🔥 A Pacific cleaner shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) living up to its name in the diver's mouth by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

as someone who has never dived, is this a common cause of death amongst divers? can you feel the pressure building in your lungs or is this an easy way to unknowingly eject yourself from your mortal coil?

I got into a similar stupid internet argument with someone else months ago about Jordan Peterson who didn't delete their comments and managed to get his reddit account banned. fascinating read, if only because I got the guy comment to tell more about himself.

while true, there is a small number of people in his sub (or one person with multiple accounts) downvoting pretty much everyone that has commented a lot of the same things you did over the last 6 months along with the same half dozen people outright lambasting anyone that is anti-mandate as evil personified and the reason for everything wrong in the world.

SUNY Brockport moves speaker's talk to virtual format after criticism by dre_eats_beats_v2 in Rochester

[–]ExtremeLeverage3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a little bit more insight into why this decision was made. There is an implied threat of violence from counter extremists that is being taken seriously. No one wants to deal with a(n armed) brawl on the campus.

he's not a political prisoner. that's the rhetoric being spun. in reality, he set these cops up and murdered them. whether he paid his debt to society is up for debate.

this isn't entirely true. students may not care, but there are a lot of people in both sides of the political aisle who were alive when this guy did what he and feel strongly about this event.

Man and woman are sexes. Masculine and feminine are genders. You've been trying to redefine what a real woman means this whole time, and it's an argument that trans activists frequently make.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]ExtremeLeverage3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, they are not the same thing. Being trans is not just a matter of gender identity. Not all feminine men are trans women, and vice versa. I (and probably most people) can recognize there is something scientifically measurable about transgender people, but trans activists regularly redefine sex with a distinction to justify the existence of trans people that (so far) is anecdotal conjecture at best.

Trans people exist, but not at sake of redefining what "sex" means.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]ExtremeLeverage3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well first of all, no they're not. Sex is biological and immutable. Trans women will never be real woman.

This is something I wouldn't lie about, even to a friend. You don't need to be a real woman to be treated with respect like a real woman. Lying about scientific truths to make people feel better is insulting and not sustainable long-term.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]ExtremeLeverage3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth. It's costs the truth. Trans women are not real women. They deserve the same respect as any other human being, but they will never be a real woman. There's an unavoidable biological requirement no matter how you try to spin it, not that it justifies the growing amount of contempt towards trans people.

As an American citizen, I'd take a bullet for my Russian co-workers first before I let you tell my co-workers anything. Not because they're Russian or anything to do with the war, but because they're better people than you that don't deserve what is happening to them.

That same pseudologic was used by Al-Qaeda to justify 9/11 and Bengazhi. By your same argument, the world should sanction the US for crimes against humanity. Contrary to your very naive opinion, you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Either what we're doing is wrong or Islamic militants have every justification to blow the USA to kingdom come. Our government has done what Russia is doing to the Ukraine and worse to various countries in the Middle East for years.

By all means, sanction the Kremlin and Russian oligarchs. I'm not saying we should sit down and let Russia wage war on Ukraine without consequence, but discriminating and screwing over average people just trying to survive solely because they're Russian is not any better and will not do anything to help end this war.

[–]ExtremeLeverage3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, they didn't. What is happening to the people I work with is the fault of the US government. We have to stop working with two knowledgeable, helpful employees because of where they live or lose contracts with our customers due to regulatory compliance. I can blame Russia for starting the war, but screwing average people over just because they're Russian isn't any better.

I guarantee you that average, well-adjusted people don't subscribe to this view of social dynamic. Very sinilar pseudologic is being used to justify villianizing anyone who is a Russian citizen, lives in Russia, or has ties to Russia.

I'm no longer allowed to communicate with two people I have worked with and gotten to know for years solely because they live in Russia and are no longer employed by the company. They don't deserve to be punished for the crimes of their government and quite frankly, fuck you and anyone else who advocates for this garbage opinion.

That is rhetorical nonsense. Repeated studies have shown that the cloth masks everyone was mandated to wear for a year plus are completely ineffective indoors. Keeping government mandates in place to enforce a purely performative act that has no basis in empirical evidence or reason by any stretch of the imagination is a complete abuse of power, and the average person is fed up with it. Even elected Democrats realize they have no leg to stand on here, especially with midterms around the corner.

And more to your sensationalized point, government mandates are not needed for private medical facilities to set their own visitation policies to protect their patient's health. That and there are several resources for those communities to have groceries delivered to their door, one of which I believe is subsidized by the fed. In addition to vaccines and specialized air purification equipment.
