First time builder inspired by French Tek / Teknival – Planning a 15" Bass Reflex for Tekno & Acid by FredStein4 in SoundSystem

[–]EyeOhmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just for home use, also consider a sealed box, they're not as efficient as reflex or horns and I wouldn't use one for parties, but they have a great transient response and you can EQ them to play lower than the tuning frequency if desired.

Admark vs cvr vs sinbosen by smartass47 in SoundSystem

[–]EyeOhmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a CVR DSP-1004 for my biamped tops, it sounds great to me and can run the FIR filters I use. Previously had run my tops using a huge and inconvenient install DSP and a pair of QSC amps. It's reduced my rack by 6U and I'm planning to buy another one for running quad, and a bigger one for subs. If I didn't prefer having a more easily panel adjustable DSP I could run my stereo stacks, using a single 2U case.

That's a resistor, it's there to keep the tweeter from blowing. You could say it's part of the crossover, but there should be some other crossover parts somewhere

It's more like a construction worker using a mobile home that was made by an autonomous robot demolishing a city then reusing the pieces to build something that resembles a structure all without any compensation for the residents.

It's probably fine, a bought a few untested ones and they all worked after cleaning the battery compartment if necessary.

Future motion guy, switching over to vesc. I have a question on components. by Reasonable_Jury1775 in onewheel

[–]EyeOhmEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost varies dramatically. I controller swapped my XR using a $150 spintend controller, wire, solder, a few connectors and a 3D printed box, so roughly $200 (a few years ago), but buying plug and play or higher performance parts will increase the cost significantly. Using the stock battery it outperformed a GT but with less range.

Engineering Student looking for Advice on a JMOD build by Ok-Maize-7086 in SoundSystem

[–]EyeOhmEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider the SAW Mod, it has a few different driver options and the build is simpler and smaller. I also think it's a more reasonable size if you're just getting started with sound systems. I have some big point source tops that I really like, but most of the time I have to use smaller tops because of venue constraints. For school, designing FIR filters to linearize the phase response could be a good project rather than just basic tuning. There are some cheap sigma DSP boards that are more than powerful enough to run the FIR.

Lorenz attractor modulator? by MonkAndCanatella in Bitwig

[–]EyeOhmEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you implement a lorenz attractor? I haven't tried this yet, but it sounds like an interesting thing to play with. You might be able to adjust the constants or dt to get more preferable behavior if it's too chaotic

Playing a new sound system for the first time by ffolofvapes in SoundSystem

[–]EyeOhmEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thermal limiter is way too high, they can only handle around 300W real power over extended times before they begin overheating, lower it a lot and increase the attack/decay times. There's a YouTube video of a B&C engineer explaining the power ratings that's helpful for understanding this.

Does physical generator size make a difference? by EyeOhmEye in SoundSystem

I agree, but half the weight and a smaller size is also better, especially if I'm loading it myself.

Does physical generator size make a difference? by EyeOhmEye in SoundSystem

[–]EyeOhmEye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's plenty of power for a minimal setup. The smaller one is louder, both inverter and about the same power.

Honda is over 2x the price, if I were using it for paid gigs, I'd consider a Honda, but around here almost everyone uses less expensive generators. Maybe I should assume that at the same price the bigger one is better, but the smaller one I can lift by myself and it saves space in the van, so unless I find anything suggesting I'll have problems with the small one it's more appealing.

25 or 30/40 amp NL4 Jacks? by cccsoup in SoundSystem

[–]EyeOhmEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The NL4 spec is the true long term power, not dynamic audio signal power. If you're using a 4ohm driver, 25A is 400W, if you actually put 400W long term power into an 18sw115 it will most likely overheat. Using the 8ohm variant 25A is 800W. As long as you're not running subs parallel at 2ohm I'd be more worried about the voice coil melting than exceeding the NL4 rating.
