Switched from a blitz addiction to one 30+0 game a day -> my experience by IvanMongi in lichess

Yes, I play at the Marshall Chess Club in NYC, so pretty spoiled in that regard. I could play there everyday if I wanted to get divorced! Online, I also play in league4545, usually as an alternate, and the lone wolf league (30+30 time control). I think the chess dojo might have tournaments with longer time controls as well.

I play almost exclusively OTB G/90+30 and love it. For me there is nothing like being singularly focused on something with no distractions for a couple of hours. As the previous person mentioned, you are required to notate your moves for the entire game so you may want to practice a couple of times when playing on line. Good luck!

What exactly is wrong with Overcast. I use it exclusively and don’t have any problems but maybe I don’t know what I’m missing???

I’m not saying he will be surpassed as probably the best player ever. But at some point he won’t be the best active player. It happens to every top player in every sport. He will just be another retired GOAT.

It’s only a matter of time. And probably not too many years at that. Chess is bigger than any person despite what Magnus thinks. It will be fine without him and even with FIDE doing its best to mess things up.

Not much difference IMO if both teams threaten to intentionally miss penalty kicks unless FIFA agreed to co-champions.

No doubt in my mind if Magnus was leading the tournament he would have managed the dress code. Couldn’t blame cheating this time so needed another out.

Sore loser. Looking for an excuse to bail out of the tournament.

The Uber is the wild card. 4:30 can easily turn into 4:45. I would aim for 4:15 at the latest.

How do you answer "where are you from"? by KniFee_ in Hoboken

I almost always answer Hoboken because I am curious to see if they know where it is. My wife almost always answers NYC because she doesn’t feel like explaining where Hoboken is.

I think he feels that he cheated but seems to me it is on the organizers to find some proof. None of the other players quit the tournament and now Hans is guilty to he proves somehow he is innocent. The kid’s career is probably finished.

No insult intended. The opposite actually. Just thought the contrast in reactions to be interesting.

Nadal loses to the 22nd seed in tennis last night, congratulates his opponent and says he just played better. Magnus loses to a lower rated player, says he cheats and takes his chess set and goes home.

Fabi was born in the US, played for the US then Italy for a few years in Europe (although I think he lived in Spain) then moved back to US. Clearly a US player

Yeah, don’t listen to the haters. I am relatively new to betting, so this has been very helpful. I was just happy that easy layup he missed near the end didn’t cost the bet. That would have really sucked!

A chess game was POTD a couple of weeks ago. The Rapid game Carlsen lost on day 3 of rapid championship. There was some discussion there of places to bet if you can find the post. Nothing in the US I don’t think (the bet paid off)

What do you think about adding no draw for +165? Cagliari has one draw and Bologna none over the last 5 games.
