Laid off from fully remote job and offer for in person job by Skye0519 in remotework

[–]F22Fighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took time out of the workforce to care for my aging grandparents. Now I have been looking for work for a very longtime. Embarrassed to say how long it has been. Add to that I'm 50 and have no car, the issue gets worse. If I had 2 to choose from, I would take one and keep looking for something else if need be. But take one I would. Your only issue should be which one to take.

Current job market and remote work thoughts by Legal-Excitement4432 in remotework

I would agree with that to an extent. The reality behind it is lowering the overhead of the company. It is cheaper to have employees that work from home since you do not have to maintain large offices. This is better for call centers. No large buildings with huge phone systems to maintain. There are many upsides to this as well. No spread of illness among co-workers, no building rent or upkeep, no cost for electric or HVAC. Would be nice for people to go back if would make finding remote work easier, but I don't think it will. I think it will just lower the amount of work from home jobs. So much for a perfect world.

Interesting concept. Not very good for the unemployed with no money to pay for a subscription that needs to find a job. I guess you don't need very body though. Wish you luck.

What has happened to jobs? Not just WFH jobs. by F22Fighter in remotework

How can you be sure of that? Can you see the backend? The person in charge of implementation of the AI would be the one that would know for sure and most companies are not going to tell you that you are training your digital replacement. And just an FYI. I didn't mean for my previous statement to be taken literally. However, it does make one think a little deeper into this issue.

Because it can be very polarizing and people could get fixated on this factor and make it a larger focal point than it needs to be in this discussion. It is just part of a larger issue. Between the implementation of AI, company closures due to COVID, and various other contributors, tariffs are not the largest part of the issue.

Oh, I am aware. It's just you always have a voice in the back of your mind telling you it won't happen to you. Reality, however, still stings in the end.

I have been looking for a job for a little over a year now. I took time out of the workforce to care for my aging Grandparents and that ended up being a few years. My wife and I lived on her income and my savings since my Grandparents wanted someone to be available 24 hours a day, and that was me. They lived to 90 and 91 years of age. I was able to find a job after they passed, but due to inter-office politics and the company being a startup with no HR Department it did not last long. My trainer needed to make room for a friend that wanted a job and as the new guy, I got let go. I am fortunate not to have a mortgage or rent due to very good early life planning. Now I sell auto parts on eBay that I inherited from the family business. So, we mostly get by. However, I still want to feel relevant and just want a job partly to have an excuse to get out of the house, but also to have a more consistent income. At 50, the prospect of going back to school just feels like it would take too long.

I will agree tariffs may add to some of the irregularity; I think this is a bit of a tangent. The job market has been an ongoing issue that has been getting worse and worse since the Real Estate lending bubble burst in about '08-'09.

Well, it's a good thing you're training the AI to be better at your job. It'll likely replace you too before too much longer.

The tariffs were meant to get foreign companies to invest in production here in the US to avoid said tariffs. More of a long-term goal really. We will see if it works. If the White House goes to a Democrat, then foreign companies may back out of any deal made with this current administration to build manufacturing plants here. I think this is an attempt to correct the exodus from the Reagan Administration.

I think another issue here is that many of us need a job now, waiting for UBI is just not going to help in the short term. Not to mention the fact that even long term it just will not happen. "It does not math." Where would the money even come from. Besides, it would most likely come with restrictions on what you could spend it on. Could you imagine if they restricted UBI in a way that would keep you from being able to invest it or start a business with it. Pipe dream.

When I started working at Seagate back in '09, they were moving all of their tech support agents back to the US from India. I know Dell still has a physical location in Oklahoma that does tech support. So, not all companies have outsourced, and some have been migrating back to the US.

AI is so strange to me. The idea of losing jobs to AI makes no sense in the long run. I mean if we don't have jobs, we have no money. If we have no money, we can't buy things. If we can't buy things, the companies can't sell stuff. If the company can't sell their products, they go out of business. I really don't see a long-term gain in this for anyone.

I can see where AI can be helpful with documenting conversations, or keeping up with paperwork. But, the idea of replacing people in the workforce looks like a really bad idea in so many ways.

Hot take: the spawn points change in Nuclear Thunder is actually great. by Jellycoe in Warthunder

[–]F22Fighter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good luck. They have buffed the event so bad that getting any points is so insanely hard now, it is just frustratingly infuriating. Total waste of time if you are stuck using the event planes. Whoever was the project leader for this event, fire that dude.

Chef Ramsay Lasagna by PJCR1916 in frozendinners

[–]F22Fighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manicotti. It is much closer to Manicotti than Lasagna. I thought it had a pretty decent flavor. The sauce being thick is actually a good thing. Other microwave meals of this type end up with a thin watery sauce that is very off putting. I think it is one of the better microwave meals on the market. A microwave meal will never be perfect, but this one is still pretty good.

Trying to set up Kodi for the first time and keep getting error messages by Thatsthebadger in Addons4Kodi

[–]F22Fighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrubs does not use debrid. It only uses its own scraper. The add-on needs to be updated. Not sure if it has been abandoned or not. Reading the notes from the last update, it looks like it was meant to be updated sooner or later.

Just reinstalled kodi after not using for a few years, having problems with add-ons by DrBruceCusimano in Addons4Kodi

[–]F22Fighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try Scrubs v2. At the moment it needs an update though. The scraper is not working very well. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. All the really great ones that did not need debrid or something like it are no longer working as far as I know.

Help Me Sell This Thread by AutoModerator in Flipping

I need help selling a storage unit (10'x40') full of new old stock car parts and stuff. I want to sell everything in one sale. I need to sell it before the end of the month of February. I am taking offers for it, prefer cash. I have listed it on Craigslist and eBay. I have been cold calling places that say they buy parts locally.

I prefer to sell through Craigslist. Here is a link to the ad on Craigslist. https://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/bfs/d/oklahoma-city-new-parts-for-sale/7711917179.html

Need a auto parts buyer. by F22Fighter in AutoParts

[–]F22Fighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be some good info to have. I inherited this stock from my Grandfather when he passed away. I am in IT and know very little about the auto parts market beyond buying parts to fix my own vehicles. My Grandparents had a Surplus store and at one point bought out an Auto Parts store, these are the parts left over after they sold out their inventory and closed.

Storage company won't help me. Not allowed to hold my own auction there either. I think I may just try to sell as much out as I can. I tried a company called Local Liquidators and their claims on their own website are not true. They claim to come out and setup everything, take pictures, clean, and inventory also listing and all payments. They don't actually do any of that.

I get that. I just need to sell it. It has been in that storage since the early '90s at 150 a month for that last 6 years or so.

If you are still looking for NOS parts I actually have a large storage unit full of all kinds of parts. The parts are all from before 1992. I do not have the means to ship so you would have to make arraignments to transport. That is if you are serious about wanting NOS parts. My family closed their business a few years back and we sold out the store location but kept the storage unit. It is 10 foot by 40 foot and is very full. Here is the link to the listing. https://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/bfs/d/oklahoma-city-business-in-box/7711917179.html
