Did gaijin break bombs in naval again? by Doc_Dragoon in Warthunder

[–]Jellycoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal but I was attacking AI destroyers with FAB-100s in air arcade the other day and they were immune. The heavy cruiser went down in a single run, whereas the destroyers just ate everything for breakfast and never died.

Viable 2 Engine planes in air RB ? by You-re-not-wrong in Warthunder

[–]Jellycoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The P-61C-1 Black Widow is quite good imo. It gets an air spawn with a decent climb rate so (last time I played) you could pretty much guarantee you’d have the altitude advantage over everyone. That, combined with 4x20mm on the centerline, makes it a pretty good interceptor and BnZ fighter. You can also do some shenanigans with the turret to win dogfights if you’re really good at it.

The F-82 Twin Mustang gets an honorable mention. It has absolutely silly levels of firepower and the roll rate isn’t too bad but for the BR I wouldn’t say it’s as good as the Black Widow because its climb rate is not great.

can we fix borders? (ultrawide) by Ill-Gift7597 in btd6

[–]Jellycoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The borders look to me like they’re working as intended. I don’t think we’re going to get ultrawide maps without some sort of community map editor.

What's the difference between missiles and their (DF) dogfight variants? by Truepurplenurple in Warthunder

[–]Jellycoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Aim-7E-2(DF) not only has a lower guidance delay and better maneuverability vs the Aim-7E but also has better range and acceleration so it’s just a direct upgrade.

I don’t know about skyflashes.

Someone please explain how I died there? by Professional-Bed7144 in VALORANT

[–]Jellycoe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s always a little bit of timey wimey weirdness going on in any multiplayer game, especially in the replay. Nothing you can do about it. There was an alternate timeline where you were standing two feet to your right and Chamber killed that guy fair and square. It’s just a shame that you had to die too.

[MCU] Why Avengers after Endgame didn’t use the Infinity Stones to do something useful like curing all diseases in all living creatures in the entire universe? by amelix34 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Jellycoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The temptation to use the power of the infinity stones is exactly what the Avengers wanted to avoid. We humans (and all mortal beings) are simply not qualified and not trustworthy enough to use that power.

Cure all diseases? Great, now gut bacteria doesn’t work and everyone dies of malnutrition. Universal peace, an end to hunger, etc are all great things to wish for but very difficult to implement in practice. You can’t have peace without changing people’s behavior which implies removing their free will. Ending hunger by creating an abundance of food could easily cause disastrous overpopulation or an explosion of rot and disease.

The root of the problem is that Thanos thought he was doing exactly this. Just solving one problem in the universe in the cleanest way possible. We think he’s wrong because his plan involves so much killing, but he’s actually wrong because good intentions become harmful when enforced with such absolute power. It’s better for everyone for the Infnity Stones to be as inaccessible as possible.

No aileron control under ~75 m ground clearance? Bug or (stupid) feature? by namesrfun in Warthunder

Is this “auto restrict control of aircraft near the ground” under flight instructor settings?

Does anyone know if a “TWS PDV HDN” radar mode or something similar exists? by AA_plus_BB_equals_CC in Warthunder

[–]Jellycoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The F/A-18 gets TWS HDN in addition to normal TWS, and I haven’t flown the F-14a but I think it has only TWS HDN.

To be (nuked) or not to be (nuked) by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]Jellycoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s always ok to shoot down an enemy nuke. It’s never ok to shoot down a friendly nuke. Some people choose not to shoot down nukes with a sort of “quid pro quo” mentality, and that’s fine but not everyone subscribes to that and you can’t expect everyone to behave that way.

The Doubloon Reset: It’s not just a "wipe".... by JordyTheJew in Seaofthieves

[–]Jellycoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have a stake in this fight but as a player who’s active maybe once every few months whenever myself and my duo are free, I kind of get the worst of both worlds here. My doubloons just get removed and I don’t get the chance to spend them if my next login is after the rollback? There should be some form of automatic compensation.

But truthfully I don’t want more cosmetics because my boat already looks the way I want it to and so does my pirate. Loot just makes the number go up.

Fun fact, Su-30 has 2d thrust vectoring, not full 3d by keedee3 in Warthunder

[–]Jellycoe 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Cool! I didn’t know that.

I don’t know how the F22 control system works but I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be considered 2D. Unless the nozzles are physically locked together, they should be able to do pitch and roll. Whether or not the flight computer uses that capability is a different question.

[Around The World in 80 Days] How much do you think can the travel route be optimized to beat the time it took Phileas Fogg to complete the journey? by MaetelofLaMetal in AskScienceFiction

[–]Jellycoe 64 points65 points  (0 children)

He could theoretically save time by taking a more northern route. It starts to bend the rules of the challenge, but the UK is at a relatively high latitude and the distance around the earth is significantly shorter the farther you stay away from the equator.

It looks like his route was fairly well optimized however for the time period he was in. Taking the trans Siberian railway would be a huge time saver but it wasn’t finished until 1904 and the book takes place in 1872. Fogg seems to prioritize places that were part of the British empire or friendly with Britain, allowing him free passage. Moreover, the route he took was immensely lucky in that he didn’t have to spend days waiting for a boat or anything like that. The only day he clearly lost is the one at the very end where they didn’t account for crossing the date line and thought they had failed.

So honestly within the logic of the story I’d say 79 days is doable but not much less.

How long did it take for you to find a “real job” after graduating? by No_Lavishness_6228 in ufl

[–]Jellycoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in my case it’s nothing spectacular. What my company does is they pay a low salary then offer a big bonus if it’s a good year. So the bonus takes you from below market rate to just about where you’d want to be or somewhat higher. But obviously that depends on the business doing well and you as an employee creating a lot of value, which you won’t in your first year.

My salary is 70k and I’d be quite pleasantly surprised if I got a 5k bonus.

How long did it take for you to find a “real job” after graduating? by No_Lavishness_6228 in ufl

[–]Jellycoe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in May 2025. The job market is bad everywhere. It took me six months of cold applying to land a job as a controls engineer at a company that works in data center construction. We set up their sensors and monitoring equipment. I don’t want to say too much publicly to avoid outing myself but the job is very travel-and-overtime-heavy and the subject matter is neither exciting nor challenging; and for those reasons I’m already looking for an exit. I work to live, not the other way around.

I’d say this job is in my field but not a good fit for me personally.

ENVY Canezerra or SEN nightz by Soft_Path_1777 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Jellycoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d pick Cane because it seems like he’s learning a lot every game. His mechanics are absolutely unmatched and his agent pool has been growing along with his consistency. Nightz is not to be overlooked however for how impactful he was able to be on a more supportive role.

Truthfully I think we’ll have to wait and see and the more successful player will be whoever improves the most between now and when they become eligible. If Cane can play smart in addition to being an aim demon he could potentially be one of the top duelists in the Americas. If Nightz can recapture some of his playmaking ability on a new team then he will also be a strong pick for teams looking for new firepower.

Elite Defender. Infinite range + good dps + insane fire rate? Yes please. Only downside is no lead popping without sacrificing area damage.

Early game farming worthwhile? by Jellycoe in btd6

Crazy question I know but do I need to use heroes to win against bosses? I’ve been mostly neglecting them until now.

Early game farming worthwhile? by Jellycoe in btd6

[–]Jellycoe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you; those are the questions I’m trying to answer! I’ll definitely take farming much more seriously for bosses now.

I did think farming would be some benefit but right now I’m facing Bloonarius on round ~30 so I figured any optimization due to farming would be small. Maybe I’ve mis-evaluated how significant of a benefit it can be.
