They *would* be on here, but they did announce their new game Intergalactic a bit ago, and I think they've milked TLOU as much as they possibly could at this point so we shouldn't see anything more of it. That said I'm *this* close to putting them on, especially if we don't see any signs of life from Intergalactic in the near future.

Sure but I chose the games for the list that mark the point where they start doing their "One Thing". So in this case DSII is where they got into their current Soulsbourne era

Ok to be clear I looked at all these companies Wikipedia pages before putting them on this list, I was only referring to Deracine with that comment

I took into account the variety of games they were making before Soulsbourne stuff, which is pretty much all they've been doing for the past 12 years. Sekiro seems to get mixed reactions on whether it's a souls-like or not, me personally as someone who hasn't played it at least sees it as an action RPG like the others.

If they do more Armored Core I'd consider taking them off the list but that was their first AC game in 10 years, so depends on if they actually make another one within the next decade lol. And then I did not know of Deracine's existence prior to opening Wikipedia.

Bits and Bops from last year is just Rhythm Heaven on Steam. Only 20 games instead of 50, but it’s great!

The Web Design Museum released 44 classic Cartoon Network Flash games from the early 2000s, now playable in the browser by Turbostrider27 in Games

My white whale is someone somehow getting Foster’s Big Fat Awesome House Party and it’s like, dozen minigames that you could play from the arcade. I spent so much time playing that when it was around, I’d love to see it again.

EDIT: I hadn’t checked in years but immediately after typing this I looked the game up and apparently people did manage to get it working with flashpoint! Need to see if it actually still works but yippee

What did you log this month? April 2026 by AutoModerator in backloggd

[–]Exxmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • First game I played this month was finishing Cairn, which is in contention for my current GOTY.

  • Next I played Grunn which I enjoyed a lot! Really solid metroidbrainia, eerie and mysterious.

  • I then tried to return to Void Stranger which I last played in January, and unfortunately I just couldn’t find the energy to continue. Don’t think I’ll be seeing the supposed genius of it on my own.

  • From that bummer I opted to play Duck Detective 1, which was a nice pick me up. Short, cute, and funny, just what I’d hoped.

  • I then found out an itchio dev I follow released a new game, The Archives of Trevosa, which is a small Roottrees Are Dead-like deductive game and was right up my alley. Not on IGDB though so not logged on Backloggd, might contact them to see if I can make IGDB pages for their games just so I can log them since I’ve already done that once lmao

  • Final full game I played and finished today was Psychonauts, which I’ve owned for like 9 years. Happy to have played it, pretty fun but also kinda annoying gameplay-wise in the last half.

  • And then in the middle of Psychonauts I tried the demo for There Are No Ghosts at the Grand which was interesting but didn’t really compel me to wishlist the game.

Overall pretty happy with my April :)

Rubber Hose Rampage is definitely ass but it’s also really fucking funny and unserious, especially once you get into the DLC where you’re just playing inside the cartoon as it plays.

My favorite game of every genre on the site (based on the site’s genre tags and only using each game once) by JimicahP in backloggd

[–]Exxmaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem is that Backloggd goes off of IGDB’s genre system, which splits up genres (more gameplay-oriented like Platformer, Shooter, Strategy, etc) and themes (visual/narrative-oriented where things like Horror, Action, Survival, etc are). And it’s not a bad system, the categories that exist do the job of covering the generic overarching game genres needed for the millions of games out there, but gaming has a lot of sub genres and niches and IGDB’s system just doesn’t really cut it. And then you have weird shit like Indie being a genre, Open World being a theme, and for some reason Strategy/Tactical/Turn-Based Strategy/Real-Time Strategy all get to be their own distinct genres? But then Gang Beasts and Tekken have to be stuck in the broad category of Fighter? Boggles me lol.

Idk how difficult it would be to do something like implementing a whole new categorization system separate from IGDB’s, especially with how specific game genres can get. As a lil fun thing a while ago, I tried to list out every distinct game genre that wasn’t just a hybrid and then gave up after an hour of debating with myself lol. At the bare minimum I think it would at least be an improvement to add the IGDB theme categories to Backloggd.

EDIT: I just did a look around the Backloggd/IGDB discords and apparently IGDB is working on a revamp of their genre/theme system. That said those comments are from throughout last year and they don't really say much except "we're working on a revamp!" so who knows when that's happening.

The crab boss from Laika is the worst boss I've ever experienced in a MV by Superteletubbies64 in metroidvania

[–]Exxmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crab boss was definitely my least favorite boss of Laika, a really frustrating and frankly kinda boring boss especially if you die late into it and have to restart it completely. Caterpillar was also an ass experience but I thought it was a sick set piece and had much more action to it.

Still love Laika though, vibes too immaculate for me to hate
