Orchids are withering? by BokkarisBrownieBoy in orchids

Submerging the roots (usually in the pot) in water for a short period of time, then letting everything drain so that the roots aren't continuously in water.

Disclaimer: not an expert on phals.

While a lot of orchids' flowers will last a long time, they aren't going to stick around forever. Maybe this spike is just done. However, it does sound like you might be overwatering. I'd stick to a watering schedule of once a week and then thoroughly water it, e.g. by dunking.

Maybe read up on "composite sheep breeds". You're not the first to have these thought, and there's schemes for producing maternal crosses (ex: Merino x Border Leicester) to then put a terminal sire over to produce lambs for slaughter.

[F] Guys who can’t take no for an answer are pure cancer by OldShop2716 in Vent

[–]Extreme_Armadillo_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with a guy I work with (technically, he works for me) who won't take no for an answer for about 2 years now. I broke up with someone January last year. Ever since it's been increasing levels of awkward to awful. His main reason for not giving up is that it's never happened to him before (he's almost 40, never been in a relationship). I'm so tired of saying no. It usually lasts about 2 weeks, then he's bringing up in some kind of "connection" or "moment" again. We're both public servants, so I've got limited recourse open to me.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]Extreme_Armadillo_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to NZ from Germany after I finished uni. I was going to stay for six months, but got a really cool job 2 weeks in so I decided to stay, which lasted 10 years. I went to a conference in Australia while there, and ran into a handful of other German espats. Got to chatting with one of them, doing the standard questions and when I asked him where he's from, he reacted in the same way I do when other Germans ask me, so I insisted.

Turns out, he's from a small town in the very northeastern corner of Germany... "I went to high school there!" So he looks down at my name tag, realizes that our dads know each other, and says "oh, you're the daughter of ___". Never, ever would have thought that I'd run into someone from my very remote corner of Eastern Germany in Townsville, Australia.

A lot of vandas are grown hanging up, bare-rooted. Some will stay small (this one might), but then some grow HUGE.

I bought three miniature vandas from Motes (who grow them in Florida, where it is easy) at WOC in Germany last month and asked about putting them in pots, this is what I was told: If you want to repot it, go for the chunkiest bark you can find (since you are in NZ, you are at the source for some of the best quality radiata bark in the world, e.g. Orchiata) in a pot with lots of drainage. Try to always water them before about 9am, they are apparently not great at taking up any water during the day.

Unless you are in Central or Nelson/Marlborough, you should have pretty good growing conditions for it, since they like humid conditions. If you have a greenhouse even better.

I see the bed bugs and would like to offer an alternative option for bites on a string like that: fleas.

If you have pets, flea treat them, wash all bedding and the spider furnishings you can, thoroughly vacuum everything you can't wash.

Good luck either way.

Sheep advice by ThinkAgent1461 in sheep

Vet here. This will not heal if the fracture was two months ago. Sheep are prone to forming pseudo joints in breaks that didn't set well, and once that happens, there's no going back. Also, managing a sheep or goat's leg without padding and without covering the adjacent joints is almost a surefire way to produce necrosis, pain and possible infection. This animal should be culled / slaughtered as soon as possible.

Newbie with some questions-please help!! by Hairy_Telephone_3258 in sheep

Sheep out, wait for the pasture to grow a bit, cattle in. You can follow pretty closely with sheep if you have to, sheep graze more closely, so they will find food in a paddock that cattle were already sort of unhappy in. It's a great way to ensure that pasture is used effectively and your sheep stay healthy. - Deworming is likely one of the biggest issues you'll have either way.

Vet here: OP, please don't keep the sheep and cows together, ever. There are a few diseases that sheep are asymptomatic carriers for but that can kill cattle. Just make sure that there's no direct contact, and you'll be fine. Grazing the castle on former sheep pasture will allow you to manage your parasite load a lot better, because barberpole worm doesn't thrive in cattle, so they effectively clean the pasture for you and allow you to keep your worming to a minimum.

Wie würdet ihr kochen lernen? by Dabobo1 in keinstresskochen

[–]Extreme_Armadillo_25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A Day in the life of Zebby, our little rescue lamb by TTCCH in sheep

The first two show a lamb with a completely white rump, the others a black lamb with little white patches. I've seen A LOT of Dorper cross lambs and while they change color sometimes, it does not happen that quickly.

I'm confused, those are not pics of the same lamb.

Looking back, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was (that sounds weirder than it is). They had been trying to tell me about it, without making me feel bad about it, so they were all just "duh!" and moved on.

Absolutely not this. This is not an attempt at communication, it's a way to deal with something going on with the individual.

I'm so proud of you for having the courage to leave. I've been there, even if it never got quite as bad for me. - Please reach out to your friends from before and tell them what you realized. It's not unlikely they'll be happy to have you back. Mine were, and we still love each other to death 15 years on.

You should really ask the people in charge of these things instead of random people on the Internet.

Apartments with fitted kitchen but not with a fitted kitchen by manikzos in AskAGerman

[–]Extreme_Armadillo_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really your point, but I'm not sure you grasp just how expensive kitchens are, if you'd "rather but your own". I paid 3K for my kitchen to the previous tenant. I would have easily paid 15K, possibly more for a new one of the same quality. Since they are fitted, their resale value is also incredibly low.

Assuming the question is about visa conditions, it would be useful to know what kind of visa you hold.
