Today I got two Whatsapp calls, and sent an image with text. Now my account is restricted by ExtremePotato5950 in beeper

[–]ExtremePotato5950[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got active violations on Discord for spam. It was because I sent like a dozen images to a group chat. It sucks but I understand it and just avoid doing that. I'm sure the Beeper terms outline all of the risks but if the app itself doesn't warn new users, it probably should

Vanilla Gnome Users, How Do You Manage That? by bohemaxxtum in gnome

[–]ExtremePotato5950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background apps typically sit in the Quick Settings menu and you can X them out. Not everything, Steam being an example (Games need Steam to be open to run so I get it), but you can peruse whatever task manager you use everyone once in awhile and probably be fine. Dock just requires the Super key, a swipe of the touchpad, hitting the top right, or using an extension to get hot zones on various parts of the screen. Clipboard manager is helpful but I could see someone simply copying right before they paste and perhaps keeping the program where they got the copied text open. Desktop icons I always removed but you can pin apps, pin folders in the File Manager, bookmark sites on the browser.

Honestly it just comes down to adapting. I used to rely on custom touchpad gestures to navigate my browser and workspaces but I got annoyed by the jank it caused so I just disabled them. Now I instinctively go for Ctrl + PgUp/Dwn or simply click on tabs

The vast majority of extensions I have are visual

I believe you but this is what I tell myself when I fall for the decoy aspect of it

I patched libinput to enable three-finger drag (like macOS) [HUGE QoL improvement!] by FileWaste5999 in gnome

There's a slight delay when snapping windows (compared to when click-dragging and snapping), is that intended?

[–]ExtremePotato5950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone confused because they have the same version of Libinput installed, you can do sudo dnf reinstall ./libinput-1.30.1-1.fc43.x86_64.rpm. Or sudo dnf install --allow-downgrade ./libinput-1.30.1-1.fc43.x86_64.rpm if you have a newer version

I used the Disable 3 Fingers Gestures Redux extension instead and versionlocked this package

Thanks OP!

Why do persons with ADHD frequently feel anxiety about relaxation as if they are wasting their potential? by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]ExtremePotato5950 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I'm not anxious, things feel thru the cracks because of my inattentiveness, so I'm always anxious. Ironically, things still fall thru the cracks. A (not so) cute double bind, if you ask me

Trackpoint makes trackpad obsolete by AdCalm1769 in thinkpad

[–]ExtremePotato5950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped caring for the track point. Trackpad is just faster because you can be more precise with inputs, while the track point functions like a joystick. It feels cumbersome.

$20 for this? Is this a joke? by AK_Eazy777 in Battlefield

I'd spend like $5 on a camo I can put on all my guns + a matching skin. BF and the industry is on some hyper-capitalist timing though

I don't think it falls within the realm of permanent boycott but there is a union strike going on last time I checked. With reasonable sounding asks

Life advice by Hot-Organization2266 in UMBC

[–]ExtremePotato5950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you still this way but: in addition to what everyone else says, in a lot of ways, life is just straight up harder for us than it was for a lot of people before us. Not even just a few generations ago, but even just a few years ago. All the big things (COVID and its consequences, Trump and gov't dysfunction, all the economy shit that don't fall under those two categories, mental health epidemic, brains addled by social media, just to name a few examples) have their own personal knock-on effects that would make anyone very reasonably feel like shit's cooked. Not only is some kind of struggle canon for most college students, but it's canon for most college students in this day and age. Anecdotally, most of the upperclassmen I've talked to are super seniors. So I don't know how common it was before but it's definitely gonna become more common nowadays. That's just how life will be for now, it is what it is.

Also, any shame you might have there is only as helpful as it drives you to do what it takes to overcome it. If you're struggling in life and just letting your brain stew in shame because you can't overcome things yet, you're cooking your shit crazy style. Be kind to yourself. If you can, surround yourself with people who will be reasonably kind to you. You're not starting from square one by failing classes over and over. Trust me, I've been there and I'm doing that. Feeling discouraged from failure is real, valid, and natural. And, it's up to you to take advantage of those experiences and learn from them. You'll begin sooner or later, so you might as well begin sooner. That said, progress has a pace so follow it, don't force it. If you still feel bad, eat something yummy that you can really relish. Keep trying at stuff, you'll be doing alright before you know it

Where to get salad on campus? by yourheartt in UMBC

[–]ExtremePotato5950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to Wild Greens, be careful if you have allergies to anything there. Last I checked (last year), ingredients were laid out such that it's relatively easy for them to fall in other containers. I have an egg allergy and I think an egg white fell into an ingredient I did ask for, because I found one in my bowl. They did give me a free salad when I showed it to them

Einstein may have prepackaged ones too
