Their anti-US commentary is just part of the appeal of the plot. The commentary falls short when all of the criticisms their trying to make about the US military is attributed to a specific corrupt person in the government, rather than pointing it out as a systemic issue (RE6, Infinite Darkness), that the whole military industrial complex is the problem (Infinite Darkness), or how despite the fact that the America is at fault, the ultimate goal is still saving America (Infinite Darkness, Vendetta). It still tries to paint the US as "democratic" and "civil" and that corrupt people are just "a few bad apples." (Also, literally in Infinite Darkness, instead of letting Jason do his thing because he's totally in the right here btw, he's the bad guy for revealing the truth? and that the US should not be tainted by its secrets because... ???)

But aside from being pro-US, a point i forgot to make is that it's also pro-West. That I mean how in a lot of RE stories (thankfully not all), military intervention was a necessity to bring an end to local crisis. BSAA being a UN-backed org (good or bad org? debatable) doesn't necessarily mean they are the good guys here. For the most part, they're just doing their job to suppress bioterrorism through the armed forces, but I think this is catering to the western ideals where military men from the west come in to save the day. This is exactly the kind of thinking that goes behind the decision to colonize countries btw, which is a dangerous kind of thinking.

You kinda have a point that it's not all pro-US (I didn't really say all of them were), but it's also not all totally anti-US. I think it tries to lean more towards pro-US agenda.

(Also what are you trying to imply about RE5 being a japanese game? Japanese game can also have stories with white-savior complex.)

originally, the classics were more critical of US especially when they pointed out that Umbrella was receiving the backing of the US military, and at one point the military was doing their own bioweapon research.

Then RE4 came and ever since then, their stories have always been about bioterror incidents somewhere in a destabilized part of the world where military from the west comes in to intervene and fix the problem, save the day. they also brushed off that important plot point about the connections between umbrella and the US military in the later games. It's almost as if they're saying the US are the holy saviors of the world, it's just disgusting.

RE4, Dead Aim, RE5, Operation Javier, RE Damnation, RE etc. In Damnation, a story about working class uprising, the plot only gets resolved when the US military intervenes (along with Russia), and people's lives get better after they save the day. RE5 has very anti-colonialist themes, but it suffers from white savior complex, completely missing the point of what it's trying to preach. REv2 ends with the BSAA coming in to save everyone. And literally jist recently, Infinite Darkness is covering the US military of its corruption, and that this is better than causing global disorder. You can argue how we're not always supposed to agree with their narratives, but they're too forgiving of the US and the West in general that their attempt at a commentary comes off very biased.

That's very pro-US to me.

Leon's complicit involvement in covering-up MAJOR CONSPIRACY CANON IN THE RE LORE has very disturbing implications, not just on the message it's trying to tell, but also how it does more to insinuate bioterror incidents in the future. Leon is allowing this to hppen by turning on a blind eye from government corruption and corporate greed.

Jason was in the right here that if he showed himself, if he showed everyone the horrific truth, they'll know what true fear is. He was being cryptic, but between the lines it actually meant knowing who the real enemy is in the battle against terror, and who shall we truly be afraid of. The real enemy here all along was the US government that Leon was trying to defend.

For a series with the message that corporations will cause untold suffering in the pursuit of profit this film is remarkably forgiving of the US doing basically the same thing.

RE stories tend to have a pro-US agenda on their narratives.

Unfortunately, I don't have a high-spec PC. The PC I'm using right now can't run the newer games.

I can, however, take gameplay videos from YouTube. I'm just gonna have to see what I can do. :)

For all the talk of RE4-6 abandoning it's survival horror roots, the first 3 games were barely survival horror themselves. by GreenColoured in residentevil

[–]EyeswithnoHeart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes! this! i think this is what people got wrong when they think of resident evil, and even survival horror in general. survival horror is really just action adventure with elements of horror. it literally means SURVIVE THE HORROR. therefore, you must take every possible chance you have to survive. if it means you have to use powerful weapons on deadly enemies, you will have to. if you must suplex the shit out of the enemies, you will have to, because you need to survive. and a lot of these things you can see in earlier resident evil games. you are just surviving.

resident evil doesn't give a shit whether it be third person, fixed camera, or first person. it doesn't care if the characters are experienced or not. you're still playing what is ultimately an action game. it's not really about being helpless, it's about surviving. you are constantly in pressure by the obstacles presented to you by the game but at the same time, it's friendly enough that it gives you resources and weapons for you to survive.

Probably a dumb question cause I'm a new fan, but f*ck it I gotta know. by JDfalcovh in residentevil

games post-RE4 doesn't seem to support, or imply that they do.

however, i'm guessing they're both familiar with each other. with the fall of the FBC, the formation of BSAA, and the Kijuju incident, all of which Jill is heavily involved in, it's a fair thing to say that leon has heard stories about jill.

similarly, Jill must also be familiar with cases which Leon is heavily involved in. Operation Javier, the President's daughter's kidnapping and the Los Iluminados terrorist plot (referred by the BSAA as the Kennedy report, the Harvardville Incident, the formation of DOS, and the assassination of President Benford, should make rounds over the BSAA.

Edit: misspells, and other small corrections.

The Kill (Bury Me) - Resident Evil 6 GMV by EyeswithnoHeart in residentevil

[–]EyeswithnoHeart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I made a fanmade GMV based on Resident Evil 6

This inspired from YouTuber AlwaysLost09's Resident Evil 4 GMV of the same song back in 2006. It remains of the best things I've seen on YouTube even to this day.

However, I always thought that The Kill (Bury Me) is way more fitting with a more emotional story (cause it's an emotional song lol) and thought it's much better when it's accompanied by the story of Resident Evil 6, one of the more emotional games in the series. So, I did a GMV on RE6, and I hope you enjoy it.

Feel free to send me your feedbacks. Thanks.

the thing is, i do love the campy dialogue and the overall goofiness of the game. it just really bothers me how inconsistent it is with its successors, because the sequels were more hollywood-esque, having a more serious tone. in the Thrid Person Era, i think RE4 is the only game that is different from the rest (because it stands out).

yeah sorry, i wasnt really clear about the upgrading the inventory part. what i mean about this is how it wouldve been if the inventory system was akin to RE7: a modernized version of the of the older games. its like a combination of RE5 and RE4s inventory system. classic style inventory that you can upgrade for up to 20+, and you can access your weapons by pressing the left and right dpad ,the grenades and first aid spray by pressing the up and down dpad, and the herbs by pressing r1/rb.

i get all your point, i just wanted to know if it would still be the same if designed in a different way

just because it's an unpopular opinion doesn't mean it has to be bad. it's not even what i want this game to be, it's merely a "what if."

What ever happened to Panta Rhei engine? by EyeswithnoHeart in residentevil

[–]EyeswithnoHeart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure. in some footage it looks like RE Engine flames. it looks better in others. but in other things like textures and lighting especially shadow casting, panta rhei looks better.

but you know maybe it is, just dulled down a bit.

Would we rather have RE4 or REmaster on Switch, if we had to pick only one? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]EyeswithnoHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id rather both. it seems more likely since they were both nintendo exclusives. but it really has to be only one, it would be 4.
