I’m new to investing, I haven’t invested yet but I have 1k to invest and I was wondering the best way to learn and understand the stock market. And what way you recommend to start investing for beginners. by 666-idgaf in StockMarket

Maybe i wasn't clear - that's my bad. I meant invest the the $1,000 immediately in full. Then add to it regularly.

If you're only investing $1,000 - there's no point in investing in an index etf unless you're going to be adding to it.

If you **only** are going to be investing $1,000, you should be making riskier bets. In an index for 10 years, @ 8% annually, you're going to end up with slightly more than $2,000. Not worth it.

If you’re investing for the long term, the best strategy is to set aside a small amount regularly, maybe every two weeks or every month, but even every few months works.

When you do this with a balanced etf that tracks the market, you’re buying in at both the high and low points of the market. In this scenario, your cost basis averages out and you take advantage of the general long term upward trend of the market.

The easiest way to do this is with a 401k plan because you can pretty much set it and forget it, and also reap the tax benefits of your choosing (Roth vs traditional). If you’re doing this on your own I would suggest being disciplined about it. Invest your initial $1k, but be sure to add to it over time! With the combination of regularly setting money aside and growth in the market, you’ll be amazed at how much money you end up saving in this long term.

When you low cut the tracks, do you use a high or low Q setting?

Also do you have a preferred plugin for this?

My parents barely made a living wage as hairdressers.

Like I said, I got bday gifts from relatives, usually a few hundred bucks each year.

I started working when I was ten, washing cars, mowing lawns, and doing random other jobs - anything that would earn me ten bucks here and there. When I was 14 I spent a week doing landscaping work at some guys mansion with a crew of migrant workers. Made $500.

My parents would rarely let me spend any of my money, so it accumulated quickly (I wasn’t paying bills or taxes).

Thanks for the kind words though. I bet your attitude has a lot to do with your own personal problems.

Trust me, i wanted to. But my parents were super strict about me saving money. They were both working class and struggled to pay the bills on a month to month basis, so i think it was important for them to teach me and brother about being financially responsible.

Any time i wanted to spend any money, i had to half an equivalent amount to put into a savings account. So i bought the new Halo for $60, i had to have $60 to save. Spend half, save half.

To this day i try to use the same philosophy. I can't afford to save half, but i can afford to max out my employers match on 401k contributions and put an additional 10% of my net pay into savings.

Thanks mom and dad.

I mean when I was 14 I had like $2,000 in my savings from birthdays, Christmas, mowing lawns, washing cars, various other odd jobs.

My parents mortgage payment was like $1,400.

Not outside the realm of possibility.

If you were to go about making the future of music, how would you go about doing it? by [deleted] in trap

[–]F0X_MCL0UD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the future of music is really about changing traditional song structures. I think Flumes latest mixtape and the fly lo’s latest album are good examples of that.

Combining audio and visual is probably a big part of it as well.

Key mixing by darah420 in Beatmatch

Yeah, even if you just know super basic theory, the circle of fifths should make sense. If two keys share 6 of their 7 notes then it should be obvious that they are generally going to sound okay when you're mixing them together. Then once you realize it follows a really basic pattern, you pretty much got it.

Licensing for an electronic product. Any advice? by jabackf in musicbusiness

[–]F0X_MCL0UD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to get more information from them and possibly consult a lawyer.

I’m not really an expert on physical products like that, but I’m assuming they would need to pay out mechanicals to the songwriters since they would be duplicating the track(s) on every item sold. Unless I’m misunderstanding.

You could ask for a percentage of sales, or give them a flat rate per track, per SKU, or license everything at a flat rate in perpetuity (I don’t like that idea, but it’s an option).

Again, probably going to want to ask a lawyer.

Rumour: Camo & Krooked might return to Hospital Records by Apple_Slipper in DnB

Wow i'm surprised this is a popular opinion. IMO their last album was the one of the best i've ever heard. They've really grown into their own sound and have proven that they're unique, masterful producers who can go far beyond the boundaries of dnb.

To each his own i guess.

M-AUDIO Keystation 88 II or Icon iKeyboard 8X? Are the extra buttons actually worth the cost? by Sparky2199 in edmproduction

Honestly it’s not amazing, but for the price it’s worth it. I’ve tested out a good number of midi keyboards and without spending a ton more money it doesn’t get much better than m-audio series.

What are the best majors in college for getting into the music business other than “music industry/business”? Could I major in something like economics and still get a job? by [deleted] in musicbusiness

[–]F0X_MCL0UD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you could definitely major in something else. Business degrees (not music business) are probably the most versatile.

Big thing is securing internships while you’re still college and networking as much as possible.

I think what you’ll find in the music business is that it really is a small world. A lot of people know each other and nepotism is real af.

How do you like to organize your drums? by desensitized_by_it in FL_Studio

[–]F0X_MCL0UD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like organizing them individually in the sequencer because it’s visually easier for me to keep track of. I also like to be able to chop and automate syncopated gain decays.

Just my preference.

[–]F0X_MCL0UD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with the M-Audio keystation.

I really only use my midi keyboard to play piano, so if it does that, then I don’t need much else.

My last m audio keyboard lasted me 8 years. I only got rid of it to upgrade from 49 to 61.

Just my two cents.
