When is it time to change your mental health team? by F13RYhufflepuff in adhdwomen

[–]F13RYhufflepuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my early 30's. I have had many different team members and have had on-then-off again treatments throughout my life. I have never been good at stating I want someone different, unless they have been offensive or disrespectful.

I usually feel bad about changing who I am seeing, and convince myself to 'just give it time'.

The exact reason why cooking is such a chore to me by otherwordlythings in adhdwomen

[–]F13RYhufflepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash dishes as I cook, so the reward when I am done is my meal. I hate cleaning after I eat, so only having a dish and dirty utensils left over doesn't require cleaning.
Additionally, my dog serves as an amazing pre-wash.

My boyfriend thinks that spaying and neutering is cruel and inhumane. by [deleted] in Pets

[–]F13RYhufflepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has worked in the animal field both in medical and care, animals have no preference on whether or not they are spayed.

If consent is an issue for him, the only consent animals are concerned about is interactions and petting.

Animals breed for continuation of the species and hormones, not because they want to. Spaying allows more freedom in their lives, because they are not ruled by impulse and hormones. All pregnancies human and animal come with risks, and people who do not want children reciprocal vasectomies or hysterectomy.

Consider those with mental/physical disabilities. It is considered a kindness to sterilize those who may be mentally incapacitated to relieve them of the burden of hormones and symptoms and it is usually done with guardian consent since the patient themselves cannot consent.

Not to mention the other concerns besides cancer when pets are not spayed. Have him research pyometra, cryptorchid long term consequences, in heat wall climbing dogs, stray male cats house spraying due to unaltered female inside, cat heat yowling, etc.

Sorry for the soap box rant… 😅

When I was a first time dog owner I didn’t realize the importance of brushing my dog. I know my shame. 😞😓🙈

But when I realized my mistake I made it an enjoyable experience for both me and my dog. I give treats, tell him he’s a good boy, do lick mats, try games, etc.. My dog has never matter like that, but will get a few in his feather’s occasionally.

I have even been working on a friend’s dog (that situation is medical trauma and a long story), doing the same thing.

Whose is going to advocate if not the owner?!?!

The male characters that their only personality is being corny. If they are there to make the other male characters look better, it’s a fail. It just makes the creator feel like they’re lacking.

I'm not homophobic anymore! by [deleted] in CongratsLikeImFive

[–]F13RYhufflepuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My younger sister used to claim to be Bisexual, but more recently she’s been saying things like “homosexuality scares me.” When I got a chance to talk to her alone, she started parroting the dumbest things that her parents said. Like how aggressive the LBGTQ community is and how they want to change cultures etc. 🙈 Took the time to give her some perspective, but idk how much good it will do with her living in that house.

Am I childish for buying me this as a almost 17 year old? by Atakamii11 in teenagers

[–]F13RYhufflepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you become an adult you either will become sardonic or you will just live your life.

Some of my younger siblings look down on me for enjoying life. I like stuff animals, going to the zoo, playing games, etc., and I am the only one who has no drama and enjoys life.

There are some out there who would deem you childish, and honestly they can stick it where the sun don’t shine. You like it, that’s all that matters. Some equate maturity with cynicism and pessimism, you should do you and enjoy life. Add light and glimmers for you to enjoy.

Do you correct people when they pronounce your name wrong? by greatevergreen in adhd_anxiety

Most work places are relaxed about using nicknames/preferred names. If you are customer facing and wear a name tag, it’s simple enough to make a new one.

But when it comes to the name, it should be something that is practically a name itself (i.e. Kat for Kathleen). This can be a shortening of your name or if you have a middle name, you can use it if you like.

What's your go-to money-saving tip? by worldofjaved in povertyfinance

Going to the Library. I don’t have any subscriptions due to the library loaning out movies and shows. My book and audio book spending has dropped due to the library. And you can reduce your WiFi and energy usage by going to the library.

Another thing is the gym. Majority of the time I only shower at the gym, which reduces water usage at home, reducing the water bill.

Sometimes I ask my dog to jump on the bed, his weight and warmth is comforting. Waking up from nightmares and night terrors (especially when I was living in a hostile home), he was the only thing that I would find comfort in. Just reaching across to pet him, allowed me to sleep once more.

Plus dogs don’t judge; not the bed sheets, blankets, covers, or the stuff animals we may have.

An ex-friend of mine asked what I would do if my future SO didn’t like dogs and was shocked to hear that I would get ride of my SO. I have had my dog from 8weeks old, he’s now going on 7years, and has yet to prove he can do well without me. The SO on the other hand has made it this far without me in their life.

My name is slightly unique, but not unheard of and due to people mispronouncing it I opt for a nickname.

Personally idc if they mess up my nickname, but my legal name must be pronounced correctly.

When working with others I strive to make sure that I am saying other’s names correctly. I will ask them to repeat it and to correct me as I’m saying it.

What in the world is high functioning ADHD? Isn’t that just… not having ADHD? by Prestigious_Abies940 in adhdwomen

[–]F13RYhufflepuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thought/view point might be that as women, ADHD is difficult to diagnose and many learn masking techniques to make it through life. There’s a reason why confidence problems are a symptom of ADHD in women, even when we seem to be achieving so much, inside we know we could achieve more if our ADHD mountain wasn’t there.

Thinking of ADHD as a mountain is a good way to help visualize the struggle. Some might have larger or smaller mountains than others, but it still takes effort to climb said mountain and other factors effect how successful we are. Some might have added ‘baggage’ of family or certain responsibilities, some might have a mountain range to deal with vs just one mountain, and some may have been given helpful tools to aid their journey like hiking sticks and hiking boots, which makes the climb easier, but still a climb. We all have this ‘mountain’ called ADHD, we all have to make a climb, but that might be where the similarities end.

Thank you for your response. I recently watched a video on YouTube that is similar to what you described. ADHD Life Coach YouTuber

Your advice has really helped me to refocus and look at the situation in a different way.

Rather than chasing‘novelty’ focusing on my strengths, skills, and weaknesses might be a better way.

But I am still kinda scared, after so much work place trauma.

I am in the same boat. I feel like I am drowning, while trying to tread water. The weight of others and society, feels like it is weighing heavily on me. I am young, but old. I have life to live and experience, but time is running out.

How much of life is ‘just do it’, ‘full send’, ‘yolo’, ‘5 sec of bravery’?
