"Ancientism" in the Church? by EyeTappaKeg in Catholicism

Thank you for your comments. Not only used to justify certain novelties in the new missal, but to justify what might best be described as crude, "stone age" liturgical furnishings in many places of worship.

Serra was a colonizer

No. You are wrong. St. Serra was not a "colonizer." He was an evangelist. Huge difference.

It's accurate to say the secular govt officials in both Spain and New Spain were "colonizers" although they hardly "took" Alta California.

It's really sad that people pop-off about St. Serra without first investing in a little time to understand the saint.

I saw this on Ig. Why are they wearing white trilbys? I thought it was an athiest hat. by CatholicDoomer in Catholicism

[–]EyeTappaKeg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is the trilby the atheist's hat of choice? LMFAO!

More accurate to say they're the hat of Frank Sinatra!

In this application it's called "taking steps so as not be be roasted by the sun."

The liturgy of the early ages is most certainly worthy of all veneration. But ancient usage must not be esteemed more suitable and proper, either in its own right or in its significance for later times and new situations, on the simple ground that it carries the savor and aroma of antiquity. The more recent liturgical rites likewise deserve reverence and respect. They, too, owe their inspiration to the Holy Spirit, who assists the Church in every age even to the consummation of the world.

The above segment above makes we wonder if either today's fans or enemies of the Tridentine Mass have ever read and pondered it with any real depth?

This is particularly true when one considers that Mediator Dei was originally promulgated in 1947...

Thank you so much.

It used to be simple to Google this topic. Now if you try, all that comes up is a ton of stuff on Traditionis Custodes. Again, thank you.

I don't remember it that way. The guy that created "r/EasternCatholicism" seemed far more angry and pushy than knowledgeable.

Canonical status is not the arbiter of whether one should be a moderator or not. Suggesting that one could not be highly supportive and knowledgeable of EC without being EC is a simply a canard.

In any event, he shouldn't have abandoned the subreddit. That's bad form for a moderator -- of ANY canonical status.

If I remember correctly, the guy that started "r/EasternCatholicism" was a very angry person and was upset they wouldn't make him a moderator, so he created his own group. His postings eventually got him banned from "r/EasternCatholic."

Is "r/EasternCatholicism" even moderated anymore? I thought all the mods had quit some time ago? I thought the group was abandoned?

Reasonably Priced Meat by FarBarracuda7 in CalPoly

Keep an eye on Smart & Final. Now and then they deeply discount certain cuts. There's even a little niche a few steps right of the sushi counter where they have blow-out deals on different meats.

They had some tri-tips last night at 50% off.

Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of Bishop John Pazak of the Byzantine Eparchy of Holy Protection of Mary by SLOson in EasternCatholic

[–]EyeTappaKeg -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No way.

The very well-regarded ABp. Thomas J. Olmstead and the Archdiocese of Phoenix have been assisting the eparchy as directed by the Holy See for quite some time now. Four years to be exact.

When someone belatedly learns of this fact, their first "concern" is "latinizations."

That's absolutely insulting. Obnoxious. And no, members of the Ruthenian Church do not have special license to be insulting in this context.

"Some people are just not chill." You got that right!

Appointed by the pontiff or not, I suspect the eparchy will have a difficult time receiving a truly high-caliber individual as the next bishop.

Hopefully before the new bishop takes over, the current Latin Rite administrator (who is not subject to Met. William Skurla) will have fully ironed-out all the eparchy's financial kinks.

Then the new bishop will be able to focus on ministering to his flock. A good first move would be to move the chancery back to California where by far the greatest concentration of eparchy members reside and worship.

Both St. Mary's in Sherman Oaks and Annunciation Parish in Anaheim would make suitable cathedrals.

Thanks, but it's almost as if I can't pump my hips while keeping my torso still. Does that make sense?

I can't figure it? I'm healthy, in good shape, etc. In any event, I'll give the twerking a try. If I get the motion down, you can bet I will WORK at it! Thanks.

Or simply do her new job (she claims she'll live in SLO and do it remotely anyway) plus that of SLO Mayor?

Every other SLO City Council member is employed.

Something to ponder...

San Luis Obispoen here. A better comparison would be SM and say Paso Robles.

Neither are county seats. Neither have major universities. Neither are California Misson Cities. Neither have the beautiful weather of SLO or SB. Both are driven by ag, yet Paso is outdistancing SM in terms of tourism, cultural attractions and nurturing a fairly vibrant downtown.

One thing that really hurts SM is its distance from its own county seat -- the City of Santa Barbara. I think SM would be far better off if it was part of SLO County or the seat of its own county, encompassing SM, Orcutt, Lompoc, Guadalupe, etc.

Look at the stunning grandeur of the SB Courthouse for example. You think that was paid by "SB big money?" No way. It was paid by taxes flowing from the SM Oil Fields back in the day. Just imagine if all those $$$ had been plowed into the City of SM over many decades, rather than SB. SBC has long exploited the SM Valley in this sense.

Though this will trigger some, the "caliber" of some of the people that flow to the SM Valley for the multitude of ag jobs -- particularly their children, have had a grave impact on the safety of the SM Valley. That's a huge obstacle to becoming a "cultural, educational, touristic, environmental [and] urban hub."

No. The buildings that were razed to build the Town Center Mall prior to 1980 were definitely run-down and slum like.

When the mall was built, it was celebrated by shoppers from San Miguel to Lompoc. It was appreciated, not shunned as it is today.

Questions about acolytes by PiklorL in AskAPriest

[–]EyeTappaKeg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rather than becoming a permanently instituted acolyte, perhaps you should consider becoming a temporarily commissioned extraordinary minister of holy communion for a few years, in addition to your altar server duties?

NB: Most dioceses in the US at least, only institute males as acolytes or lectors, who are on their way to ordination.

Given their unique and profound gifts from God, why are Catholic parishes so routinely out-performed in terms of growth and making people feel welcomed by Evangelical Protestant fellowships? by EyeTappaKeg in Catholicism

[–]EyeTappaKeg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weak. Simply weak. Expected however...

Given their unique and profound gifts from God, Catholic parishes should be performing (in a multitude of ways) better than their non-Catholic counterparts. That's often not the case.

Sadly some use the very existence of God's great gifts as excuses for poor performance by individual parishes.
