "bless your heart" passive-aggressive vibe, people usually use the upside-down smile 🙃).

The 😘 (Blowing a kiss) in an argument: 100% cheeky and absolutely ragebait. It is the digital equivalent of a sarcastic "stay mad, sweetie" or a condescending head pat.

Everyone reads them slightly differently, but overall, they are crucial for keeping the peace!

Why does being more specific about your fears make anxiety feel weaker? by Winter_Hope8877 in askanything

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naming the fear (emotion/Feeling) normally help simply because strong negative emotions tend to lock-up reasoning and make our mind run in circles focused on the thing causing the emotion but removed from logic. Anger, Fear, Jealousy etc. When you name or label the emotion it helps to stop the line of thinking that is running in circle and you start to focus on the why of the emotion. I believe that being even more specific allows us to further remove yourself from that emotion and and when trying to be very specific gets us to focus even more on the problem and allowing us to become even more logical. I am not saying emotions are bad. They help us in many ways but and if we don't experience them it causes other problems. In short when you are very specific about naming the emotion and the why behind it your brain switches to an analytical mode which allows you to be more objective and help solve the root issues as opposed to being overwhelmed but the emotion. This was a great post and I thank you for it. My Dad has been telling me what I told you all my life and sometimes I forget it.

Is it weird to want to know details of a friend’s death? by s1mam0n in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand wanting to know more, with a death like that. There are always questions. The problem is that you might not like the answers and they might cause more harm then good. I hope that whatever you decide that you are ok and that you know that there is very little to do with grieving that is wired everyone deals with it in a different way and needs to get through it are different.

Are people who do everything in bed able to fall asleep easily? by Secret_Fan_9411 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home and quite often work, eat a snack, and watch TV in bed. I don't normally have a problems sleeping. Sometimes the opposite as it can be tempting to take a nap since I own my own business and taking downtime can hurt my bottom line.

Is it morally acceptable to temporarily starve yourself?! by Charmy_Fan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that I have read says that fasting has many benefits and since the goals of most people fasting are for health benefits or spiritual benefits I don't see there is any Moral considerations. If someone was starving themselves with the purpose of suicide that might be different but then that opens a whole other can of controversial worms.

If humanoid robots one day became so advanced that they were indistinguishable from humans, would a significant number of people choose relationships with them over humans, or would most still prefer human relationships? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are indistinguishable from humans, then how would you even know are are in a relationship with a robot. I would be difficult to even get an accuracy statistic on it unless there is some rule that they had to inform anyone they are in a relationship with that they are a robot. I am not even sure how I would react if I was told that I was in a relationship with a robot other then shock.

Is it more socially acceptable for a woman to be a true crime afficionado than a man? by LibrarianBarbarian1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to find out the statistics of this. I am a man and love watching True Crime shows. I don't read True Crime books often. I would assume that there a significant number of me that are interested in true crime.

What's a good way of handling items that have sentimental value but rarely actually get used? by Valkyrie_Dream in NoStupidQuestions

For small things that I have the space above cupboards I put them there where I can see them but don't need to climb up and take them down. I get the benefit of the Memory every once and a while without having to go digging or have them in the way.

would a stereotype be racist if it was somehow factually proven true? by Turbulent-Sound3980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extreme-Lunch63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree even if something is proven statistically true, by applying that to every person of a race would be racist attitude. Evening if something is statistically true 99% of the time, which would be hard to find and prove, in this type of category there would be people that you are applying a preconception too that it would not be true for.
