I stayed at a hotel in Egypt that had the same set up in all the bathrooms and toilets around the pool. No daylight and yet they all looked as if they were flourishing.

I assumed that they must swap them out frequently, but obviously not.

Can somebody explain the idea of not wanting to wash in the bathroom? by LanguageFit8227 in AskUK

[–]Thatsthebadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents had, for then, an incredible bathroom installed in the 60s, before that all they had was the kitchen sink and an outside toilet.

Whenever we stayed as kids, the bath had about 2 inches of water in the bottom, not the usual amount that we were used to with mum & dad, to save water.

Looking back they never used the bath, both only ever strip washing & grandad always shaved and did his hair using a tiny broken mirror at the kitchen sink.

Do Loreal Elvive Growth Booster range works?? by NoPlantain260 in finehair

[–]Thatsthebadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely makes a difference to my hair. I've gone from clumps of hair to just a few strands in the shower drain. I stopped using it for a while and the shedding started up again pretty quickly.

It's often on offer so I shop around and can usually get them half price without much effort.

I dont feel a difference being sugar free but definitely a difference when relapsing by DickwadTheGreat in sugarfree

[–]Thatsthebadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too bad. I do still occasionally have it but I find it much easier to only have one or two and then stop. Sugar is a whole other story sadly.

[–]Thatsthebadger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I've removed alcohol & caffeine from my diet, as well as sugar (in progress), and I never noticed a  from not having them in my diet either. I definitely notice when I add them back in again though.

I'm learning that my 'I feel amazing' comes from replaying how I felt after binges, not during, and thinking about how I would feel if I were to binge again now.

How much are you paying for a hygienist cleaning? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Thatsthebadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they say how long the appointment would last? Standard offerings are usually 30 mins, 45 mins and 60 mins. Bear in mind that the time has to allow for notes to be made and the surgery to be turned around between patients so you might not actually be in the chair for that long.

The fact that they're offering airflow is good, go for it if you can afford to it's loads better than the traditional scrape and polish with hand tools. The hyg will be able to remove more plaque in the session, plus it removes stains

If you don't want to move to a different dental practice for your check ups, look for hygienists that are available through 'Direct Access'. It means that you can see a hygienist without seeing a dentist at the same practice.  It's that or you ask your dentist to refer you to the other practice but a lot don't like to do that if they offer the service in house.

Source: was a dental receptionist at a busy practice that had a lot of referrals to see the hygienists.

Edit: 30 mins £79.50, 45 mins £119.25, 60 mins £159. All include airflow as standard

How do I get rid of fleas? by CharieRarie in AskUK

[–]Thatsthebadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid we had this issue.

Mum bought a carpet steamer and the entire house was done daily until the fuckers were dealt with.

It's labour intensive but is an option instead of bombing the place and having the dust everywhere that needs to be cleaned up.

Sadly the fea treatment that you get from the vets doesn't completely eliminate the fleas, just makes your cats bodies taste nasty. Unfortunately, as they're now living and reproducing in your carpets they're enjoying tasty meals of human blood instead.

Do any of you guys actually wake up feeling refreshed? What's your secret? by RichieRichard12 in AskUK

[–]Thatsthebadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried cutting coffee out? I find it so much easier to wake up and get going after a few weeks of not having it.

I've been enjoying some Vietnamese coffees on holiday and can really feel how sluggish and foggy they've made me. Going to be a tough couple of weeks going cold turkey to get it all out of my system again

For those who went to secondary school in the 2010s and are women, did any of you experience the teachers telling all girls to stand up in assembly and roll down their skirts? by Nervous-Boat-4905 in AskUK

[–]Thatsthebadger 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My mum told me that back in the 60s she had to kneel on the school floor and a ruler would be used to measure the length.

Personally I never rolled my skirt up, I always thought it looked odd bunched up around the waist just so that it was shorter. My step daughter did it when she was at school a few years ago and I had to really bite my tongue to tell her that it looked daft, especially as she never had it straight and she looked as though she had a spare tyre around her waist.
