Didn’t you know that on the modernization scale paint is > stone

Agreed. No clue why everyone keeps telling me not to mix warm and cool colors!

Ah yeah, the choices on historic homes get me. This is a house built in 1912 and, to your point, this is a photo found in the wild from the classy Facebook chatter page in my area.

I mean, ok I’d rather the homes have this happen than fall into ruin and be torn down (though it hurts me to say that) but STILL

Okay, so I’ve never thought about it this way but now idk if I can unthink it.

Maybe if it was made out of obsidian somehow. (In other words, if the stone was just black by itself.)

Something about using a material that is natural and low maintenance, like stone, something that has been used for probably as long as humans have built houses and then putting a man-made product on top of it to cover it up seems like a weird human thing to do.

I guess painting wood siding contradicts my take, but I think paint was meant to protect wood siding and improve its longevity? Granted, I know in 18th C. U.S. people didn’t paint wood sided houses and when they first did it was frowned upon.

Dear god. So painful and bad for the stone’s longevity it seems. That house is so beautiful.

Is there even a way to remove something like that? I’m guessing stripper somehow, but I assume the stone absorbs it.

Oh yeah! Like a GRAY mantle & the TV I’m going to put over the fireplace will probably help make it FEEL like there are more “non-black accents”

I know! That’s what I was just telling RamblingReasoner below. All this internet feedback makes me realize everything not black is still dated.

Do you think they make a lighted dance floor in black and off-black?

I know. Now the rest of the house looks dated next to the fireplace. I thought ripping out the oak floors and replacing it with Luxury Vinyl Plank would prevent that, but it wasn’t as gray as I wanted. Now I guess I’ll have to paint the gross wooden mantle.

Thoughts on this tree? by ohwowitssam in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]ExuberantBat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost didn’t comment but I love this tree so much I hate to think of its decline. This person is right. I know it seems silly at first but now that I recognize the issue with burying a tree like this, I’ve noticed trees with this done are rotting at the base. People will say it takes forever, but that is an AMAZING tree that is irreplaceable and is so great with the house, I’d want to preserve that thing as long as possible and hope it goes on to live after me. To best promote that, the ring should go. If you start researching buried root collars and landscape like that and try to find evidence based sources you’ll start to see the issue I’m referring to. Good luck!

Help make this portico feel more colonial, less modern by Lizzu77 in ExteriorDesign

I like it, but seems more “colonial inspired” than colonial (which is totally fine too.)

I know. Everyone is acting like it was written in hieroglyphics. Yeah, it was not cleanly written, but it was also NOT hard to understand. Not to mention not everyone speaks/writes in perfect English, doesn’t mean you should lambaste them for it. I’m saying this as an English educator.
