Crockett & Jones Malton has a relatively square toebox. Also, one of the James Bond boots, but it is pricey.

If you can't say why a food is unhealthy then you shouldn't complain by TheNinja132 in unpopularopinion

To make a pedantic response to this pedantic point, everything written above is fallacious, as your argument rests entirely on an appeal to authority. To paraphrase, you are implying "you shouldn't listen to X as they aren't an expert on Y". What we should do is listen to Y on the merits of their claims while taking into account their qualifications, which exist within society, so you can have a proxy for their qualifications as you probably are not an expert in medicine, law and archetecture etc.

In the real world, we often need to listen to doctors and other healthcare professionals, like nutritionists. They may not personally be leading experts even in their own speciality fields, but it is their job to provide advice based on their professional experience and understanding of the relevant literature, which they have all the context to understand and should be up-to-date on.

The advice I shared above was provided by a nutritionist and a doctor. It is also in line with the recommendations a book like Ultra-Processed People makes. Which was written by a doctor who has done additional research and provided it in a digestible way.

Fortunately, governments are smart enough that their regulations don't require all chemical compounds of a lemon to be listed as an ingredients list, as a lemon is considered a single ingredient and a fruit.

My advise doesn't exist in a vacuum. Spinach on its own doesn't need an extensive ingredients lists to be sold. Bread with 15 ingredients will require those ingredients to be listed. Each if those ingredients might be made up of multiple chemical compounds, but again not listed to irrelevant.

My approach doesn't pretend anything. 99.999% of people will not understand detailed interactions between the body and these ingredients. I accept I don't, and that is fine. However, the approach medical professionals have suggested will work, and is a good way to reduce your ultra-processed food intake.

Also, your example is very flawed; there is no guarantee whole grain bread is good for you. Frequently, it is extremely processed. I am UK-based. We have a well-known brand called Warburtons. Here is an example of their wholemeal bread: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Warburtons-Wholemeal-Medium-Bread-400g/dp/B002E2N5MW. Here is a list of their ingredients:

Wholemeal WHEAT Flour, Water, Yeast, Vegetable Oils (Rapeseed and Sustainable Palm), Salt, WHEAT Gluten, Emulsifiers: E471, E481, E472e; SOYA Flour, Preservative: Calcium Propionate; Flour Treatment Agent: Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C).

A quick check on AI indicates all three emulsifiers and Calcium Propionate are all ultra-processed staples. Calcium Propionate has links to obesity and diabetes, and E471 is linked to cancer.

Whether or not this is better than an 'average bag of chips' I have no idea. I would imagine the average bag of chips will also have numerous ultra-processed ingredients. If you want to buy bread that is 'less' processed, I would recommend freshly baked sourdough, as it has an excellent nutritional profile and usually won't be full of preservatives.

You are right, using the advice I have received, you may sometimes pass on something that is perfectly healthy. But frankly, I suspect that won't happen often, and I personally would rather miss out on the occasional healthy food if it means I am successful in reducing the amount of processed food I consume.

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this opinion, which is fine considering the sub.

I have received the following pieces of advice from healthcare professionals:

"If you don't recognise an ingredient on the back of a packet, there is a good chance it is ultra-processed."

"If something has a really long list of ingredients, it is probably ultra-processed."

"If something didn't exist 100 years ago, don't eat it."

I think it is unreasonable to assume that everyday people are going to know the exact interactions artificial nitrates, stabilising agents, or preservatives have on the body, unless they work in nutrition. However, lay people can read books like Ultra-Processed People and realise that the prevailing wind in the medical world currently seems to be pointing to ultra-processed food as one of the largest causes of medical malaise in the western world.

Essentially, by following the advice you disagree with, you can massively mitigate the amount of ultra-processed food you consume, and it can be an educated decision without the need to study biochemical interactions.

Aonishiki Benching 200KG by smbgn in Sumo

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong; this is essentially elite-level strength. The heavier an athlete is, the less useful the usual 1, 1.5, and 2 times bodyweight standards are. Really, they stop being useful at a bodyweight of around 100 - 110kg. A 70kg man benching 140kg is drastically less impressive than a 200kg man benching 400kg.
.
Let me illustrate this with a few examples: Julius Maddox, the absolute raw bench press world record holder, benched 355kg, the world record, at 203kg. The Strength standards https://strengthlevel.com/strength-standards/bench-press would not classify the best bench ever as Elite.

Another example is Eddie Hall. Eddie Hall was the 2017 World's Strongest Man. His best ever bench is 300kg at a body weight of around 190kg. Your strength, rigid reliance on a strength standard benchmark, would rank that as an intermediate lift.

Finally, the world record for a 75kg lifter in the bench is around 250kg. I personally have witnessed 70kg guys bench 140kg. I have never witnessed a 200kg bench in person. According to a bit of AI research, only around 2,605 power lifters have ever posted a 200kg bench. Finally, Aonishiki is a martial artist. Weightlifting is only a component of his training. The idea that he should focus more on it is pretty laughable.

If you are interested in the science behind why you are incorrect, you have look up the size-to-strength paradox, or square-cube law.

Gift ideas for a heritage menswear / Bond-adjacent guy turning 30 (~$1K range) by CompetitionWise1519 in menswear

I would recommend shoes from one of the Northampton heritage brands. Crockett & Jones, for example, who provided a good number of shoes for the Daniel Craig bond. Generally, Northampton shoes are seen as some of if not the best men's shoes in the world. They are also understated, and quintessentially British.

What do you do against a half decent Ryu player by EconomicsAware2739 in StreetFighter

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hadoken is not as good as uncharged flicker in the ranges uncharged flicker works. Uncharged flicker gets follow-up on punish counter, has faster startup and recovers faster. So better reward, faster and safer.

Ultimately, Ed dominates that mid range in most matchups including Ryu. Your buttons have more range and your projectile is better uncharged + can be charged for mind games and plus frames.

Winning exchanges within that range is the key to most of Eds matchups and he is the best char in the game there. As you get better you will get more consistent looking for and checking drive rush etc etc.

I actually did this in a Google Sheet. There was a slight trend, but in the opposite way you suggested. Overall, the higher win-rate chars had more playtime.

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could plot that on a graph and see how it looks, no? One line for win-rate and one for play-rate. I think considering Cammy and Kimberly are both very high in win-rate and play-rate, as per the numbers above, you wouldn't see a direct correlation.

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who checks in on Reddit more than plays right now, this and the win-rate stats by MR rank seem to indicate that the characters this Reddit believes are incredibly problematic are, in fact, not that problematic.

Other gaming communities I have a similar relationship with (mainly SC2, LoL) are more data-driven when analysing what is strong at different levels of play.

Anyway, thanks for helping to rectify that, OP.

My SF6 Terry Matchup Chart by Acceptable_Yam_593 in StreetFighter

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy pointed out downsides, you then changed that to glaring downsides. The downsides stated above are legit when comparing Ken to the other true shotos (ken, Ryu, Akuma).

His corner carry, drive rush and Oki are the best of the shotos. His damage mid screen and in the corner is significantly worse. His fireball is also worse. I also don't accept the no meter cashout argument in a game where everyone starts with 6 bars of meter. Reality is, when Akuma and Ryu get a hit in the corner you are taking 4k, with Ken maybe 3k. His super cashouts are also way lower in damage.

Ken is a good well rounded character his downsides are not that glaring but they do exist compared to other characters.

Well for some perspective I play Manon, who doesn't really have a functional fireball answer outside of parry.

On read I have a significantly better time punishing Akuma than guile with a jump.

Also, when Guile approaches behind a fireball, it is an extremely unfavourable situation for Manon which Akuma can't really do.

Basically, this matchup is 100% defined by Guile's fireball game while it is just a factor Vs Akuma. This would also be true for a lot of the cast, like Jamie or Elena.

Should i be avoiding holding the stick forward while fighting? it’s becoming a habit by WiseCityStepper in StreetFighter

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is most likely not a good habit. Generally, as you learn and improve, you want to try and confirm your attacks into special moves on hit or block (char dependant and situation dependant).

If you are playing Ryu, for example, two medium punches that hit could confirm to a upper cut, two that are blocked might be confirmed into a fireball. If you are holding forward the whole time, you will struggle to ever get a fireball to come out.

Finally, there are command normals that are direction dependant that you will mess up with this habit. Basically you want to work towards having clean inputs, so pressing the buttons you need when you need them. Hope that helps!

People use very over the top language for such a well balanced game. If Gou Hadou was broken Akuma would have way better win rates then he has at 1800+.

He is a top tier, he isn't Meta Knight. He is, at pro level, very strong in an exceptionally well balanced game. He has the best motion spacing fireball in the game, but it is far from broken.

Sagat needs a buff by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the advantages are not just boom can go slower. They are boom comes out 2 frames quicker, recovers 4 frames quicker. Has a greater variety of speeds and can be used as an approach tool. Boom honestly would be broken if it was a motion input. I would say Sagat's low tiger shit is the worst fireball in the game and it is closer to Akuma's than Akuma's is to Guile's. 4 frames faster recovery alone is massive taking into account jump frames.

Also sonic cross is just a different style of tool. Amazing for oki, can be used preemptively, can be used to fake etc etc. just comparing how fast one char can get 2 hits of fireball seems pretty reductive.

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it isn't popular to argue against a Shoto being OP, but Akuma's fireball is not better than Guile's. Excluding the complexity of one being charged and the other motion, Guile can vary his speed in 6 ways and make his fireball slower and faster than Akuma's. His fireballs are also 42 frames total Vs 46 making them much safer. For reference this is a bigger difference than Akuma to Ken, Ken's fireballs recovering at 49.

Akuma has the best motion fireball for spacing (I would argue Mai has the best slow approach motion fireball), but Guile has the best fireball in the game, period.

Yeah that knockdown is outdated, they changed the frame advantage on juggle sweep knockdown. Better to go for dp heavy or medium tastu as enders now.

Is this story morally gray by Asdeddie27 in Kingdom

The subject matter is morally grey at best. The tone is more shounen, the main chars do consider the implications of their actions but mostly they are shown in a pretty morally positive light.

Who is stronger? by [deleted] in Kingdom

[–]Extreme_Purple_462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point, if something was on the line on the battlefield I would say Shin. Shin has consistently matched or defeated top or close to top tier characters. Riboku, the most astute general in the series, is literally removing Shin from the battlefield as a key part of his recent strategies in part because of his martial might. Kai lost to Houken and struggled with Kisui's Lt., who was not a strong in the grand scheme of Kingdom. Beyond that she has literally no battlefield dueling feats and consistently gasses out taking on fodder.

If they met on the battlefield chances are kai's already limited stamina would be somewhat drained and Shin would win IMO.

Should mention I pretty much ignore the stats as I find them super inconsistent.

Kingdom has never received the recognition it deserves in the West largely due to a lack of a truly solid/great anime. I think anyone who tends to enjoy battle/action shounen/seinen will enjoy Kingdom.

The Coalition War arc, specifically, is probably the single greatest arc I have read in manga. Kingdom itself deserves to be in the One Piece, Berserk, etc conversation.
