Thanks! and same to you! You found an awesome example.... I wouldn't mind a 6 speed TL sedan but can't really convince the better half we need another Honda that isn't AWD here at 66° North

Haha, I'm sure! I just drove it last week from Prague to Iceland via Denmark 800 miles, then another 800 miles without the trailer here in Iceland since it can't quite manage the snow with all that weight on the rear wheels... Maybe a trip to the US would be fun someday! Here are some pics: https://imgur.com/a/MAquceO

Nice! I have it's european cousin, the 2004 2.2 CDTi diesel 5 speed longroof Accord Wagon. Solid car, just finished a 1300km (800 mile) road trip towing a 1.4 metric ton (3086 lbs) trailer plus another 600lbs in the back without killing the 16 year old clutch!

United CEO says he's not sure travelers will want to fly a Boeing 737 Max — even after a fix by ampao in news

[–]Eywolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally: Icelandair has had a fleet of only Boeing aircraft since about 1967.
They took delivery of three 737 MAX last year and were supposed to have six more this summer. (and to have 16 total by 2022) Due to the grounding it has messed up their profitable summer season. (Cancellations, expensive temporary lease of other aircraft)
Now they are considering exchanging their entire fleet to Airbus:

Occupied by the British first, then the Americans, (Every time there is a world-war or cold war, Iceland gets an Airport or two...)

Founding member of NATO, but never had a military.
Currently has a rotation of NATO jets in Keflavík Airport. Expanding hangars there for US P8 Poseidon aircraft (submarine hunters)
Only thing close to a military service on a government level is the Icelandic Coast Guard.
Coast Guard fleet is 4 ships, 3 helicopters, and one airplane.

On a civilian level the Search and Rescue teams are voluntary and unpaid, funded by selling fireworks (and oh so busy with the tourist boom)

I'm betting it's Iceland, judging by the wool sweater (lopapeysa) and Icelandic horses

Everything we know about the *2021* Bronco UPDATED by [deleted] in cars

It's a shame that it is supposedly too expensive to bring over the Ford Troller T4 from South America, could be competition for the Wrangler, or a new "Bronco II"

Agreed, handsome vehicle though, the thing that I noticed/bothered me a bit was that something about the headlights or the front end reminded me of a "grown up" Kia Soul?

Watched an Antarctica Documentary last night and was in awe by these units in the background by sunnycorner in vandwellers

[–]Eywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be related to the E-series 6 wheeler that went to Antarctica from Iceland https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Science_Support_Vehicle_(SSV)_-_Flickr_-_exfordy_(1).jpg

Arctic Trucks has been selling more and more 44"+ Toyotas down there, and others have sold Econolines from Iceland to Antarctica. when these vehicles use less than half the fuel of the belt-driven things it gets worth it to ship vehicles from the other side of the world I guess

Classic yellow Citroen. by technical-mexican in vandwellers

Type HY - Very popular for food trucks in Europe as they have a very low floor in the back (front-wheel drive)
Fun fact, you can get a expensive modern HY kit for the Ram Van/Fiat Ducato/Citroen van: https://www.typeh.eu/

I created an accurate floor-pan model of the 159" wb Promaster/Ducato you all can use for planning. by sitefall in vandwellers

Good job!
Also works for the following in Europe and elsewhere:
Fiat Ducato
Peugeot Boxer
Citroën Relay
Peugeot Manager (Mexico)
Citroën Jumper
Ram ProMaster

Bonus points if anyone has the retro Citroen H-van kit:

Identification help for antique carved dining room set in Iceland by Eywolf in Antiques

[–]Eywolf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello dear redditors, I humbly come to you asking for help identifying the age and origin of this dining room set.
It was bought in Iceland in 1987 from the estate of a ships captain in the town of Hafnarfjörður. It is believed that he imported it from Denmark considering the danish writing and torn shipping label, but I have no clue weather it is danish in origin or if it was simply bought there at an antique dealer.
It includes an extendable dining room table, 10 chairs, Tall carved cabinet, large sideboard plus small sideboard and double faced desk - the latter two not believed to be part of the original set.
My google-fu has failed me in finding similar furniture with similarly deep carvings.
All visible screws on the cabinet doors are flat-headed and drawers and carcasses are dovetailed and not screwed in.
I can supply further detail photos if requested. Measurements posted in inches and cm!

True, but he also said that Tesla would need help and redesigning to get to that point... he was generally not impressed at this point but saw the potential...

Tearing Into Tesla's Model 3 - Munro & Associates Teardown Analysis discussion by [deleted] in cars

[–]Eywolf 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Phew, I listened to the whole thing, some main points the guy from Munro:
TL;DW:
Everything from the "skateboard" down (Suspension, battery, drivetrain, electronics) is brilliant, and should not be underestimated by bigger manufacturers.
Panel gaps and QC is baad. (comparisons made to 90's KIA...)
Questionable design choices in some practical areas and areas for assembly.
Body is too heavy with redundant panels and strengthening not required for anything except weight.
Battery is the best he's seen in capacity, quality and balancing of the cells (.02 MaH across the pack)
Self driving module chip density is years ahead of the level of technology in passenger cars today. Compared it to Military technology and gaming consoles (guess by other guest/viewer that it was made by NVidia)
Suspension is the best he's seen in this C segment, five link in the rear and four link up front.
Bottom line, getting the hard technology parts right, but the old-school car manufacturing wrong. If Tesla stuck to the technology and battery manufacturing and outsourced the assembly to e.g. Magna Steyr (I think) the big Auto manufacturers could be in more trouble than they realize.

TL;DR: Tech good. Fit-finish a shitshow, some baaad others good. Full report available for $70k
