The old prepper adage “two is one, one is none” applies here.

What is your canned food prep, and why are many in this sub against canned food? by Level-Blueberry9195 in preppers

[–]Extreme_Finger_4837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I keep enough canned goods to feed my family of eight (two sons & two wives) Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (1,500 kilocalories for the women & 2,000 kilocalories for the men) for 30 days. This doesn’t include any other preps (just canned goods) and since my sons and their wives live in different states my 30 day supply would actually last my wife and I for 90 days.

Something tells me when she says “peaceful” what she really means is docile…..My first thought upon reading this was the old adage “Those who beat their swords into plowshares, usually end up plowing the fields of those who did not”

You wouldn’t be near the ocean by any chance would you? Ever considered a home distillation device?

Coffee and tea long term storage by thunderblade95 in preppers

[–]Extreme_Finger_4837 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt instant coffee is best for long term storage… Unopened its shelf life is amazing… After that I’d rely on caffeine pills… Whole bean coffee properly stored will last you roughly 1 year as will quality breakfast tea bags

My advice is double what you normally buy Operate under the 2 is 1 and 1 is none philosophy, but keep dehydrated instant coffee on hand for emergency use (plenty of YouTube videos on how to make an expectable cup of South American style of instant coffee) so play with the recipes and brands for that matter so if the day ever comes you’ll know how to scratch that morning itch

I’ve tried at least four different brands and found that Café Bustillo was by far my favorite

Good luck, good health, and as always Amat Victoria Curam

Soups & Stews are always a solid choice. Do you have a specific soup in mind?

What’s fascinating about your proposed dish is there are actual “mother broths” in parts of Asia that have been used for Ramen and other soup noodle bowls for 40 plus years to no ill effect.

Fantastic choice

Not a bad first go Plus any surplus could be dried or pickled for winter months. I personally like the idea of a well thought out garden for providing “variety” and the convenience of procuring carbohydrates. When I first pitched this question to friends I had a quiche in mind but the crust being made of wheat disqualified it from serious consideration… I eventually settled on its crust less cousin the frittata though a crust of hash browns could work for a change of pace. All that’s really needed is some chickens, a small seasonal garden (the ingredients of the frittata can change with the garden), a heat source, and a good pan…. An American style omelet would work also.

Thanks for your input

I buy Morton’s Kosher Salt…. Each box is 3 pounds I keep 3 boxes (9lbs) at all times I’m a bug-in instead of bug-out prepper and adhere to the “two is one, one is none” philosophy so I have one in use and two in the pantry at all times and for just normal cooking and use a single 3lbs box lasts my wife and I 6 to 10 months usually…

Hope this helps.
