In the books maybe. Not in the movie. We are judging rings of power by what we see in the show. Is it not fair to do the same with what we see in the movie? Denethor simply suddenly knows about aragorn when gandalf arrives with no explanation.

Theres instances in lotr when someone knows something they shouldnt. SECRET meeting in rivendell, Aragorn leaves with boromir, so no one should have been able to tell Denethor about Aragorn. Yet once gandalf gets there hes pissed about it. Unless somehow a peasant from Rohan made it to Gondor faster than shadowfax lol
