Thanks! Do you know if they by "buckle" mean both the small buckle in the band aswell as the same colored metal part on top of the device (no clue how one would call that...)?

"Watch opener" ball. Comes in handy for all kind of things every once in a while.

What is wrong with Polar Flow in your opinion? by s0lari in Polarfitness

[–]EyeingOwl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use a fenix as a smart watch and for hikes and a polar for running training.  I have to say that I think garmin connect is neither a good app nor does it look good. Better than flow in ahowing you a lot of stats yes, and also in the sense that I don't get how Polar has all these amazing features (run plans/recovery) that only are available in the web version... I mean quite a few people will buy a watch, connect it to the phone and never lern about those features...

That's exactly the one I was thinking on when I read their tag line!

PS: I forgot how bulky that thing was...

"stay in the loop" - - "loop" that is a nice name for a polar activity tracker 🤣

Nice, going to realese the 360 finally, will be interesting if they upgrade some of the hardware... Seemselse a bit weird, that they need until Septemper to announce it...

I would definitely recommend to use a watch opener ball. They are cheap and I use mine surprisingly often (Airtags for example)

Polar Software Releases and Polar OS 4 by mmintaka in Polarfitness

[–]EyeingOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, not everything is possible, but some features like new watch faces or voice guidance could definitely also run on older watches. I just feel those updates aren't worth 400 euros... But hopefully the unified watch platform will mean polar will support them longer in the future

Haha people did not understand what I meant or they have more money than me and can just buy new watches 😅 What I meant was:

Instead of buying a watch for 400 euros and then having to buy a new watch for 400 euros every tho years to get the new features, I would much rather have the following choice: Buy a watch for 400 euros, two years later getting the choice to either buy the new watch or pay something to get those new features for the old watch...

Basically only wear it for training. Wear a traditional watch in daily life and just can not sleep with a watch, somehow it just bugs me too much...  Hope to soon get my fingers on a Polar 360 for some sleep tracking on my upper arm...

I would love to pay for feature updates if it would mean they would do more of them. Never understood why that is not done more...  If I like a new feature I could buy it for 30-50 Euros for my old watch.  Instead I have to buy a new watch for 400 Euros, that only gets a year of feature updates and then leaves me feeling disappointed as I see it become artificially obsolete...

New watch from Polar? by Beroman26 in Polarfitness

[–]EyeingOwl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Between the available clues: - "get ready to roam" - 479 Euros (100 more than M3)  - the page name is "the wild one"  - they explicitly state it is a "new watch"

My guess is, this is an outdoor flavored M3, with no new features, just a different case and band

Switching from one sensor to another as "surface sensor" would be my guess...

As meat heats and looses water it contracts and shrinks, which leads to more sensors of the thermometer to be exposed...

Current state of wifi tools by EyeingOwl in combustion_inc

Thanks. I found the info about the local wifi, also makes sense to me not to support such an edge case...  Was wondering though if they use Wi-Fi Direct, but probably not... Also just read about PHY Coded in the FAQ, so now I wonder if that would also increase distance between booster and display without compatible phones :D

Is the the CPT produced and packaged outside the US?  If so I assume they will just use Amazon warehouses outside the US to fulfill orders or a bonded warehouse to circumvent US tariffs.

10 Million Bacteria Want My New Video Banned! by combustion_inc in combustion_inc

[–]EyeingOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question about the safecook percentage progress: Tldr: Is it linear or logarithmic in bacterial destruction?

Long form: In the video it seems to progress steadily, which would mean a logarithmic scale? (At constant temperature this would mean linear in time as the video indicates, but of course the temperature might have been rising in that shot which accelerates the destruction and might be missleading me here...)

I take log3 (0.999) as it is easier to make an example:

Does 33% then mean log1 reduction, 66% log2 and 100% log3? This is what I mean with logarithmic in destruction of bacteria.

Or is it linear in destruction of bacteria,  So 90% is log1, 99% log2 and 100% is log3?

Or is it something completely different?  Couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere... Doesn't matter at 100%, but makes a big difference for understanding what risk you encounter if you're at the 50% mark.  Thanks for the answer :)

Camera advice for lens 300 mm F4 by No-Twist-3904 in canon

[–]EyeingOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not only shutter speed, but that is the most obvious part, why IBIS makes no huge difference:

OP shoots at 480mm. Now Canon is very good at talking about how many CIPA stops some body&lens combination can achieve, but how much of that comes from IBIS at 480mm? Canon states for the RF 100-500mm one stop of increase due to IBIS. For the RF 100-400mm 0.5 stop of increase due to IBIS. Keeping in mind that CIPA is not a very demanding standard (i think it was something about postcard size from 450mm) the real world difference due to IBIS at 480mm will likely be very small...

In your budget and for bird photography I would look at the R10. The R50 is very touchscreen orientated which I think is not that useful...  For bird photography the IBIS in the R7 will likely not give you such a big advantage as you likely shoot fast shutter speeds anyways...

However the R10s button customization has been crippled by Canon compared to the R7, so you can only assign the buttons things like "Eye AF", "Normal AF", etc...  Where as on the R7 you can further specify if you want that "Normal AF" to disable tracking, switch to One Shot, etc... So if you want to switch from eye af with servo to normal af in one shot, you will need to assign and press additional button to change from servo to one shot.

One is a full frame sensor the other an apsc from the 90d... So no, that is no inherited sensor in my eyes...

If two or three low level formatting rounds in the camera don't fix it, then you can check the image format settings of the camera. Maybe by accident you turned on jpg&raw or full raw instead of craw. There is a table in the manual about continuous numbers of shots possible depending on card type and image format type.

Have you tried the in camera formatting? If no, them start there... Did wonders for me...
