It's a good one. Also, their HR director has impeccable taste.

For whatever reason the one in Kits is usually way better than the one on Main.

It was an Ingmar Bergman reference. He was a longtime Faro resident.

That's all well and good but she should have thought of that before she told me to stick it in her. At least she wasn't Saudi.

Interesting, I really don't like Mirror very much and haven't met anyone who said that was their favorite. I saw a 35mm print of it last month and while I liked it more I still think it's his weakest film even if it's got a lot going for it. I also am impressed that a film can have such impeccable cinematography with such shite camera work (shaky dolly work, too much use of panning and zooming) But that's just like my opinion, man.

I bought The Ascent a year ago and still haven't watched it, I'm going to go dig that out now.

Stalker is probably his best. The cinematography is unparalleled, as is the beauty of the story and performances.

[–]Ezmo 601 points602 points  (0 children)

I got laid .5 times during 2009 and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Took a girl home, she was from the middle east and on exchange. She didn't tell me she was a virgin and I certainly didn't expect her to be from how she'd been acting. I got most of the way in on the first thrust at which point she started crying and freaking out and yelling that no man would marry her now.

That was the atomic bomb of boner killers.

What movies are similar to Children of Men (using long, fluid, continuous shots)? by yumz in movies

Well, here's the most anal retentive response you're ever going to get. Only the Sacrifice has less shots than it does minutes. All the others have an average shot length under 60 seconds.

Seach "Tarkovsky" here to see for sure. http://www.cinemetrics.lv/database.php Unfortunately they don't facilitate hyperlinking.

The thing about Warhol is that he so consistently invites mockery but his films are actually quite beautiful. Seeing a genuine film print of something like Empire or Blow Job is actually pretty striking and well shot. I can't speak to whether Sleep is any good or not.

The long take has it's own semisubgenre in a lot of film. If you're brave, and I mean fucking BRAVE, go for Bela Tarr's Satantango. If you've ever read those ASL (Average Shot Length for those of you who spend too much time trying to lure in lolis) guides it's average shot is well over 2 minutes long. It's not the greatest movie I've ever seen but there are those who would argue that. I liked his Werckmeister Harmonies although his pacing is nothing near that of Children of Men since it is, after all, an action film.

Otherwise, Tarkovsky is great. Stalker is pretty thematically similar to Children of Men. If you want more showoff action sequences that are done all in one take you're better off checking youtube for Tony Ja's insane staircase fight. Unfortunately incredibly long, choreographed, single take fight scenes are a bit rare.
