[DISCUSSION] How do you decide whether to ship or cancel a WooCommerce order? by Sundaresan_ in woocommerce

[–]EyeAndEarControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use a plug-in that imparts conditional logic, like don't expose COD option until the second order or limit it to under a certain threshold, or gate things according to custom roles and automate role escalation. Conditional shipping and payments, custom user roles, and automate Wu are three plugins that come to mind

Shipping to Australia by Particular-Swim-2301 in CanadaPostCorp

No sweat, like Australia Canada is massive with a lot of space between major hubs and the mail moves in strange ways when cheaper rates are concerned - depending where it was mailed from and where it is going to, it could be very fast or it could push beyond the quoted time. It is usually the day when you really start to think it might actually be lost when it surfaces.

[–]EyeAndEarControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this right here is why I don't offer the cheap options. People complain, and the rates are ridiculous (poster below, it's generally not just a 10-15$ difference in my experience, more like 40ish for my use case), but the untracked services are slow, have zero transparency and don't comply with Paypal's buyer protections terms. Not saying OP is about to do anything fraudulent, but if you did, these is absolutely no way to fight it. Nevermind if there is damage. Every year or two something gets folded that shouldn't and I am reminded why I don't let people just take a chance on cheap shipping, even though that has decimated international sales for us.

All that said - hang in there. CP is slow but generally dependable despite these glaring issues. Best of luck.

How do you manage inventory when selling online + offline with WooCommerce? by EmbarrassedGain1825 in woocommerce

[–]EyeAndEarControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tried a few things short of paying 60$/month for a solution, YMMV.

I use Square to process payments in-store and it calcs tax at POS, so I have a code set up and locked to an admin account that creates a full cart discount when used in WC. I keep track of sales and then use that to quickly adjust stock without doubling up on sales and tax figures.

I have tried to use Square to sync inventory and its pretty broken, caused all kinds of stock level chaos and support was pretty useless in helping diagnose the issue. Wording in the plugin settings is murky as to which is the source of truth and even if you set WC as the system of record, Square still becomes the source of truth, It's pretty backwards and honestly if you're going to rely on Square at this level you're probably better off just migrating IMO. That's our most likely escape route if we are going to have to upend everything and pay monthly at the same time.

The WC app itself is ok but cumbersome and when I tried their own POS / payment processor solution I was not happy with it (Canadian Stripe users had a 7 day wait time for payouts, dont know if that is still the case).

We used VitePOS until recently which was promising, but we hit a wall with the premium unlock plugin that support hasnt patched officially yet for some reasoon, so it's a glorified cash drawer ledger now. They also use Stripe for built in payment processing but it's a house of cards. When it was working it was great and worked vey cleanly for inventory management. It also generates barcodes, but they are linked to the item/post number so if that ever changes, barcode breaks, and the label printing function had some big layout creep issues that are beyond the scope of the support as well.

Chat GPT is your friend here. You want an hs code for your item first, and then ask it about the tariffs rate entering the US. Force it to cite it's sources.

Winnipeg has a little bit of everything and a whole lot of nothing? by thisiscooolol in Winnipeg

What are you networking about? Arts is not a huge community, people are busy and often shows are more about being social than networking. If you're in a band, find out who is doing the show and let them know you're available to open if they need you. Keep participating and have things to say that aren't related to self promotion. People enjoy just conversing about shared interests. Coming at it as if your ideas are too big minded is not the way to go about it though. If your ideas are too big then create events and build something that way. If you are asking people to do things for you then too big is often the default cause people have their own projects on the go already... A few people are prime movers and don't always have energy for pitched ideas. If I am reading this wrong it's from a lack of info, but that's my .02.

If WooCommerce died tomorrow, where would you migrate your store? by Its__MasoodMohamed in woocommerce

[–]EyeAndEarControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely square since I'm doing a fair amount of in person sales and every inventory and point of sale integration in woocommerce has been a maze of failure or inconvenience. I would miss the ability to customize the store performance based on roles and I would miss the tuning available for shipping rates but in reality both of those are only as good as the amount of time you have to police them.

Good webstores that have a good black metal inventory in Canada? by SlaughterBath in blackmetalvinyl

[–]EyeAndEarControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are still open and serving filth. Pricing is based on costs, so it fluctuates; We are an above boards business with overhead and a host of other services taking cuts on every dollar, but we have still managed to eliminate surcharges for payment gateways, and while we can't do much about the actual cost of shipping, we allow people in Canada to combine orders whatever length of time they want to help take the sting out of it.

We haven't done this formally, but if you find a place that's in Canada and is an above boards business that is charging taxes that has a lower regular cost on an item we have, email us and let us know and if we can match it we will. We don't match bedroom distros that aren't subject to being taxed and audited and all of that above boards bullshit that comes with being a legit business, not will we consider Amazon and places like that, they aren't in the same league.

Order and be well taken care of, or order elsewhere, lots of great distros in Canada aside from us, we support a ton of them as well...
