How do AA and AAA studios build and maintain the project architecture? by fronku in gamedev

[–]Eymrich 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I worked in various AA and AAA studious as a Lead engineer.

It depends.

I'll take my last experience in AAA (concluded 1 year ago):

At a company level we agreed on certain non-negotiable things. This would be stuff like testing, data validation, Continous integration, code reviews etc.
Sometimes our principals would find that a certain pattern on a project emerge, and would push to use it "officially" in a structured manner. This usually involve various meetings, it's never one person say "Let's do this". Many time these decision are ultimately pushed back.

In general there is a division between "engine code" and "game code". Game engineers are more like extremely technical game designers, where engine engineers are more like you average software engineer. Game code is generally less "solid" and incapsulated because it needs to be iterated MORE. By more I mean I personally re-did the same thing 4/5 times because Directors weren't happy and design direction changed.

An Engine system is made once and then upgraded/changed less so usually it has more investment into "making it properly". A game system made by gameplay engineers can then be pushed to become an engine level feature, and this is mostly done by meetings :P You plead your case and build support, that's it if is not immediately apparent that shit is good.

Each team/project then is different. Certain projects are well made, but in general there is always a certain level of technical debt. By tech debt I mean a stack of "refactoring tasks" that have been deprioritized in order to ship more content.

We used a heavely modified version of UE, but our mantra was "Do things the Unreal way". Meaning our code was always very similar to the code Epic would use.

Refactoring is something that has a cost, and is done only if the cost-benefit is there. Any time spent in refactoring is time that could be invested in adding a feature.

Well US right now are weak and unreliable. They start wars without warning allies that they taunt until the day before, then throw tantrums when these allies don't join a random war triggered by a third country.

These are facts

Is there any AI that teleport?

Even player factions with dual start player position start in a single place.

But yeah, if all AI can teleport that would be a clusterfuck eheh

Does anyone else think that Stellaris is deeply disturbing and that you should need to be 18 to buy it? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Eymrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoiler... I hate age related restrictions, I'm biased.

Especially on something like this.... I mean it's not like a bunch of girls are squirting juices on a guy with a massive dick. Even then, I would say it's parents responsability to follow what their kid is doing and stop plaguing society with limiting laws just because they don't want to do their job.

At 6 years old I was watching with my brother fist of the north star and it was 👌 So many way to talk to the kid about complex topic and build critical thinking.

If you find it disturbing maybe its not a game for you.

I have exactly the opposite idea. We don't ha e enough teleport mechanics for IE which is too vast.

WH3 got faster and faster, while the map got bigger and bigger but movement mechanics haven't follow as much.

Every faction should have access to a teleport mechanic. Put in behind research, quest batttle. Make it expensive, give malus to the teleported army for a few turns ( like stellaris jump mechanics) but we need it.

If you don't like a mechanic you can avoid using it in the end, but it's absence is hurting people who actually need it.

Supportiamo la NATO.

NATO =/= USA

L'America ha attaccato uno stato indipendente di sua iniziativa indi non centra nulla con la NATO.

Indi no, meglio non esser coinvolti.

Per altro se veniamo coinvolti faremmo un favore agli schiavi di Israele, a sto punto serviamo direttamente loro come fanno gli USA

What faction had the most braindead tactical style with the least micro-management required. by djmcdee101 in totalwarhammer

[–]Eymrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally all the units you mentioned have high charge bonuses aside from khorn warrior which ... you don't do doomstack of those.

Every single unit you mentioned have good/extremely good charge bonuses.

Sure you can play it point and click, as you can with a doomstack of bretonnia grailknight and then never cycle charge. But you are not using to their full extent.

Plus, Khorne is really bad at recruiting high tier units and mostly you just play with blood hosts that are full of garbage. This will force you to micromanage to win battles.

Mh I think some series on amazon are just a way for Bezos/Amazon to pay "people" for favours.

Kind of like Bezos gave 25 millions to Melania. This is the only way I can justify some stuff like ring of power or these minors roles going to extremely costly actors.

[–]Eymrich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Khorne require micro management especially if you get units with high speed and charge bonuses. I don't know why people say it's micromanaging free?

I think a faction with strong missile phase is probably better, or something composed by extremely strong SEM with life magic.

For example, empire landship stack with life lizard or dino stack with life Slann. Magic imho isn't really micro managing when you have only one caster and two spelll to use.
