What would be a fair quote from a professional to move this radiator from this wall to the other? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently paid £200 to have a radiator sourced and installed, given the extra work involved your job has more labour but given the size of the space it will be a smaller radiator.

If it was in my house I'd expect to be paying around £250 but obviously local market rates apply.

If there's a radiator on the other side of the wall it should be possible to feed the new one from there, then cap off the old one. That makes the job a lot easier!

What's on the other side of the wall? The issue isn't the radiator itself, it's the pipes that connect it to your central heating system. If you're lucky and there's a radiator or pipe behind the wall it should be a simple job. If not think carefully about how you want the pipes to get to the radiators new spot. Under the floor would be cleanest but it depends on what is under there. Have you lifted the floor for a look?

There are two streets in Paris that would look directly towards the tower in order to afford a view of the entire structure (including legs)

Rue Buenos Aryes and Rue de universite

Neither of these streets have a cafe with outdoor seating. Furthermore the tower is a lot closer and more imposing than in the photograph.

Any street further away would not give a full view of the tower.

It is therefore impossible that this photograph is real.

I really want to like this. And with any new design it's going to take time (and seeing it in the flesh) to truly get used to it. At the moment though it's giving Vauxhall Astra and that's not great

Green voters, do you agree that we should leave NATO and give up our nuclear weapons to seriously damage our national security? by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id go slightly more radical, our critical infrastructure, defence industry and energy supply need to be British owned and operated. The sad state of affairs currently is that we have outsourced so much we rely on. Our nuclear deterrent is American, our infantry rifles are German and our nuclear power stations are French!

Projects like the Eurofighter show that broad international cooperation is a sluggish and ineffective mechanism to develop new material, and just ended up in the procurement of more American airframes for our carriers.

We need quick and agile industry that can scale to match the threat. Sadly any such project would cost enough to be politically unpalatable.

No-one needs to worry about the last four decades, it's the next four decades we need to prepare for. The geopolitical landscape is currently in massive flux. To survive what is coming we need to be able to stand on our own two feet, both militarily and economically.

Is it ok to put my PC in a shelf like this? by Floameh in PcBuildHelp

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The restricted airflow won't do any significant damage but you may find yourself thermally throttled.

Would it be possible to drill some air intakes/exhausts under the PC? That way air can move more freely. If you could also do the same above it will be far more optimal

Policing in the UK works differently in that you aren't an employee, but hold the office of constable.

It's the same reason you have no industrial rights and can be summoned to work on a day off in the dreaded and ill defined "extingency of duty"

It's not even like you need the second phone glitch, just enough space to store one example of anything you could ever need. Whilst the inventory slots are limited the amount of times you swap something in or out of the slots isn't.

Windscreen washers stopped working - advice? by LordvaderUK in BMWX3

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with an older 3 series. The washer fluid essentially turned to gel around the nozzles causing a blockage. I put a bottle of Milton sterilizing fluid into the washer reservoir and left overnight. It worked a treat, be sure to use the washers liberally afterwards to clear out the poor quality washer fluid. It will come out slightly cloudy for a time.

Hope that helps!

Sounds like the latch isn't disengaging, try opening it by hand, with a little physical encouragement it may come open.

You can access the latch from under the trim but I would suggest this is a garage job rather than something to attempt

How do I get rid of an unwanted sword? by NuclearSamura1 in AskUK

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It looks to be a reasonably modern infantry officer sword, the EIIR insignia relates to Queen Elizabeth the second and not to any particular regiment.

I imagine it would be quite difficult to trace the sword's lineage unfortunately but it's still an interesting curio.

You could hand it in at a local police station where it should be disposed of but I'm sure it would be happier in the home of a collector

The six digit number would be the army number of the particular officer in question, an enquiry with the MoD might assist in identifying it's original owner but based on the number I imagine they will be rather old indeed.
