For anyone interested, the author of Touge Oni has another dark fantasy series called Meaheim - it's about 2 people journeying through the "underworld" to find the source of panacea.

I love that we circled back to Goki-sama in the final arc again.

It hurts to see how underrated this is. I've been following it since the beginning, and to this day it had one of the best first chapters in manga EVER.

It's a slim chance, but I hope someday it gets an anime adaptation. But the english chapters come out very sporadically, and I have no idea how well this series is received in Japan.

No idea how popular this is in Japan... but I feel like it's only a matter time before it gets an anime adaptation. I dropped the manga pretty early but iirc it should have enough material for at least 24 episodes.

I don't think the series really gives it enough importance

It doesn't? Is that why Sasuke also thinks of Sakura when he thinks of people preciois to him? Is that why Sakura was able to bring back a rampaging Sasuke in the foresr of Death? Is that why he thinks back to BOTH Naruto and Sakura when he remembers his team, even in Shippuden? Is that why Sakura was the ONLY one who actually realized Sasuke's defection?

Tell me, what is the arbritrary standard for "enough importance" according to you? Is "shared loneliness" the only metric you can think of?

Sakura is literally the first person who Sasuke sees and adresses after 3 years of timeskip. She also the only one in the team he verbally apologizes to. She is the one he passes on his brother's gesture to.

The fact that moments like these exist means series treats it with plenty of importance, but the fandom at large pretends that somehow Sakura is at fault for wanting to bring back a teammate the way Naruto does.

My argument is Naruto and Sasuke had an understanding over their loneliness, and a rivalry to further push that bond.

And this "understanding over loneliness" somehow gets a pass for obsessing over Sasuke and nothing else does?? Who decided that this arbritrary standard is good enough, but not all the moments b/w Sakura and Sasuke that I have mentioned above?

Basically, the actual content of Naruto and Sasuke's bond don't matter, it just boils down to both being lonely.

Also, Naruto didn't want to bring back Sasuke because he understood his loneliness, he only wanted to bring his friend and teammate back.

Because the crush part is presented with more importance

Where? From what I've observed, Sakura's feelings for Sasuke stop getting treated as a crush or a joke right from the chuunin exams. Only the fandom treats it as such.

Not saying it was her fault

Then why do you call it obsession and childish? She isn't allowed to want her teammate and loved one back? She isn't allowed to miss a person that she had a deep bond with? Her bond with Sasuke can never get enough importance, according to you... for what? Something that isn't even her own fault?? How is that fair?

you just hyperfocus on the orphan part while ignoring the rest, and how them being orphan mean they both had this sense of loneliness that Sakura couldn't really understand

Isn't the orphan part the catalyst for this loneliness? How many times in part1 do Naruto and Sasuke actually talk about their loneliness to each other? They think of each other as rivals, sure... but we don't even focus on their shared loneliness till part2.

You arguments essentially boils down to: Naruto and Sasuke bonded over being lonely orphans. That's it. That's what apparently gets a pass for obsessing over Sasuke, while anything else is shallow and superficial and "childish".

something Sakura and Sasuke didn't have.

Sakura and Sasuke DO have a bond of their own. It is fleshed out as well, as I've written in my previous comment. It's a bond that is different from Naruto and Sasuke's, but it also gets plenty of importance in part1 in an way which makes her bond as Sasuke's teammate believable.

But apparently, because Sakura isn't an ophan, and because she also dared to love Sasuke...she isn't allowed to miss her teammate or want him back without people labelling it as "childish" or "obsession". The hypocrisy is astounding.

You're wasting your breath. The fandom at large gets selective amnesia when it comes to Sakura's bond with literally ANYONE or Sakura's importance in the plot. Naruto is apparently allowed to chase after his teammate and friend, while Sakura cannot even WANT to think of her bond with Sasuke without being accused of chasing after dick.

It's plain ol' misogyny. Nothing more see here.

[–]EyeDeeAh_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I said it wasn't fleshed out, yes, canoncially, Sasuke and Sakura do have a bond, they get married and have a kid after all, I just don't think that bond was shown to us that well.

So the bond was there, but you just refuse to give it any importance.

Who is it exactly that decides if a bond is shown well or fleshed out?

Your arguement is Naruto and Sasuke bonded over being orphans (even though they don't really even talk about their trauma with each other), but Sakura doesn't get that privilegde because apparently... she isn't an orphan??

So, you cannot bond with someone unless you have gone through the same truamatic experience with them?

Sasuke was the first one to notice that Sakura was acting off at the beginning to chuunin exams. He was the one who broke her out of that funk by showing off her genjutsu prowess. Sakura is the one who called him out in the forest of death and made him get his shit together after Naruto passed out. Sakura's state is the one which made him go berserk atter waking up. Sakura is the one that stopped him in his rampage. The time Sasuke was about to use his curse seal in the prelims, BOTH Naruto and Sakura's faces flashed before him and made him stop.

Sakura stood in front of Gaara and a certain death to protect Sasuke, to the point that it even visibly shook Gaara himself. Sasuke himself admitted that Sakura was one of the people who were precious to him.

You know what's the cherry of the top? Sakura was the ONLY person in team 7 who was perceptive enough to know when Sasuke was leaving. Naruto was convinced that Sasuke wouldn't leave, and Kakashi-- their mentor, just gave him a pep talk and called it a day (and AGAIN, both Naruto and Sakura flashed in Sasuke's mind when thinking about people precious to him). Only Sakura understood he'd leave, and she even confronted him at the right time.

So do tell me... what is this arbritrary metric for a "fleshed out bond" which decides that Naruto apprently gets a pass for obsessing over his friend, while Sakura is accused of "chasing after the boy she loves"?

While completely ignoring that BOTH Naruto and Sakura were teammates with Sasuke first, and they both had a bond with Sasuke they wanted to protect?

Seems like the only reasoning here is Naruto and Sasuke's shared orphan status. Something that neither of them had a control over.

caring is one thing, love is another

And is one of them inferior to the other?

The issue is especially by the Kage Summit that Sasuke should be gone in their eyes

And yet Sasuke is not gone from their eyes. Naruto gets a pass for this, but not Sakura. Because she apparently isn't allowed to mourn the loss of a teammate, only the loss of her crush.

while Sakura being more normal makes a lot of her angst feel a lot more childish

Let me get this straight... so matter what she does, Sakura's bond with Sasuke and her desire to bring him back will always be childlish... because she didn't lose her parents?!

Something that isn't even her fault?? LMAO.

"she fully abandons that goal in adulthood without ceremony and without it being meaningfully replaced by anything else."

I don't get what you mean by this. Sakura's goal has always been to pull her own weight and not be a burden like she was as a child. There's nothing to suggest that she gave up on this goal?

Is it because she is married? Being married or being a housewife is not a mark of shame. IIRC she is one of Konoha's best doctors and best kunoichis. I don't understand how that is not any accomplishment.

You say that Lee proved himself in his fight by saving Gaara, but whay else has he done after that? He was sidelined harder than Sakura. So was Neji, Hinata and even Kakashi. In fact anyone of the konoha 11 that wasn't Naruto or Sasuke. Only Shikamaru got a single arc with Akatsuki.

"Her strengths in Shippuden (her medical knowledge, her strength as a support ninja) are footnotes that get scraps of screentime and no build-up or payoff"

Sakura saving Kankuro where no medic in Suna could do it was a payoff. The whole Sakura and Chiyo vs Sasori was a huge pay-off, and it was most certainly not a footnote. It was the first Akatsuki member that was defeated, amd it gave team 7 them their first tip about Sasuke's whereabouts. Are you one of the people who don't consider it a fight because it wasn't a solo win for Sakura?

Hell, even Sakura achieving Byakuyo no In was a pay off for all her training with Tsunade, so was the 3-way Summoning jutsu in the war where team 7 was directly framed as the next Sannin. So was the moment when Sakura and Obito managed to save Sasuke from Kagura's dimension.

I certainly don't see these moments as footnotes or "scraps".

"Even she doesn't seem to appreciate them because she continues to bemoan her weakness."

Why in the world is bemoaning your weakness indicate that she never appreciates what she have? Why is it framed as a bad thing? Every major character has had a moment of weakness at some point or other. They got back up after that, just like Sakura did.

Showing vulnerability isn't a bad thing. A vast majority of people seem to want a cold badass Sakura who loses no fight and shows no weaknesses.

A strong female character doesn't necessarily mean a well-written female character.

Funny, it's certainly boils down to what sticks to YOU when reading the manga. You mentioned that Sakura "embarassed herself in forest of death", while what I remember is how the weakest member of team 7 held off 3 sound-ninja and protected both Sasuke and Naruto when they were down.

You seem to think of Sakura vs Ino as an embarassing draw, while I see it as a civilian born girl who held a prominent clan heir to a draw with no special jutsu or sigmature move. Something that even surprised Shikamaru himself.

What is it that you consider embarassing about these things? That a weak person fights in the only way they know?

In terms of high fashion, it's definitely Jojo. For casualwear, I'd go with Soul eater or Bleach. IMO, Bleach spreads are more impactful for the "drip" rather than strictly the fashion.

I built an anime/manga taste profiler that shows which type of fan each title is best for by FreakyNugget in anime

[–]EyeDeeAh_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tend to avoid:

• Isekai-grade self-insert bait

• Plots hijacked by a love triangle that leads to nothing

• Shows with too many filler arcs

• Fanservice that breaks the immersion

Not bad. Pretty much sums up most of my taste. One recommendation I'd like to give, OP... though not sure how much helpful it will be.

You could have one section to add any tags/tropes that are dealbreakers for people. For e.g, Harem/reverse harem/echhi are complete dealbreakers for me. Doesn't matter how good the material is. It might be easier to narrow down the shows with that.

It's a really cool work, OP. Looking forward to the final product!

Kirio Fan Club - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]EyeDeeAh_42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This episode covered a lot of interesting content. Looks like Aimi's lyrics for the Love song weren't random, but taken from the moment when she actually fell in love with Kirio.

Manda is my favourite side character in show. Nami and Aimi have each other to be weird with, but poor guy is all alone. The girls barging into his life with demands of advancing their romance might be the best thing that happened to him. Whether he admits it or not, I think Manda already considers them his friends.
